Chapter 7 That Old Man of the Jennings Family
- Benedict unhurriedly returned to the heavy wooden desk and sat down. There were also several aromatic candles on the table, and the fragrance spread throughout the room, allowing him to calm down.
- When Gregory pushed the door open, it was just in time to see Benedict bending down to pick up a glass from the ground.
- The little guy's face was fair and tender, but he always had his lips pursed, and he was full of composure far beyond his age. When he saw Gregory coming in, he simply asked, "Gregory, is there something the matter?"
- Sweat beaded on Gregory’s forehead as he thought to himself that the boy had truly inherited Ethan’s domineering aura.
- "Nothing. I just wanted to ask you what you want to eat for lunch?"
- "Whatever." Benedict pursed his mouth. Right now, he was very unhappy because of what Ethan said.
- Gregory also seemed to see what was going on and looked at the little guy lovingly. "Young Master Benedict, Dylan told me that you appointed a female designer to decorate your new villa?"
- At the mention of Thea, the corners of Benedict's mouth curved slightly. "Yeah."
- His father wouldn't tell him where his mother was, so he started with Thea.
- We can always find out!
- Thinking of that, he was full of spirit.
- "Then, in a few days, I'll take you over to see the progress."
- "Okay, thanks, Gregory."
- Faced with such an obedient and understanding Benedict, Gregory was overwhelmed with emotion. He wondered just how cruel his mother was to abandon him for four whole years without caring at all.
- ...
- On the other hand, Thea very frankly accepted the fact that she had lost the project. After she got off work, she went to pick up Rowan. The little one looked at Thea, then immediately puffed up his cheeks before stomping up and staring at her.
- Looking at him, Thea asked suspiciously, "Rowan, what are you doing?"
- "Checking!" Rowan's agile and nimble little body moved back and forth as he sniffed her. "Grandma said you took on a big project to design a house for a child, so I want to check if you have kissed and hugged that child!"
- Thea laughed aloud at that. She knew the little one didn't like her to have contact with other men, but she did not expect him to be this possessive.
- “So, did you find out anything?”
- “Hmph!” As Rowan did not smell anything, he shook his head with his arms around his chest. As for Thea, she decided not to tell him about losing a project again for the time being, so as not to make him worry.
- Then, the two took the bus back home. When Thea was changing her shoes at the door, she saw her mother, Catherine Nash, coming out of the kitchen with an apron around her waist while winking at her.
- "How was it? Is the Birthday Villa of that little prince of the Jennings Family big? How much was the design fee? Is it according to the size of the house or the whole project price? The Jennings Family is famous, so they will certainly give you a generous offer, and soon we will be able to prosper!”
- As Catherine spoke, she winked again at Thea. “Oh yeah, have you seen Ethan Jennings? Is he handsome? See if you can manage to get into a relationship with him, and maybe we can become an important family again.”
- "Mom..." Thea immediately glanced at Catherine. She didn’t wish to talk about work and wanted to warn her mother not to talk about this in front of the child.
- However, Rowan had heard it, and his face darkened. Hitting the table with his hand, he looked at them seriously and said, “What do you mean by getting into a relationship with that old man Jennings? I’ve not yet investigated his background, so I cannot be sure that he’s worthy of my mother. Grandma, don’t try to play cupid!”
- Catherine was speechless. Ethan was rumored to be less than 30 years old this year, which was a prime age for men, so how did he become an old man?
- Feeling dumbfounded, she hurried to hug Rowan again, trying to persuade him. "Rowan, think about it. If your mommy can marry into a fine family, then you will become a top young master, and not only can you live in a big house, but you will also have many amazing toys—"
- “I am not a three-year-old child, so I do not need a big house nor toys.” Like an eel, he slipped out of Catherine's arm.
- Pulling out a chair, Rowan gestured at Thea as he looked at her and said, "Teddy, sit here. Your sweetheart wants a hug."
- "Tch, you brat, why can’t you be persuaded? Don't forget the other day when your mommy went on a business trip, and it was me who slept with you during the storm!" Catherine feigned annoyance.
- Next, Thea bent down to take the boy into her arms and rubbed the little one's face. Rowan had been afraid of thunder since he was a baby, and when the storm came, he always needed someone to stay with him to feel safe.
- "Did you get scared by the thunder that night?"
- Hearing that, Rowan looked embarrassed and a little defiant. When I grow up, I won't be afraid.
- "I will become a man sooner or later!" he said coolly.
- Thea rubbed the little one's hair. "Of course, it's just a matter of time. Eat quickly. After eating, I will bathe you."
- "Remember to send me to school tomorrow, or I will be angry." Rowan wanted to stick with Thea 24 hours a day, but now he had to go to school, and she needed to work, so their time together was getting less and less.
- "Don't worry, I'll try to do what I promised you. By the way, I'll take you to buy some clothes. Since you're going to school, you have to dress well."
- Rowan arrogantly raised his jaw. "My temperament decides how good the clothes are."
- Catherine laughed and remarked, "This brat is nothing like his father."
- That sudden remark evoked Thea's memory of Sebastian. Although they hadn’t met for four years, Sebastian was flirtatious by nature, so every now and then, he would appear on the entertainment gossip headlines with a variety of female celebrities.
- She heard that he was recently very close with a girl from the Morris Family. Thinking of that, Thea lost her smile and stopped talking.
- When Catherine saw Thea's expression, she knew that she had spoken out of turn and simply said, "Tomorrow, when you go and buy clothes, buy me some too. My poker friends think that my clothes are too old-fashioned. In the past, I used to be Mrs. Stratford, and I could have anything I wanted under the sun. I’m actually lowering myself by playing cards with them!"
- Catherine was actually not Thea's birth mother but the successor that Kay married later.
- After the bankruptcy of the Stratford Family, she could not adapt to such a huge gap, so after Thea got into her groove, she helped the latter take care of the child. When she had nothing to do, she would go out to play cards with her friends and spend her day shopping or gossiping.
- However, Thea could also understand her. After all, Catherine had enjoyed the luxury Stratford Family gave for many years, and it was too much to ask her to start all over again.
- The next day, Thea thought of taking Rowan clothes shopping, so she explained to Jocelyn in advance and left work, taking the little boy straight to the lavishly decorated shopping center.
- There were a lot of dazzling shops and bright lights. When Rowan fancied a set of racing car models, Thea did not hesitate to buy it for him. Not being able to give her son a complete family, she could only use all her love to make up for it.
- The salesgirl at the mall was charmed by Rowan and included a set of cool little sunglasses for free. At this time, Rowan was wearing a handsome denim short jacket. So, under the lights, the denim and the sunglasses contrasted with each other, and paired with Rowan’s chubby and fair face, he looked even cuter.
- As the mother and son held hands, they were suddenly turned into an incomparably eye-catching existence in the mall!
