Chapter 9 Play Your Role as Mrs. Turner Properly

  • Violet's complexion immediately flushed beet red with an almost audible 'whoosh'! Her heart hammered wildly, practically threatening to jump out of her chest.
  • She hastily turned her face away, not daring to look at him again.
  • "The food is delicious." Henry's head was lowered. While he ate the noodles she made for him, he probed at her lightly. "The butler mentioned that you had something to discuss with me."
  • It was only after hearing his inquiry that she remembered—she had wanted to have a serious discussion with him.
  • "Henry." She raised her head and stared at him seriously. "Before our marriage, I was unaware that you were the father of twin boys."
  • He raised his eyebrows at her words. "Before our marriage, I, too, was unaware that you would steal my liquor because of your ex-boyfriend."
  • His answer rendered her speechless.
  • Nevertheless, she recalled the dream she had last night. In the dream, she was in the bathtub when she and this man had...
  • No! That might not have been a dream!
  • She bit her lip anxiously. "I was wrong for secretly drinking your wine, but didn't you do something absolutely outrageous to me after that? So, we'll call it even!"
  • He raised his head and stared at her with a profound gaze that made his eyes seem bottomless. "Do you seriously believe that sharing a bath with me is worth 5.48 million?"
  • Crash! The phone in her hand clattered noisily to the ground.
  • Those bottles of particularly foul-tasting wines that I drank last night are worth 5.48 million? The realization made her complexion turn completely ashen. A long while passed before she laughed awkwardly. "Those wines..."
  • "Were limited-edition wines." His voice was stony. "Ordinary people would never have gotten their hands on them."
  • His statement left her mute. Nevertheless, she tried to argue her case, "Even if those wines are costly, you and I... Last night... We didn't just stop at something as innocuous as sharing a bath!"
  • He quietly raised his eyebrows at her again. Then, he placed his cutlery aside and spoke with a small teasing smile. "In that case, why don't you tell me what exactly you and I did last night?"
  • When she recalled his actions the night before... Her face instantly turned bright red again.
  • She stood up with faltering steps. "In any case, you went overboard!"
  • "What did I do that was 'overboard'?"
  • His eyes seemed to contain a bewitching power. Every inch of her skin that was touched by his gaze felt hot and prickly.
  • "Which part of last night do you remember? Hmm?"
  • His soft voice sounded very mesmerizing. She didn't dare to look him in the face again, so she hurriedly turned away from him. Her throat had tightened to the point where she could barely squeeze out a single word.
  • "If my memory serves me right, we got married yesterday." The man's voice coming from behind her was low and hoarse, "What I did to you was completely legal."
  • Her face burned incredibly hot.
  • Quite some time passed before she found her voice again, "W-What do you w-want from m-me? I don't have 5.48 million."
  • Rather, she only had 548 dollars to her name.
  • "Play your role as Mrs. Turner properly." His voice was light and undemanding. "Be a good mother to Danny and David."
  • She bit her bottom lip. "But... I don't think I am mature enough, and I don't know how to take care of others either. I'm afraid that I might not do a good job taking care of them."
  • That was the reason why she had insisted on having a talk with him tonight.
  • "It doesn't matter. They are mature enough to take good care of you."
  • She fell silent at his words.
  • "Of course, if it bothers you so..." He stared at her slender back. The image of her seductive and curvaceous figure lying in the bathtub last night appeared in his mind. A trace of an alluring huskiness entered his deep voice, "You can always pay me back with your body."
  • My body... Her face immediately turned as red as a baboon's buttocks. Finally, she couldn't take it any longer, so she fled upstairs in a panic, ran into the room, and locked the door behind her!
  • The words he murmured earlier echoed in her ears, "We got married yesterday... What I did to you was completely legal."
  • All of a sudden, the sound of a man's strong and heavy footsteps came from the corridor outside. The footsteps seemed to be heading directly toward her room.
  • Violet bit her lower lip hard, her heart hammering wildly in her chest. The memory of how Henry had used his fingers to make her moan and whimper in the bathtub last night was fresh in her mind.
