Chapter 3 Your Wife's Funeral
- When Selena got to the door, one of the suited men helped her to remove her handcuffs. She ran her hand through her hair once she was freed. "I'll remember you," she said dramatically. Then, she walked off with her high heels clicking against the ground. The woman's icy words left Dimitri's assistant stunned. Did she disagree with Mr. Hayden's offer? Are we still going to see Miss Young in the future? No way! We were just following the president's orders!
- Selena was right—Jason did track her down to Hayden Group. His driver picked her up from the lobby and brought her back to Hayden Residence. Selena was just about to enter the house when she heard an angry voice coming from inside. "Serena grew up in a poor village, Dad. I bet any random woman from Astonville who's interested in Dimitri is better than her. Why does my son have to get married to her? I disagree with this!" The voice belonged to Alice Monroe.
- Jason responded in a firm voice. "Bob and I agreed to this marriage years ago, and I promised to care for his granddaughter after he left. This engagement has to happen," he insisted. The smile on Selena's face grew wider when she heard Jason's words. Jason's eyes lit up the moment he saw the well-dressed lady by the front door. "You must be Serena! You've really grown into a beautiful lady. I'm Jason," he said.
- Ever since the Youngs' business collapsed, Serena's grandmother brought her back to the village. No one had seen Serena since then. "Hello, Old Mr. Hayden and Mrs. Hayden," Selena greeted with a smile. Alice simply let out a scoff before she ignored Selena and headed upstairs. It was obvious that Alice didn't welcome her.
- Jason, on the other hand, dragged Selena over to sit on the couch. "I heard Dimitri took you over to meet him earlier. He didn't do anything to you, did he?" Selena shook her head. "Don’t worry about him. You can tell me if he ever bullies you, and I'll make sure to punish him for it," Jason offered. He was a lot friendlier in comparison to some other hostile members in the house. After a short catch-up, Jason got the maids to lead Selena to her room.
- The next day, their engagement proceeded as planned. Selena was awakened by the maids early in the morning, and a few people came over to dress her up. When she looked in the mirror, she saw a woman with light makeup on. She had sharp features, and the light blue color of her dress made her skin seem especially fair. The stylist could barely take her eyes off Selena when she saw Selena smiling. Who is the one who says that Miss Young is ugly because she's from the village? She's way prettier than some of the rich ladies in Astonville! the stylist thought to herself.
- When Selena got downstairs, Dimitri was already waiting for her. Both of them headed to the hotel in the same car. When she saw the grim look on the man's face, she parted her lips to smile at him. "We're getting engaged today, Mr. Hayden. Why do you look like you're about to attend your wife's funeral?"
- Dimitri narrowed his eyes. "We're just getting engaged, Miss Young. It's not that easy for you to become Mrs. Hayden," he uttered.
- "We'll see," she replied. The car came to a halt outside a five-star hotel, and both the man and woman got out and walked into the event hall. The crowd turned their gazes over to the couple once the couple entered. Everyone knew how handsome Dimitri was, but they were dumbfounded when they saw the woman beside him.
