• Jack’s expression shifted from shock to anger in seconds after what I had to say. He wasn’t happy about it, but it didn’t concern me at all. I was more curious to see Eloisa’s reaction instead. After all, whatever Jack would say, it wouldn’t change the contents of the agreement I had with Eloisa.
• “Spade…” Jack’s voice was quiet and low like a beast holding back from plunging at his prey. “I didn’t know when you learned how to make a joke, but you’ll have to reconsider doing it again next time. It’s not funny at all.”
