Chapter 2 Henry Is My Future Husband

  • In the brightly lit study, a man in the main seat with deep-set, elegant facial features was wearing a crisp, white shirt, revealing a manly steel watch at the cuff, and his head was lowered while he flipped through a document.
  • After he finished a page, he instructed calmly, "Get back the funds we've given to the Walt Enterprise tomorrow."
  • The butler, Ryan Dixon, answered respectfully, "Yes." However, he hesitated for a while and said, "Sir, pardon me for being meddlesome, but I think this time, Miss Walt is… A little different from the previous two girls."
  • During the day, Ryan was the one who brought Violet into the house. Her face was fair and clean, and her eyes were clear; she seemed like a remarkably guileless and likable girl at first glance.
  • She spoke very little whilst they made their trip from the Walt Residence to the Turner Villa. She only asked about Henry's preferences, as though she had no regard for the rumors circulating outside.
  • Ever since the two little masters worked together and released the rumor that Henry was an ugly freak with tyrannical tendencies and had tortured two women to death, it was almost impossible to find a woman who wasn't afraid of Henry and wanted to try her best to please him instead.
  • It will be such a waste to let this woman go! Ryan thought.
  • Unfortunately, the man in the seat thought nothing of it. "There's nothing to be sorry about if she can't even pass such a simple test."
  • Ryan couldn't help but think, Sir, you call that simple?
  • When David, the little toddler, dressed up in that costume, even a man in his fifties like himself would shiver at the sight, not to mention a young, innocent girl in her twenties!
  • A sigh escaped his lips. If this continued, when would Henry ever marry?
  • What a pain!
  • Just then, someone rang the doorbell downstairs.
  • A quivering Violet was the one who pressed the doorbell at the door.
  • Actually, when she had made her escape, she had crossed quite a distance.
  • Since she was nyctophobic, thus, deathly afraid of the dark, her fear reached greater heights when she saw the monster the moment the light popped on. But when her fear subsided, she felt that she shouldn't have run away.
  • She was already aware that Henry was an ugly freak with psychological issues after his unfortunate accident.
  • Since she had agreed to the marriage, she should stick to her guns till the very end.
  • Therefore, after a long time of consideration, she finally made her way back to the manor.
  • Although she had firmed her resolve, there was still an unmistakable pallor to her face that showed just how terrified she was. She did try her best to compose herself, but her heart refused to listen to reason as it kept thumping wildly against her chest.
  • Even though she didn't dare to face her future husband now, she knew she had to overcome this hurdle. She had already given her word, so she had no choice but to grit her teeth and stay by his side in the future.
  • A few seconds after she rang the doorbell, the door swung open.
  • Unexpectedly, the one who opened the door wasn't Henry or his butler, but a small, indifferent, and handsome boy who looked around the age of four or five.
  • If this weren't the only villa in the vicinity, she would have thought that she had marched her way back to the wrong house.
  • The little boy glanced at her and turned into the living room, where he pointed at the couch, gesturing to her to take a seat.
  • Violent pursed her lips at his unspoken instruction. Even though she had no idea where this little boy came from, she knew that he had no ill intentions.
  • So, she tried to conceal the after-effects of her episode earlier as she slowly staggered and slumped into the couch. When the child noticed that she was seated, he didn't say anything as he turned to serve her a glass of warm water.
  • "Thank you."
  • As she held the glass with shaky hands, the warmth seeped through the glass and into her skin. She focused her senses on the heat emanating from the glass, causing her mind to calm as idle curiosity soon replaced her fear slowly. I say, who is this strange fae-like child?
  • Meanwhile, the little boy took a look at her, paced to the small drawer at the side, and started searching for something.
  • "Wow!" Meanwhile, a child standing at his tippy toes near the railing on the second floor stared at the frightened Violent with disbelief. He was certain that he had succeeded at pulling off another prank, so he had never once entertained the thought of the woman actually returning! So, he stared at the scene downstairs with his mouth agape before muttering, "She actually came back? Daddy, should I give her a scare again?"
  • The tall, quiet man stood in the shadows and glanced downstairs at the woman, who was curled into a ball, before shifting his gaze to his other son, who was rummaging for the first-aid box. "No," he answered with a frown.
  • Outsiders only knew that Henry was disfigured in a fire five years ago, and his personality turned weird and sadistic. However, only a handful of people knew that he also had a pair of twin boys after that fire five years ago.
  • His elder son, Danny Turner, had a reserved personality and talked very little, whereas his younger son, David Turner… Well, he was a mischievous little imp who could come up with the oddest things if they suited his fancy.
  • But at the moment, Danny, who had always been aloof, was actually getting water and medication for a woman he had never met before.
