Chapter 7 Suspicion Aroused

  • Yvonne nearly got choked when she heard that. The man immediately gave her a glass of water. “Eat slowly.”
  • All hell broke loose when she met the man's gentle gaze.
  • “I'm a divorcee. I grew up in a single-parent family. My mom is sick and is still recuperating in the hospital. Her monthly medical bills can go up to five figures, so can you imagine our financial burden? Moreover, I don't want to live with your parents after marrying you, and I don't want to give birth to three kids. No, I don't want to have any kids at all. I heard you're the only son in the family, and your parents once said they looked forward to taking care of your kids...” Yvonne blurted everything out in one breath.
  • Yvonne thought she could give him her honest opinions, since she would not be seeing him again in the future.
  • “You're trying to frighten me away, aren't you?” Savant asked.
  • Yvonne lifted her eyes and stared at him. That was what she had in mind.
  • Yet, she did not see any disgust in his eyes. “I'm just telling you the truth. I'm sure those people didn't tell you all this, but I think I should come clean and not hide anything from you.”
  • The man looked up and replied honestly, “I don't plan to stay with my parents after the marriage, and I'm also not a big fan of kids. As for your mother's situation, I can take care of her medical bills. With my current income, the medical bills would not be a burden to me at all, so you don't have to worry about anything.”
  • Savant fixed his gentle gaze on the woman while sizing her up.
  • Yvonne, who had been in relationships, felt something was amiss. Oh, dear. He must have fallen for me! D*mn it!
  • She never expected the current events to happen. The outcome was the opposite of what she had expected. Annalise is gonna kill me!
  • “Em... Are you done eating? It's getting late, and I should go home now.” Yvonne had completely lost her appetite. She just wanted to leave before things spiraled out of control.
  • “I'll give you a lift.” The man put down his cutlery and grabbed his car keys when she stood up.
  • “No, thanks. We're going in different directions.” When she was about to leave, she failed to notice the man walking in her direction and accidentally bumped into the man.
  • Just when she thought she would fall and knock her head against the floor, someone held her by the waist to prevent her from falling.
  • She heaved a sigh of relief and was grateful to the person for his kind gesture.
  • The moment she fell into the man's arms, a faint tobacco scent wafted into her nose. The fragrance was somewhat strangely refreshing.
  • Yvonne tilted her head and saw the complicated and indifferent look in Jonathan's deep eyes. Upon seeing his face, she shoved him away.
  • She could not help but feel she was down on her luck. Why do I have to run into two annoying people? Why can't I have my meal in peace?
  • Jonathan's gaze darkened when he turned his attention to the woman.
  • Though Yvonne was wearing proper attire, he could see her upper chest area, since her collars were upturned when she fell into his arms.
  • He looked away, but he suddenly froze for a moment.
  • He seemed to notice a mole near the woman's collarbone. Could that be...
  • Jonathan reached his hand out and adjusted her collar so he could have a clearer view of her collarbone.
  • “Hey, you pervert!” Yvonne shrieked. She was taken aback by how disrespectful the man was.
  • She swung her hand and was about to hit Jonathan, but the latter gripped her wrist to stop her from moving.
  • “Let me take a look,” he said in a serious tone.
  • Yvonne's face reddened. Feeling mad and embarrassed, she wanted to pull herself away from him.
  • While Jonathan was about to tug at her collar, someone walked over.
  • Savant smacked Jonathan's hands and stood in front of Yvonne. He said with a grim expression, “I hope you know what you're doing is against the law, Mr. Lawson.”
  • Jonathan responded with a cold snort. “It's none of your business, Savant Murlond!”
  • “She's my girlfriend.” Savant expressed his stance without any hesitation.
  • The two men were in a stand-off as none of them refused to give in.
  • Jonathan glared at the woman hiding behind Savant, and fury instantly flashed across his eyes. I can't believe she has managed to win the heart of this man from the Murlond family. What a seductress.
