Chapter 7 He Cares Most About His Grandfather
- "Grandpa, I'm going to cook the pierogies. Please carry on." Amelia took a plate of pierogies from the table before turning and entering the kitchen.
- She felt awkward when the old man criticized Isaac before her.
- Wilfred glanced at his grandson, admonishing him disapprovingly, "Why are you staring blankly? Quickly go in and help her!" How infuriating!
- Isaac didn't want to aggravate his grandfather, so he could only enter the kitchen.
- He also felt awkward. "Um… Do you need help?"
- "It's alright. I'm just cooking the pierogies. It won't take long," Amelia said as she heated the water. "You can keep Grandpa company."
- Isaac was at a loss and didn't know whether to enter the kitchen or the living room.
- After a moment, Wilfred saw Isaac come out. "Grandpa, she said she doesn't need help."
- The old man didn't blame him. He told Isaac, "She might not need your help, but you must take the initiative to offer. Do you understand? This is how husbands and wives get along."
- Isaac was averse to the last few words but could only nod. "Yes, you're right, Grandpa."
- The old man was sitting precariously on the couch, leaning against his walking stick. He tried to play matchmaker and said, "When I came over, I saw her making pierogies for you. I think she's been busy the whole afternoon. She said she'll freeze them so you can eat them as a late-night snack. She's afraid that you work too hard."
- In the end, the old man added, "It's so hard to find such a good wife like Amelia. Cherish her well!"
- Isaac was slightly taken aback. He turned to open the refrigerator and saw that other than the different pierogies, a lot of food was inside. The fridge was filled with neatly arranged food.
- Mushrooms, tofu, tomatoes, corn, chicken, fish, meat…
- To be honest, his hardened heart was slightly stirred.
- It was because he hadn't felt affectionate warmth for many years. He had always longed for such tenderness.
- "The pierogies are done!"
- Soon, the girl in the apron carried out a plate of pierogies from the kitchen. He quickly shut the refrigerator door.
- "Isaac! Quickly help her carry it!" Wilfred was sharp and instructed Isaac. How infuriating! He's so oblivious!
- The man walked toward the kitchen and quickly carried out two plates of pierogies.
- Amelia took the utensils. "Come and try my food!" She was sure that the kitchen was used for the first time tonight.
- The pierogies were fragrant and warm. They were cooked to perfection as they floated in a broth. They looked good.
- Since Amelia had personally made them, Old Mr. Marrow kept praising her. "The pierogies are delicious. But today is a big day because you're legally married. When you're free next time, Isaac, you must take Lia out for a good meal!"
- "Alright, Grandpa." He promised.
- Isaac sat beside Wilfred. The pierogies were quite delicious, but he had complex feelings.
- Because he had recalled an experience eighteen years ago when he was five years old. His heart hurt slightly. It had something to do with the pierogies.
- He had never eaten pierogies for the past eighteen years.
- "I didn't know what stuffing you liked, so I made four types. But Grandpa said you eat everything, so I cooked the mushroom ones today." Amelia spoke to him pleasantly.
- He had saved her and her mother. She was grateful to him.
- "Mm." Isaac initially wanted to acknowledge her half-heartedly, but since his grandfather was around, he quickly added, "It's quite delicious. I like it."
- Old Mr. Marrow was delighted when he heard it. "If you like it, ask your wife to make more for you! Treat her well, so she'll be willing to do more for you!"
- Why is Grandpa so… Ah, I'll say less next time.
- After finishing the pierogies, the old man looked at his beloved grandson, who was standing up. "Isaac, wash the dishes since Lia made the pierogies! When you're married, you must distribute the household chores evenly to get along!"
- Isaac was startled. "Alright." Hence, he began to put away the dishes.
- "Grandpa…"
- "Don't say anything, Lia. Let him do it!"
- In short, Isaac wouldn't oppose his grandfather. The person Isaac cared about the most in the world was Wilfred.
- Amelia could only look at the perfectly dapper man.
- He was of remarkable height, and his slender fingers picked up the plates from the table before he turned and walked to the kitchen. He felt he wasn't suited for such affection.
- "Lia, come sit and chat with me!"
- The old man pulled the girl, who wanted to help, to sit on the couch. He said softly, "Don't feel sorry for him. Men should be trained to do house chores from the first day of marriage. Otherwise, he'll feel like you must serve him!"
