Chapter 2 The Serendipity
- Eloisa’s POV
- I gulped, swallowing the lump in my throat hard. I didn’t expect there were thieves among werewolves too.
- “W-What do you want? I-If you’re trying to steal something, you’re in the wrong place,” I stammered, facing his fierce gaze. “I—I got nothing here!”
- The beast took a step forward, slowly closing the gap between us.
- “I—I already told you! I got nothing—Ah!” I closed my eyes when my back hit the wall. The door was locked, so it was impossible to escape… Unless I was crazy to jump out of the window where this creature entered.
- “Answer me. Who are you?” For the second time, he demanded.
- “S-Seventy two,” I replied, hugging myself. He could kill me any second, and I wouldn’t be able to do anything. It was at that moment I realized the huge difference in power between a werewolf and a human. No wonder the humans lost the war.
- “That’s your name?” he growled, placing his hands on either side of my head, trapping me in the corner of the small room. It was only my first night leaving the cell, and I already had to face this ordeal.
- “Are you kidding me?” He grumbled, his eyes fiercely locked on mine. “There’s no way that’s your name,” he snarled, leaning forward, his warm breath fanning my face.
- “B-But that’s what Mama called me,” I replied, holding back the urge to pee in my pants.
- The beast quietly stared at me. He lifted my face with his hand, his eyes moving down my lips.
- “Are you afraid of me?” He asked, his fingers pressing on my chin.
- I was looking at a werewolf who seemed more powerful than the others I had seen before, who wouldn’t be afraid to face this creature? I was about to nod my head when I heard him groan. He let go of me and held his head with both hands, gritting his teeth in pain.
- “I’m not afraid of you,” I said, taking a step away while keeping my gaze on him. “W-What’s happening? Are you sick?” I asked although I didn’t care the least. He could go down and leave me alone, instead of coming and threatening me with his scary appearance. There was no way he came here for a midnight chart—a midnight snack, maybe.
- I heard that they devour their prey whole, and with my size, this guy here could eat me alive.
- “Ugh! Not yet,” he groaned, falling on his knees, his hands still holding his head. “This is crazy,” he huffed, earning a nod from me.
- It was indeed crazy. Everything has been crazy since they came!
- “Eh—Eh?! W-What are you doing?!” I stuttered, finding myself pressed down on the bed. I thought I could get away, but he suddenly got up and grabbed me before throwing himself on top of me on the bed.
- “You smell very nice, do you know that? What did you do to smell like this?” He sniffed me on my neck, filling his lungs with my ‘nice’ scent. “Answer me,” he demanded.
- “I—I don’t know!” I stammered my heart racing. The intensity in his eyes made it clear he wasn’t satisfied with my answer. The situation felt dangerously intimate and terrifyingly inescapable.
- He gasped, his lips touching my skin, moving his head down to my shoulder blades. “Liar,” he whispered, his voice a low growl. “Are you trying to get my attention? If yes, then you win.”
- I could hear his heartbeat, loud and fast, like drums pounding inside his chest.
- “H-Hey! Stay away from me!” I pushed him, but he grabbed my hand and bit on it.
- “AH!” I yelped, pulling my arm away, an excruciating pain spreading through my veins.
- “What have you done?” I whispered, my body slowly giving up to the pain. “You beast!”
- Suddenly, he stopped. His gaze intensified at my choice of words. “You think I’m a beast, huh? After alluring me with that scent of yours, you’re rejecting my advances?” His condescending tone irked me, but my wound was too painful for me to retort.
- “You’re lucky that I don’t have enough time,” he smirked, his appearance gradually turning back to human form. “This isn’t the time yet. I’ll be back,” he said, before disappearing in front of me.
- I fell on my knees, my lips quivered as my body shook in shock. “What was that?” I muttered, rubbing my pained arm.
- As the midnight breeze filled the room, I looked outside and was greeted by the huge and imperfectly round moon.
- A sigh of relief escaped my mouth as I breathed in and out deeply. Just when I thought everything was fine again, a throbbing pain spread in my chest, making me unable to breath.
