Chapter 3 Cannot Let That Happen

  • Unwilling to contemplate further, Yvonne took a cab to the affluent neighborhood to try her luck. After all, she would not be able to provide her mother with an explanation if she went home just like that. However, when she arrived at the neighborhood's entrance, the security guard informed her that a visitor needed to show an invitation from one of the residents before they were allowed to enter. Unfortunately, Yvonne had nothing to offer.
  • She thought that was the best outcome for her to be prohibited from going into the neighborhood.
  • Just as she was about to leave, someone called out to her.
  • “Yvonne, why aren't you entering since you're already here? My house is a little far from here. Get into the car, and I’ll bring you there.”
  • As the car window rolled down, Yvonne saw Ximena sitting in the backseat of a luxurious car. Despite her welcoming speech to invite Yvonne to her house, Ximena's eyes were filled with disdain.
  • Yvonne swiftly noticed the vehicle Ximena was sitting in.
  • It was a limited edition Rolls-Royce that was worth tens of millions.
  • Meanwhile, the driver had helped Yvonne open the door to the passenger seat after he received Ximena's instruction.
  • “That's not needed.”
  • Yvonne was reluctant to go in. She handed the monetary gift to Ximena and turned to leave. However, she was quickly halted by the driver.
  • “Ms. Yvonne, our lady invited you to get into the car.”
  • Yvonne glanced at him. Ximena is as assertive as her mother. I reckon she insists I visit her place so she can flaunt her wealth.
  • Yvonne got into the car without saying another word. Soon, the vehicle arrived before a grand and luxurious mansion.
  • Right after they got out of the car, Ximena grabbed Yvonne's arm and asked secretively, “Yvonne, were you with a man a few nights ago?”
  • Yvonne was stumped.
  • “The lady living next door mentioned that you'd caused a rather huge commotion that night and disrupted her sleep, so she called the police. The police even summoned me over. You don't know how embarrassing it was for me when I went to the police station that day.”
  • Ximena observed Yvonne's reaction intently as she spoke.
  • My biased grandpa left that house to Yvonne's mother, that woman dying of sickness. Fortunately, my father transferred the house title while she was disease-ridden.
  • Therefore, Ximena was now the owner of that property.
  • Initially, she wanted to change the lock for the door that day and chase Yvonne out of that place too. However, she stumbled into someone who asked her if that house belonged to her. Naturally, Ximena nodded in response. Then, that person unbelievably told her the scion of the family he served had bedded her and wanted to marry her.
  • Ximena was bewildered after listening to him. Her initial reaction was that the man was pranking her.
  • But then, he drove her to a magnificent mansion. She had never seen a house of such spectacular opulence, even on television.
  • Moreover, the person who wished to marry her was none other than the famous heir to the Lawson family, Jonathan Lawson.
  • Ximena fell in love with him at first sight when she took in the appearance of Jonathan, the epitome of male beauty. She was captivated by him at the sight of his tall figure and handsome face.
  • Utterly lost in the joy, Ximena disregarded everything else and immediately admitted that she was the girl who had slept with him that night.
  • Then, she quit her job, moved into a huge mansion, and bought a new car.
  • It was not until a few days ago, when she recollected her composure, that she wondered if Jonathan and his subordinate had made a mistake.
  • She secretly inquired about the incident that night from the Lawson family's butler. Clarity washed over Ximena instantaneously as she realized Jonathan had actually slept with Yvonne!
  • “Aunt Wendy is sick. If you act immaturely and get pregnant, you'll have to bear a lot of responsibilities in the future. Don't blame me for being nosy, but think about it. When it comes to these matters related to men, women would always be at a disadvantage. In the past, your mother did not listen to her elders' advice and became another man's mistress...”
  • Ximena carefully sounded Yvonne out, as she wanted to know if the latter knew who she had slept with.
  • Yvonne clenched her fists and wore an indifferent expression. “Ximena, nosy people usually don't live long. If you have nothing better to do, just mind your own business.”
  • Ximena faked a smile. “I'm just worried others will take advantage of you. Since you've already been intimate with him, I assume he will marry you?”
  • Marry me? That thought has never even crossed my mind. Besides, we've just filed for a divorce!
  • “That's my personal matter. Why should I share it with you?” Yvonne met Ximena's eyes. Perhaps due to Yvonne's overly straightforward gaze, Ximena could not help but feel a little guilty.
  • Ximena glanced at Yvonne and hurriedly looked away.
  • The next second, she shifted her gaze to Yvonne's belly. It's been almost a week since they slept together. If Yvonne is pregnant with Jonathan's child, I...
  • Ximena did not wish to take that risk no matter what, so she acquired some medication from the doctor that could induce miscarriage in advance. Regardless of Yvonne's pregnancy status, Ximena wanted to make sure Yvonne did not bear a child.
  • Therefore, she invited Yvonne and her mother to have a meal for the sake of eliminating the existence of that child Yvonne might be carrying.
  • Ximena handed the glass of water she had prepared in advance to Yvonne. “Yvonne, I did not say that on purpose, so don't be mad. I'm just worried a jerk may take advantage of you. Here, drink some water to soothe your throat. The weather is so hot. Join us for a meal at the restaurant later.”
