Chapter 1 The Village Girl
- "I bet you didn't know that I was the one Morgan fancied all along, Selena," Naomi Quinn said.
- "Yeah, Selena. You're so fat and ugly. What makes you think I'd ever like you?" Morgan Wright added.
- The harsh and malicious words made Selena Walsh feel like there were knives stabbing into her chest. The whole house was on fire, and the thick smoke made her eyes teary. Selena curled up in a corner, not saying a single word—it was not like she could speak anyway after they had forced the dumb potion down her throat.
- "You've missed your parents a lot, haven't you, Selena? Well, I'll send you over to reunite with them now! And soon, I'll send your precious little brother, Henry, to meet you too!" Morgan hissed.
- No! Morgan, Naomi, please! Leave Henry out of this. He doesn't know anything… Selena could only speak in her mind as she had lost her voice. It had been raining outside earlier on, but the rain had stopped, and the fire seemed to only grow bigger and fiercer. She could feel herself slowly slipping out of consciousness. If I survive this, I'm going to make sure you guys pay for what you've done, Naomi and Morgan!
- …
- Five years later, shocking news took over the headlines in town. 'The president of Hayden Group, Dimitri Hayden, will get engaged to Miss Young tomorrow,' the headlines read. Dimitri was only 23 years old, but he was already the president of Hayden Group. Rumors claimed that he was a heartless and stern man, but he always had other women pining for him. Three years ago, he took over the company, and he turned it into the top-earning organization in the whole world.
- Meanwhile, the Youngs' family business went downhill a long while ago, and Serena Young grew up with her grandmother in some village. How could a poor village girl like Serena have the courage and the confidence to hope for Dimitri, the richest man in the world, to be her husband?
- A woman held her luggage in one hand as she made her way out of the airport. The woman had a slim figure, and her features were so exquisite that it almost seemed like God had spent additional effort crafting her. Her loose curls hung around her neck, and the aura she gave off was so strong that it made others lose their breath. She looked like a superstar as she walked out of the customs.
- Selena's eyes glinted when she took a look at the headlines of the newspaper she was holding. A voice surfaced in her mind as she read the news. From today onward, you'll be Serena, Selena. Your goal is to make Dimitri fall for you. Selena tossed the newspaper into the bin before walking out of the airport. Before Jason Hayden could drop by to pick Selena, a black Maybach had already pulled up in front of her. "Miss Young, our president would like to invite you over to discuss some matter," the person in the car said.