  • "Ouch!"
  • When the cotton swab dipped in the cooling disinfectant got in contact with the gash on her calf, only then did Violet realize that she was in such a rush to escape earlier that she didn't even know that she had injured herself.
  • She blinked out the terror in her eyes as she lowered her head. Perhaps she was in shock because she saw a child holding a bottle of disinfectant in one hand and a cotton swab in another, disinfecting her wound carefully.
  • The bright light cast down by the glazed lamp poured over his long lashes, casting a shadow over his cheeks.
  • Such a young, considerate boy, she thought distractedly. There was a fuzzy, warm feeling in her chest, and her voice unconsciously turned tender, "What's your name, little boy? Why are you here?"
  • After Danny disinfected her wound, he put a Band-Aid on it and said, "Danny." Then, when he was satisfied with his work, he raised his head and finally looked at her. "That's my name."
  • The longer she looked at him, the more entranced she became by his adorable face and his tiny little hands. Eventually, Violet couldn't stop herself from giving in to her impulse by reaching out to touch him, but he nimbly dodged her.
  • He gracefully moved away, went to the couch across from her, climbed up, and sat down in a series of fluid motions. His actions were so strange that her mind, which was still somewhat delirious from the traumatizing incident earlier and couldn't help wondering, If it wasn't for the pain earlier, I'd have thought that I had hit my head and was currently hallucinating.
  • To be fair, a strange, beautiful boy whom I didn't know was tending to my wounds, Nevertheless, the question he posed to her immediately snapped her back to reality. The child's eyes carried a hint of maturity to him that made him seem like an old soul, so she couldn't help instinctively taking his words seriously as he asked, "Why did you return?"
  • Why did I return? she repeated the question in her mind. After a brief moment of silence, she smiled and replied solemnly, "Because this will be my home, and I have promised to marry Henry. He is my future husband, so I will always return."
  • Danny lowered his head and fidgeted with his tiny fingers. "Aren't you afraid?"
  • She was momentarily taken aback by his words and wondered, That's an odd question from a child. Nonetheless, she gave him an honest reply, "I am, and there's no point hiding the fact that I am. But I also have no choice. I've already made a promise, and I will never go back on my promises, nor will I regret it."
  • She wasn't a person who would flee once the going got tough. Furthermore, if she messed up this time, resulting in Steven being unable to receive that funding, her life wouldn't be any better after that.
  • "He… No matter how ugly or horrifying Henry is, I'll try my best to overcome my fear and be a good wife to him."
  • Even she herself didn't understand why she was telling this to a child she had just met for the first time. She also reckoned that he probably didn't understand what she was trying to convey. Still, she was in a strange place and seemed to have landed head-first into the oddest situation in her entire life. She supposed that weirder things could happen. Besides, it wasn't as though she could confide in anyone about her thoughts. So far, this little guy was the only one who actually talked to her.
  • "He's not ugly." After a moment of comfortable silence, the boy lifted his head and gazed at her earnestly. "Don't worry."
  • She stared at him bewilderedly and had to swallow harshly before she blurted something to burst his bubble, You call that not ugly? I was already being polite by refraining from calling him a hideous Frankenstein's Monster! Kid, I've already seen him!
  • Regardless, she was currently facing a child. Since he was still so young, there was a high possibility that Henry had never exposed him to such a sight. Following that train of thought, maybe Henry wouldn't be that bad since he was still considerate about a child's feelings.
  • So, she inhaled deeply as she smiled and swiftly changed the subject, "Are you hungry? Should I prepare something delicious for you?"
  • Violet didn't have any skills she could show off except being an excellent cook.
  • Therefore, when she was presented with such a handsome and kind child, she could only think of preparing some delicious food for him as the only way to repay his kindness. Well, they might even become closer after their interesting talk.
  • Danny eyed the time before he said indifferently. "You have half an hour." She couldn't really make heads or tails of his remark, so she ended up staring at him, utterly baffled. Finally, he added, "I'm not allowed to eat after 8.00PM, and it's already 7.20PM.
  • Violet immediately dashed right into the spotless and tidy kitchen. Although there weren't many ingredients, the herbs and seasonings were fully stocked.
  • On the other hand, the adult and child, who were standing silently on the second floor, could only watch in stunned silence as she flitted about in the kitchen.
  • "Daddy, what do you think she's up to?" David leaned against the railing, feeling somewhat restless as he pouted his lips and huffed, "She's too naive, trying to please Dan with food. He's famous for being a picky eater."
  • Henry didn't answer as he stared at Violet with a thoughtful look. Somehow, this woman gave him an inexplicable sense of familiarity.
