• The night was settling in as Ira prepared to rest for the day. The soft hum of the city outside her window was a comforting lullaby, lulling her into a state of relaxation. Just as she was about to surrender to the beckoning arms of sleep, a memory jolted her awake. It was Haiden’s call. She had almost forgotten about it in the hustle and bustle of the day.
• With a sense of urgency, she reached for her phone and quickly video-called Danielle’s number. The phone rang several times, each ring echoing in the quiet room. After what seemed like an eternity, Danielle picked up. Ira couldn’t help but chuckle as she greeted her friend, “Did I disturb your beauty sleep?” Her voice was filled with mirth, the laughter evident in her tone.
• Danielle, on the other end, responded with equal humor, “Not at all, Sophie and I just had dinner.” As she spoke, she moved her phone to show Sophie, who was sitting next to her. Sophie, always the lively one, chimed in loudly, “How’s it going at Alex’s apartment? Is it comfortable?”
