Chapter 7 The Alpha's Warning

  • Dustin’s POV
  • I didn’t see that coming.
  • Jack would have tried anything he could to reject Eloisa. I was expecting him to do that until the others decided to find him a female werewolf instead, then I no longer needed to hand Eloisa over to him. But who would have thought he’d accept her all of a sudden?
  • “That settles it then,” Tyron said, preparing to leave. “I have to go back to the borders right away, so I’ll be leaving now. I’m entrusting you to follow through the process,” he added, looking at me.
  • “Already? You don’t expect me to watch over these bastards, do you?” I groaned, just thinking about making sure Jack would get through his beast cycle safely while working with Spade who couldn’t think of anything else but his women, was already giving me too much headache.
  • “Hey, who are you calling a bastard?” Spade growled, looking defeated. It was no surprise he was interested in Eloisa. He always had room for a woman in his mind, and he never got tired of them somehow.
  • “What now? Are you going to cry that Jack finally decided to take Eloisa? Don’t expect that everything will go the way you wanted them to,” I hissed, turning back to him. I was only holding back since the others were here, but it was all Spade’s fault that Jack ended up agreeing to take Eloisa.
  • Crap! I wish I could just toss this womanizer back to his territory, but I remembered it would be better to use him as a shield tonight.
  • “You sounded like you don’t care at all when it’s your woman who was taken away from you,” Spade sneered.
  • I grinned. He was right, but I would never admit it. “Says who? I just found her by the road when I was on my way here. Do you think I’d waste my time on such a woman?”
  • Spade was taken aback for a moment before he erupted into laughter. “Hey, Jack. Did you hear that? This brat must be lying when he said she was clean. Are you sure you still want to spend the night with that human?”
  • Yeah, better. If Jack heard it, he might change his mind. Then we could find someone else for him. He was supposed to detest humans, so why would he accept Eloisa? Although I said she was a present for him, I didn’t mean it at all.
  • The truth was, the woman I planned to give Jack on his beast cycle ran away with her mate. I couldn’t understand why she had to lie about not having a mate and almost put me in a predicament I couldn’t resolve. Meeting Eloisa was a blessing, but after handing her over to Jack… It started to feel tight in my chest.
  • “Shut up, Spade. How long are you going to make a fuss about the present I received? You could ask Dustin if you want a new toy,” Jack grumbled, his hands still wrapped around Eloisa’s waist.
  • “I need to talk to her,” I said, facing Jack before pulling Eloisa to my side. “I have things to remind her of.”
  • Jack looked at me in the eyes before averting his gaze. “Do what you want,” he muttered.
  • I dragged Eloisa to the corner of the room, waiting for the others to leave before I talked. When the last elder and even Spade walked out of the conference hall, I lifted Eloisa’s and looked at her face.
  • She was shaking while holding back her tears.
  • “Are you that excited?” I scoffed, “You can’t keep shaking. You must be thinking you’re lucky to be with the handsome alpha, no?”
  • Eloisa pressed her lips together and turned her head to the side, avoiding my gaze. “You should have just killed me,” she whispered, but it didn’t escape my ear.
  • I cupped her face, making her look at me. “Not gonna happen. Why would I kill you when you can still be useful?”
  • Eloisa looked at me with hate, but her gaze slowly softened as if she had given up everything. “Fine. If that’s what you want. It’s not like I can do something about it, right? I won’t be here listening to you if I have the power to get out of this situation in the first place,” she said, looking up at me, a sad smile flashing across her pretty face.
  • Wait, when did I find her pretty? Ah, she was pretty… Pretty average.
  • “Good girl. I don’t think he would make the first move. In case he doesn’t do anything, you’ll have to take the lead,” I said, wiping her tears.
  • “I… I will do my best,” Eloisa gulped.
  • A wry smile formed on my lips. “Then, I’ll have the maids help you with the preparation. Do this, and I’ll guarantee you live the life you want after tonight,” I said, wiping her tears.
  • “Is that a promise?” Eloisa asked, her voice breaking.
  • I didn’t know what made her think I’d promise her that, but her sobbing face made her look even better and I nodded before I could realize it.
  • “Yes, it’s a promise,” I said, cursing myself inside my head.
  • Suddenly, she stopped crying and beamed at me. Her once tear-filled eyes were brimming with hope and joy.
  • “I’ll hold onto your words,” Eloisa whispered, looking down at her feet.
  • I didn’t know what to say, so I just hummed. “Then, you should do your best. The maids must be waiting outside. Don’t keep them waiting and listen to everything they say.”
  • Eloisa slowly nodded before heading out of the conference room, leaving me and Jack alone.
  • “You’re crazy,” Jack commented, his fierce eyes locking into mine.
  • “What? I’ve secured a woman to help with your needs. Make sure not to kill her. I said she’s a gift, but only for tonight,” I said, making myself clear.
  • “Brat,” Jack snarled. “Send her away if you don’t want her to die in my hands.”
  • I shook my head, taking Eloisa back after he agreed to have her would make me a laughing stock among them, especially that Winter guy. He would always use anything he could to make fun of me and everyone else for his entertainment.
  • “I can’t do that,” I replied. “Instead, make sure you don’t kill her. It won’t be nice to ruin something that does not completely belong to you. Listen, Jack. I’m only letting you borrow her once, Jack.”
  • He looked at me with confusion spread across his face. “But she’s a gift, what are you saying now?”
  • I walked toward him, keeping eye contact. “Simple,” I said, tilting my head to the side. “She is mine.”