- “H-Help,” I cried, clutching my chest while desperately reaching out for no one.
- Slowly, the pain flooded my entire being, and while my consciousness faded, the moon seemed to be smiling at me.
- “72! Wake up, 72!”
- I woke up to Mama’s voice and jolted from the bed. I looked around to make sure we were the only ones in the room.
- What happened last night felt like a dream. If possible, I'd like to stay in a different room. Perhaps Mama would understand if I told her about my horrific experience.
- “It’s not hurting anymore,” I mumbled, gently rubbing my chest. I was certain it wasn’t just a dream. The pain was too much to be just my imagination either.
- “Ah! It’s gone,” I gasped, looking at my arm that the mysterious werewolf bitten. I clearly saw a mark on my arm last night.
- “What are you still waiting for?! The buyer’s already waiting outside. Give me your arm,” Mama demanded, reaching out for my arm.
- “No need to get changed. The buyer’s already waiting. Just let me put this on you,” Mama added, wearing a bracelet around my wrist.
- It was to monitor our location in case we tried to escape. The girls in the underground prison also said that it could electrify the wearer.
- I was about to say something when Mama glowered at me with her eyes narrowed. “I appreciate it if you don’t speak when not asked, 72.”
- Mama tucked the strands of my brown hair behind my ears as she beamed at my face. “Don’t worry, 72. I found you a good master. Stop shaking and be composed, do you understand?”
- Nodding was my only response, otherwise, Mama would have hit me if I showed a hint of disagreement.
- “Good. Let’s go,” she said before leading the way to the drawing room. A man with a beard, grinning like he won the lottery for the nth time, was waiting for us.
- “Woah! She’s wonderful. I can’t wait to take her home,” the man commented, looking at me lasciviously. “I’ve sent the amount to your account. I will add an extra later after giving it a try.”
- “And a five-star review, Sir Barrio. Please don’t forget to rate my shop after enjoying the goods,” Mama added, handing him the remote to my bracelet. She turned to me and smiled sweetly. “Off you go, little bunny. Remember the rules. Do not embarrass your Mama.”
- Mama gestured for me to come close to her and whispered, “He’s serving an alpha so be careful. You’ll have a chance to live lavishly if you follow him obediently.” She pushed me toward the huge man and clasped her hands together, grinning ugly.
- “Hmm. You smell like a fresh budding flower,” the man muttered, holding me by the arm. “We’ll take our leave now. Remember our deal, nobody should know I came here.”
- “Certainly,” Mama waved to us with a winning smirk.
- “Hurry up! It’s going to be troublesome if someone sees me around this area,” my buyer grumbled, dragging me to keep up with his pace, frequently checking the surroundings as we headed to his gray car.
- I looked around, everything outside seemed to change. It was hard to find a safe place knowing nothing about the current society. But I rather take a chance than become a slave of this despicable race.
- “We’re almost there. Walk faster, will you? Hey—!”
- Using every ounce of my strength, I pushed the man away and ran across the street. Anywhere was fine but in the arms of that man.
- “Idiot human! Stop right there!”
- My wrist started to itch and in the next second, I fell on the ground while shaking due to an electric shock. The rumors about the bracelet were indeed true.
- Slaves who were bought were treated as sex dolls by their masters and were discarded when they could no longer satisfy their desires.
- “There’s no way I’ll let myself become one,” I mumbled under my breath as I desperately moved my body while my supposedly master sauntered in my direction.
- My hopes revived when I saw a fast-approaching car heading to me. If I’d die, even werewolves couldn’t bring me back to life to punish me.
- “Watch out!”
- I grinned while spreading my arms, waiting for the car to run over me. Smiling at the clear sky before shutting my eyes, I awaited my death.
- However, my hopes faded when the car stopped a few inches away from me. I opened my eyes and glared at the man who squatted next to me, a frown on his face.
- “Silly, are you trying to get me involved in your suicide plan?”