  • It looks like part of the rumors were false, but some are true too! He definitely toyed with his two previous fiancées to death!
  • She shut her eyes tightly in fear when she heard the sound of footsteps. Her complexion was stark white.
  • The man from five years ago had traumatized her so badly that she now instinctively rejected the intimacy between men and women. That was the reason why she had never even kissed Brock before, even though they had been in a relationship for so many years.
  • Brock had accused her of being mentally ill. Not only had he been reluctant to pay for her to visit a doctor, but he had always demanded that she overcome her mental trauma by herself. However, she simply could not get over it...
  • The sound of footsteps approached her door, and her entire body began to tremble lightly.
  • To her surprise, the footsteps went past her bedroom and continued down the corridor. She heard the sound of a door opening and closing at the end of the hall, then nothing else. There was complete silence all around.
  • She heaved a long sigh of relief.
  • Is he going to leave me alone tonight?
  • She wearily made herself comfortable on the bed as she stared up at the ceiling in a daze.
  • She slept fitfully that night, constantly waking up and falling back asleep at irregular intervals. Whenever she opened her eyes, she would check to see if someone had knocked over the glass of water by the door.
  • Fortunately, the door remained closed when she woke up in the morning. No one had knocked over the glass of water. The anxiety that had plagued her all night finally faded at the sight, and she felt a sense of relief.
  • Once she got out of bed, she washed up briefly and went downstairs to make breakfast.
  • Danny, who followed a strict routine, went downstairs early in the morning.
  • On the other hand, David, who generally preferred lazing around and sleeping in until late, only ran downstairs with a head of messy black hair when the aroma of Violet's breakfast came wafting upstairs.
  • "Good morning, Mommy." Danny greeted Violet with a smile, then he turned around and glared at David with a menacing look.
  • David chewed on his lips nervously. Then, he glanced at Violet with some reluctance before he mumbled in a shaky voice, "Good morning, Mommy."
  • Violet was so stunned by their unexpected greeting that it took her some time to regain her composure and force out a smile. "Good morning."
  • She had been single for twenty-five years, and she was not used to having two five-year-old children calling her 'Mommy' all of a sudden.
  • For some reason, she was reminded of her unborn child from five years ago. She had been eight months pregnant with that child when the car accident occurred. If she had been a little more careful, then the child might not have been born prematurely or died at birth...
  • If that child had survived, wouldn't they be as big as Danny and David now?
  • She raised her head and glanced at the two adorable children in front of her once more, a smile appearing at the corner of her lips. "I will be a good mother to you both."
  • This might just be fate.
  • She lost her child five years ago, but fate dictated that she became the mother of Danny and David five years later. It might be an opportunity for her to make up for her past mistakes.
  • With that thought in mind, she ignored Hailey's urging and slipped back into the kitchen to carve the hard-boiled eggs she had made for the boys into two rabbits.
  • "Behave yourselves and finish your food! I'm going to work now!" She placed the food on the table. Then, she grabbed her coat and backpack before rushing out the door.
  • David stared at the cute bunny with a slight frown on his face. "Dan, she is so childish."
  • Danny flicked a glance at David. "No, she thinks you are childish."
  • "But she made two. That means she also thinks that you are childish."
  • "You're childish."
  • "No, you're childish!"
  • At this moment, Henry walked downstairs in a suit.
  • The two adorable children immediately called out to him, "Daddy, come here quickly!"
  • He immediately strode over to them upon hearing their excited exclamations at such an early hour. "What is it?"
  • "Here." Danny pushed the two hard-boiled eggs she had carved into bunny shapes toward Henry.
  • David grinned so widely that his eyes formed crescent moons on his face. "Daddy, that's the loving breakfast Mommy made for you today."
  • Henry frowned and stared at the innocent-looking rabbits. "For me?"
  • "Yeah!" David nodded enthusiastically. "Mommy said she wants you to devour her, just like these two little rabbits!"
  • He went silent for a moment, and then he glanced at the rabbits again with a slight frown. "Ryan, wrap them up and bring them to the company."
