Chapter 4 Does It Have to Be Tonight?

  • The next day early in the morning, Violet was woken up by the kindly old butler whom she had met the day before.
  • At the moment, he held a formal dress in his hands as he stood before her. "Madam, why are you sleeping here? Please get dressed quickly because the people from civil affairs will be here soon!"
  • Violet rubbed her throbbing forehead; she didn't sleep well last night, and her head felt heavy now. So, her thoughts were muddled as she gave Ryan a confused look. "Civil Affairs?"
  • "Yes!" He smiled as he said, "Congratulations, you've passed the test, and Master Turner is going to register the marriage with you. From today onward, you're going to be the mistress of this place."
  • That news was akin to an ice-cold bucket of water, and it immediately sobered her up. This news was such a shock to her, and she could only gape at him. "Are you sure that Henry wants to marry me?"
  • Last night, she ran away like a headless chicken after seeing him! It was impossible that he still wanted to marry her!
  • "That's right, madam. Don't be surprised because Master Turner has given it deep consideration before deciding to marry you."
  • She couldn't help but think disparagingly, I don't think he has given it any thought at all. We had only met once last night, and he came to this decision just like that? How sloppy!
  • Still, it was good news to her that Henry was willing to marry her.
  • First of all, she would be able to face the Walts.
  • Secondly, even though Henry looked frightening, now she would at least have a place to call home. Ever since she returned to the Walt Family five years ago… Well, suffice to say, that place was no longer her home.
  • After she had changed into the dress, the officers from the civil affairs department had just arrived.
  • The two officers took a picture of her in the living room and asked her to sign some papers before Ryan led them upstairs.
  • A few minutes later, three of them came downstairs and passed the marriage certificate to her. "Congratulations, you're now officially Mrs. Turner."
  • The female officer even shook her hand with an envious look on her face. "Congratulations, Mrs. Turner. You've got yourself a very good-looking husband."
  • The muscles on Violet's cheeks twitched. A very good-looking husband…?
  • She impulsively opened the certificate, which was in a folder.
  • 'Wife: Violet Walt.'
  • 'Husband: Henry Turner.'
  • On one side of the folder where the wedding picture was supposed to be, there was only a picture of Violet alone.
  • She breathed out a sigh of relief and thought that Henry was quite a considerate person for not putting his picture in the folder. Otherwise, she felt that she wouldn't have the guts to open this folder any longer.
  • "Please get ready, madam." Ryan's face crinkled into a happy smile. "Tonight is your wedding night. Please be prepared to accept Master Henry. I'll leave the place together with the others and leave you and Master Henry alone in the villa."
  • Just a second ago, Violet's heart was thumping with excitement, but it fell to the bottom of her stomach at Ryan's words.
  • The sticky and disgusting sensation she felt when the man's hand touched her arm last night seemed to have made its appearance, and the blood drained from her face. "Do we really have to consummate the marriage tonight?"
  • This was all too sudden, and she wasn't prepared yet, not ready to get used to Henry's face.
  • But Ryan gave her a solemn nod. "Yes, it has to be tonight." They're already married. How can she still be in the dark about Master Turner's real appearance?
  • Besides, he had wasted a great deal of effort to convince Henry not to wear the mask and meet Violet with his actual face!
  • However, Violet was in an utter state of despair, and it was only her self-restraint that stopped her from screaming to the Heavens. Therefore, after breakfast, she hid in the room and sent a message to her good friend, Hailey Miller. 'Recommend a few horror films to me to train my guts. Thanks!'
  • 'I've never heard of such a silly request,' Hailey replied.
  • Hence, all kinds of horror movies—with ancient and modern settings—bombarded her mailbox.
  • She slowly crawled under her sheets as she spent the day watching horror films. Unfortunately, her efforts only rewarded her with multiple trips to the bathroom.
  • By the time the sky had turned dark, she felt that she had trained herself so well that she was as tough as steel. Even if Henry appeared before her eyes again, she wouldn't be afraid of him anymore!
  • So, she went downstairs, drank some water, and turned on the TV, hoping to change her mood by watching some news from today because her heart was queasy and uncomfortable after watching several horror films the whole day.
  • "Breaking news. Just earlier, Brock Dale and Natalie Reed were caught going in and coming out of a hotel together. Our journalists contacted their managers and confirmed that they're in a relationship and will announce their engagement date soon."
  • When she laid her eyes on the two people on the TV screen, she felt a little sick and switched the channel with the remote control.
  • "Brock Dale and Natalie Reed are the popular figures of this year's Golden Bull Awards, and now they've made their romance public. A double win in their career and love life…"
  • Again, she switched the channel, but it was still about them.
  • In the end, she switched off the TV, tossed the remote control aside, and slumped back on the couch in exhaustion, closing her eyes.
  • Brock and Natalie—one was her ex whom she had loved for six years, and another was her best friend she had known for eight.
  • Five days ago, she went to the set to give Brock a surprise visit, but in the end, when she used the spare key to open his lounge, all she heard was their muffled, panting breaths.
  • "Brock, when are you breaking up with Violet? I can't wait anymore."
  • "It's only a matter of time. So, what's the rush?"
  • "Violet's so pretty. I'm worried that you'll have a change of heart."
  • "Be good. Why would I have a change of heart when she already gave birth to someone else's baby five years ago? How can I marry such a filthy woman?"
  • Every word they said stabbed through her heart ruthlessly like a pike.
  • Five years ago, Brock hit rock bottom in his career and was wildly accused by others.
  • Violet saved up money to help him while looking for evidence to clear his name. It was such a difficult case to win.
  • Coincidentally at that time, Sally had just returned to the Walt Family, and Steven and Lacey all turned their backs on her. So, she couldn't bring herself to ask them for money and turned to Natalie to borrow money from her instead.
  • Natalie, in turn, found a way for her to make money—selling her ovum.
  • She didn't know what went wrong in the middle, but the other party who had agreed to an artificial retrieval went back on the agreement, and she was locked in a dark room after taking the ovulation pills.
  • That unknown man had tortured her for a full day and night.
  • After that, she received the money and successfully cleared Brock's name, pushing him to the heights of his career.
  • It had been five years, and when he finally became an A-list celebrity in the entertainment industry, he turned his back and cheated on her with her best friend.
  • He said that he didn't like her because she was filthy and had given birth to someone else's baby before, but for whose sake did she put herself through all these hardships?
  • As she lay on the couch, her tears started pouring uncontrollably like a rainstorm.
  • For six years, she had loved Brock; in a woman's lifetime, how many six years could she waste just like this, only to end up being betrayed for her efforts?
  • She cried for an entire two hours. By the time she had the mind to check the time, she had noticed that it was past 9.00PM, but Henry was nowhere to be seen.
  • He's probably not coming anymore, is he? she asked herself.
  • She sniffled as she turned her attention to the bar in the living room. In her despair, she noticed that there were all sorts of liquor and alcohol that she couldn't even name on the alcohol shelves.
  • Frankly, she wasn't one to drink. But right then, she really wanted a drink to drown her sorrows.
  • Finally, she decided to be impulsive one last time as she simply grabbed the nearest bottle, opened it, and took a swig straight from the bottle. The spicy liquid flowed down her throat, and the burn accompanied her as she cried herself silly while drinking.
  • "You're an *sshole, Brock Dale! You could kiss your award goodbye! I wish you'll end up in the lowest pits, never to return to fame ever again! What's the use of being good-looking when your mind is full of trash? You can't even be compared to the ugly monster Henry Turner!"
  • Outside the door, the man who was holding a key froze in his tracks.
