Chapter 12 He Must Have Lost His Mind
- Yvonne's brows knitted together tightly.
- She was so frustrated that she had forgotten that the biggest company in Yaleview belonged to Jonathan.
- “I've never been an assistant before. I don't think I'm up for the job.”
- “Perhaps you're not aware of it, Mrs. Lawson, but once you've signed the contract to work here, you cannot resign within the first three years unless you are fired by the company. Of course, you can't let your work be affected by any negative emotions either. All your work will be evaluated as well!”
- Yvonne was at a loss for words.
- “Even though the contract seems a little unreasonable, you have to understand that many people have fought and competed with all their might to get themselves a job here. The contract is drafted for the sake of fairness. Besides, a contract as such is quite common and well known in the industry,” Yosef explained.
- Remaining silent, Yvonne clenched her fists.
- “Here's a report from the finance department. Please take it to Mr. Lawson.”
- With that said, Yosef handed Yvonne a file. “All the best, Mrs. Lawson!”
- Yvonne frowned. It was her fault to have signed the contract without reading the terms and conditions carefully. However, things had changed. She needed that job.
- Whatever. I'll cross the bridge when I come to it. After all, he's just my ex-husband! What's the big deal?
- Taking a deep breath to collect herself, Yvonne knocked on the door and pushed it open. When she entered the room, she was immediately greeted by Jonathan's unfriendly face.
- He always looked as though someone had pissed him off. Yvonne thought that Jonathan was an exceptionally difficult man to deal with.
- Jonathan realized instantly that he had been set up by Yosef. He had not expected to be hoisted with his own petard.
- With a deep frown, he looked at the woman who had entered his office.
- “Don't think that I'll be interested in you just because you have won Grandpa's favor! You better do your job with excellence. Otherwise, I'll kick you out.”
- “You can kick me out?”
- Yvonne's eyes glistened in response.
- She wanted nothing more than to be kicked out at that moment.
- “Don't think you can use the same methods that you've used on other men on me. I won't fall for it,” Jonathan warned icily.
- His curt remarks enraged Yvonne. She threw the documents heavily on his desk. “I'm afraid that you're too full of yourself, Mr. Lawson. I've moved on, and I'll never get back together with you. Even if all the other men in this world have died, I will not be interested in you in the slightest.”
- At once, Jonathan's expression darkened.
- “What did you just say?”
- Yvonne merely glanced at him mockingly in response. “Turning deaf at such a young age? I will not repeat myself.”
- Jonathan pressed the intercom. That was the first time he had seen such a shameless woman. He was extremely frustrated, but his mannerism would not allow him to argue with a woman.
- “Yosef, get her some work to do.”
- Yosef thought that he would be in deep trouble. After all, he had messed with his boss.
- When he entered the office, he pointed to the bookshelf and the coffee table. “Your task today is to tidy the books and clean up the coffee table.”
- Yvonne recalled what Yosef had said. If she breached the contract, she would have to pay for the liquidated damage, which would cost her billions. That thought alone was enough to give her a headache.
- Therefore, she had no choice but to succumb to them, since she was now in their territory.
- Reluctantly, Yvonne walked over to the bookshelf.
- It's just tidying up the books. What's so hard about it? Using my hands will be easier than using my brains anyway.
- Meanwhile, Jonathan was having an online meeting. Usually, rarely anyone would be allowed to enter his office. That day, however, there was another figure in his office, and that figure kept moving around before his eyes.
- His thoughts were greatly interrupted.
- As he raised his gaze, he noticed that Yvonne was wearing the uniform of the company. Her hair had been tied up into a ponytail, revealing the fair skin on her neck. Her slender calves were exposed as well.
- For some reason, her silhouette reminded him of the woman from the other night. He thought that Yvonne resembled the woman more than Ximena did. I must have lost my mind.
- Jonathan tugged his collar out of frustration.
- She's such a money-grubbing and lecherous woman! How could it have been her?
- At once, he made a phone call. “From tomorrow onward, everyone in the company has to wear long pants!”
- Just then, Yvonne's phone rang. After tossing a glance at the man who was having a meeting, she quickly went out of the office to answer the call.
- “Hello? Who's this?”
- “This is Savant Murlond.”
- Reckoning that the man on the other end was a stranger, Yvonne hung up on the man without hesitation.
- However, the caller refused to give up and called again.
- “I think you've gotten the wrong number, sir.”
- “Let's meet up at Armcox Mansion on the first of June at half-past six.”
- Only then did realization dawn on Yvonne. Could it be that Annalise gave him my phone number? Hmmm... Perhaps Annalise was worried that he could not find me the other night when we went on a date, so it is reasonable for her to give the man my phone number.
- Nevertheless, Yvonne wondered why he had called. Didn't I make myself clear that night?
- “Can I help you?” Yvonne had no idea why he had called.
- “Are you busy?”
- “Yeah, I'm at work right now. If there's anything you need my help with, please make it quick.”
- Savant went silent for a few seconds before he said, “There's nothing urgent. Go ahead with your work. I won't disturb you anymore. We'll contact each other some other time.”
- With that, he hung up.
- Savant's gentle voice shocked the people around him. “Have you gotten yourself a date, Mr. Murlond?”
- A date?
- Savant smiled. Could this be fate? Probably.
- Meanwhile, when Yvonne returned to the office, she was met with Jonathan's darkened face.
- “Did I hire you to flirt with men during work hours?”
