Chapter 8 Bond Broken

  • After returning to her father's old mansion, Cassandra dialed the number she knew by heart.
  • “Cassandra, what are you planning now?” came the indifferent voice of Thaddeus from the other end.
  • Her voice was equally devoid of warmth as if he were a stranger to her. “Don't forget to break the bond tomorrow.”
  • Thaddeus furrowed his brows. “You...”
  • Before he could finish speaking, the call was abruptly ended from the other side. The man gripped his phone tightly, his gaze growing heavy.
  • “Thaddeus, who was that on the phone?” From the bed inside the room, Meredith cast a puzzled look toward the balcony.
  • Thaddeus put away his phone nonchalantly, then walked over to her. He adjusted her blanket lightly and said, “It's nothing. You should take your medicine first.”
  • Meredith's pale face tugged at his heartstrings. She held onto the man's hand, her lips pouted pitifully. “The medicine is too bitter, and it's making me feel uncomfortable inside.”
  • Thaddeus raised an eyebrow. “Remember when we were pen pals, you mentioned that you weren't afraid to take medicine? Darling, you need to drink your medicine to get better.”
  • He casually made a remark, oblivious to the fleeting emotion that flashed in Meredith's eyes.
  • Quickly, she lifted her face again, her eyes bright and big. “I'll listen to you, Thaddeus.”
  • Meredith had been in a coma for six years. Her body was frail, her face devoid of color, and her personality remained as it was during her school days.
  • Seeing her like that tugged at Thaddeus' heartstrings. “Next time, I'll have Maddox prepare some desserts for you. You can have some right after you finish your medicine.”
  • Meredith flashed a charming smile, playfully clinging to his arm. “Thaddeus, you treat me the best!”
  • After leaving the room, Thaddeus descended the stairs. He heard the front door being pushed open with a loud 'bang'. Lucian returned home, his face dark with anger.
  • He glanced at his elder brother, hesitant to speak. “Thaddeus, I saw Cassandra at the bar today. She was with a male model, and they seemed unusually close.”
  • Thaddeus' face turned cold. “Who was it?”
  • “I think his name was Cyrus. That annoying guy, Quentin, was also there.”
  • “I will be breaking the bond with her tomorrow, so stop bothering her in the future,” Thaddeus said. He picked up his coat and left, ignoring the surprised look on his brother's face.
  • Lucian blankly stared at Thaddeus' retreating figure. Is Cassandra really about to leave the Dark Moon Pack? Yet, for some reason, I'm not feeling happy at all. Thaddeus doesn't seem like it, too.
  • The following day, Cassandra woke up early and made a special effort to dress up.
  • She pulled out the black body-hugging dress from her wardrobe and put it on. There was a time when she wore it out to show Thaddeus, only to be told it looked unattractive. Since then, she never worn it again.
  • At that moment, not only had she put it on, but she had also put on a sophisticated makeup look and plum lipstick, exuding an aura that was larger than life.
  • Even if she was about to face an agonizing ordeal, she was determined to look her absolute best!
  • Cassandra arrived at the office where Thaddeus was located.
  • Cassandra put on a fake smile. “Let's get this over quickly. I'm rather busy.”
  • Thaddeus glanced at the smile on her face, his gaze heavy. “Are you in such a rush because of that male model?”
  • Cassandra paused for a moment, then realized what he had misunderstood.
  • However, she didn't explain. Instead, she raised her eyebrows with a half-smile. “My personal affairs are none of your business.”
  • Thaddeus didn't appreciate her attitude as it made him feel like he didn't matter. “Do you like him?”
  • Seeing him persist in questioning, Cassandra grew somewhat impatient. “Yes, that's right, I do like him. Are you satisfied now? Can we proceed with the divorce?”
  • Thaddeus' lips pursed into a straight line, a layer of frost covering his handsome features.
  • Given her urgency, he decided to oblige her.
  • “I, Thaddeus, the Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack, refuse to accept you, Cassandra, as my mate and reject you as the Luna of the Dark Moon Pack,” declared Thaddeus. As soon as the words left his lips, he was consumed by a heart-wrenching pain deep within his chest.
  • Cassandra's complexion turned deathly pale in an instant despite her bright lipstick. The large beads of sweat breaking out on her forehead made it clear that she, too, was enduring immense pain.
  • Cassandra felt an intense force tearing at her chest. Mentally, she continued to persist. After all, the contract dissolution was only halfway done.
  • “I, Cassandra, the Luna of the Dark Moon Pack, accept the rejection of my mate, Thaddeus, the Alpha.” Once those words were spoken, Cassandra felt the last faint connection between her and Thaddeus completely severed.
  • The place where she had once been marked, her neck, felt as though it was engulfed by a massive, burning flame.
  • The individual who had been rejected had to endure a powerful pain. As the agony intensified, Cassandra's strength began to falter, causing her to collapse limply onto the ground.
  • “Over...” Cassandra struggled to lift her head at that moment, looking at Thaddeus who was standing in front of her. “It's over.”
  • From that point forward, they had no connection anymore. She no longer had to bend over backward for him!
  • Taking a deep breath, she forcefully swallowed all her pain. When she looked up again, her smile was radiant, which deeply pierced Thaddeus' heart.
  • At that moment, Cyrus, clad in a jacket, burst into the room. His handsome and sharp features softened at the sight of Cassandra, who was slumped on the ground. His eyes filled with distress as he said, “Cassandra, I'm here to pick you up. Let's go home.”
  • After speaking, he glanced at Thaddeus, his eyes filled with a threatening look.
  • “To think a rogue dare to venture alone into my Dark Moon Pack.” Thaddeus emanated a dangerous aura, seemingly ready to eliminate that unwelcome intruder.
  • “Upon hearing that I was here to see Cassandra, your pack members let me in. I suppose you could say your Dark Moon Pack's guards aren't up to par. However, I'm truly grateful to your Dark Moon Pack for sparing Cassandra.” After Cyrus finished speaking, he helped Cassandra to her feet.
  • Cassandra paused momentarily, managing a weak smile. “Where's that jerk Quentin? I'm feeling so miserable, yet he couldn't even bother to come pick me up himself.”
  • “He mentioned wanting to surprise you, to celebrate your escape from hardship, and asked me to come pick you up first.” Cyrus carefully supported her, guiding her gently toward the outside. “Cassandra, please get in the car first. There's someone you must meet today. It's a matter of great importance.”
  • Seeing him acting all mysterious, Cassandra became curious, and she nodded in agreement.
  • Thaddeus stood still, watching the two of them leave intimately. A sudden pang of pain throbbed in his chest, leaving him to wonder when the side effects of breaking the bond would completely fade away.
