Chapter 11 Be The Assistant Of The CEO

  • Carrying her bag, Yvonne left. Just then, the doors of the elevator suddenly opened.
  • The man standing in front was dressed smartly in a black suit. His handsome features looked like a masterpiece the gods had carefully carved.
  • “Ms. Walker has settled into the translation department. Do you want to go see her?”
  • Ever since that night, Jonathan had not been able to find even a trace of familiarity with Ximena. There was not even a feeling of anticipation as the thought of seeing her crossed his mind.
  • Ximena Walker... Could it be because I was drugged the other night?
  • “Going forward, you don't have to report anything about her to me anymore.”
  • With that being said, Jonathan left without looking back.
  • In the meantime, Yvonne had gone to the hospital. Wendy was feeling better. Her condition had improved as well.
  • “Yvonne, you must be so tired from work. I'm feeling better, and I can take care of myself now. I should be discharged from the hospital so we can go home. What do you say?”
  • “Of course not. Have you forgotten what the doctor said? Besides, I'll be going to work every day. I'm not at ease with the thought of you being alone in the house. Just stay in the hospital, all right? It's for the best. Don't worry about the hospital fees.”
  • “But...” Wendy had always wanted to ask Yvonne from where the latter had gotten the money for the surgery back then. However, Wendy was afraid that the answer was not what she had hoped for.
  • “Then you must take care of yourself while you're at work.”
  • “Mom, I'd be sitting in an office the entire day. What dangers can I possibly encounter? Don't worry about me and focus on recovering.”
  • After helping her mother with a few things, Yvonne went home. As she thought about herself being able to work tomorrow, her heart swelled with joy. To her dismay, she did not receive a call from the human resource department regarding her employment.
  • She had been rejected in interviews before. Judging from the situation, Yvonne was sure that she had not failed to secure the job.
  • Surprisingly, she received a notice about her employment in the middle of the night.
  • At nine o'clock on the next day, Yvonne hurried to the company for the onboarding procedures. Finnick Thorncroft, the vice president of the company, personally took her to the HR department.
  • “Follow me to the HR department, Yvonne. The job here can be quite taxing. You'll have to get yourself familiar first.”
  • “Thank you, Professor Thorncroft.”
  • Finnick had been a professor at a university. Yvonne had interacted with him a couple of times before, but the two of them had never been close. When Yvonne had received a call from him the night before, she was a little surprised. Never would she have imagined Finnick to remember her after all those years.
  • However, she was extremely grateful that Finnick had managed to get her a job.
  • In the corridor of the second floor, Jonathan, who was holding some documents in his hands, saw Yvonne's retreating figure. He frowned slightly. “Find out what Yvonne is doing here.”
  • Within minutes, Yosef came back with the result of the investigation.
  • “Old Mr. Lawson hired her himself.”
  • Hired her himself?
  • Soon, Jonathan's phone began to ring.
  • “I hired her into the company myself.”
  • Walter spoke as if there was nothing Jonathan could do about him. His words made Jonathan's gaze turn cold.
  • “The company does not hire those who are incompetent and get in through connections.”
  • “Didn't that lover of yours get in through connections?”
  • Jonathan was so furious that his expression darkened. However, he had to admit that Ximena did get into the company through connections. “That's not the same.”
  • “What's not the same? That's such a double standard. As long as the divorce certificate has yet been completed, the two of you are still husband and wife.”
  • Jonathan was rendered speechless.
  • “Besides, from what I know, Yvonne's abilities are impressive. She was guaranteed a spot at Yaleview University and graduated with a double degree in finance and translation. That year, in the Elino competition, Yvonne won first place effortlessly. Back then, there were even a lot of...” Walter paused for a few seconds, then he continued, “Anyway, Yvonne got in through the interview. Her competence will not be a problem. Unless she leaves voluntarily, you are not allowed to kick her out with any other underhanded method. Otherwise, I'll find a way to deal with your lover. I can tell she's not a good person, considering the fact that she seduced someone's husband.”
  • Elino was an international mathematical olympiad competition.
  • One's intelligence would have to be far above a normal person's to enter the finals. During the competition that year, a girl had performed miracles.
  • That was Yvonne? How come I don't recognize her?
  • Jonathan hung up the phone and massaged his glabella. Because of Walter's intervention, the divorce certificate would take another month to complete.
  • Within that month, Yvonne would still be his wife.
  • Jonathan turned to Yosef. “Go inform the HR department to give her some small tasks to do, but don't let her lay her hands on the company's important projects.”
  • Yosef hesitated. He was well aware that what he was ordered to do would piss someone off.
  • However, a glint flashed across his eyes, and a thought crept into his mind. Remembering what Walter had said, Yosef immediately went down to the HR department and gave an order.
  • Yvonne did not expect that she would be brought to the top floor.
  • Finnick had told her that she would be doing her job in the translation department on the fiftieth floor. Yet, at that moment, the elevator showed that she would be heading to the hundredth floor.
  • Anxiety surged in her heart till she laid her eyes on Yosef.
  • “What are you doing here?”
  • A sense of foreboding rose in Yvonne's heart.
  • “Mrs. Lawson, Mr. Lawson happens to be in need of an assistant. I thought that you'd be a fit for the role, so I have you transferred to the hundredth floor.” Yosef grinned widely.
  • Yvonne widened her eyes. An assistant? I have to be that guy's assistant?
