Chapter 6 Old Mr Marrow's Divine Intervention

  • Half an hour later.
  • Amelia returned from the supermarket with three big bags. Her fingers hurt from carrying the heavy groceries.
  • Before putting the groceries away, she shook her sore fingers, red from the pain.
  • After that, she put the chicken, duck, fish, brussels sprouts, mushrooms, and other food into the refrigerator. She arranged them neatly.
  • She also put the Worcestershire sauce, Italian dressing, Italian seasoning, vinegar, olive oil, and salt… in the kitchen.
  • After that, she put the newly bought apron on and took out four newly purchased bowls. She poured the ground minced meat into them.
  • She started to strip sweet corn kernels, dice carrots, and cut cilantro and mushrooms.
  • She planned to make pierogies and freeze them so it would be convenient to eat them as breakfast or a late-night snack.
  • She didn't know what stuffing Isaac liked or what food he didn't eat, so she attentively prepared four different pierogi fillings.
  • While making pierogies, she turned on the television and watched game shows. She used her time wisely so she wasn't bored.
  • After she had made four large trays of pierogies, she didn't have much stuffing left in the bowls. The doorbell rang.
  • She turned and was momentarily in a daze before she quickly rose to wash her hands. She quickly went to open the door doubtfully. "Grandpa?!"
  • She saw Old Mr. Marrow standing outside the door alone. He was smiling and holding a walking stick.
  • "Come in, Grandpa, please come in!" Amelia immediately opened the door and helped the old man in. "Wasn't the doctor going to discharge you tomorrow?"
  • "I'm happy my grandson is married, so I'm feeling better!" The old man was very energetic. He was holding a gift for her in his other hand. "Where's Isaac?"
  • "He… He's having a meeting in the office." Amelia came up with an excuse at random. She didn't know where he was.
  • "What?" The old man's face fell. It was almost six o'clock. He put the bag on the table and took out his cell phone to call Isaac.
  • "Grand…"
  • "Isaac Marrow, why are you having a meeting on your wedding night? Quickly come home!" Old Mr. Marrow was angry, and his voice was stern.
  • When he put down his cell phone, he beamed again. He picked up the bag and handed it to the girl before him. "Lia, this is a wedding gift from Isaac. He left it in Marrow Manor. See if you like it."
  • Amelia accepted it happily to please the old man. "Thank you, Grandpa. I'll appreciate anything from him."
  • "Such a considerate, good girl." The old man praised her.
  • He noticed the apron around her and saw the pierogies on the table, along with the remaining dough and stuffing.
  • He took two steps forward. He was initially surprised and then overjoyed. "Lia, did you make these?"
  • "Yes, Grandpa."
  • The girl answered with a smile. She turned to put the gift to one side. "He has nothing in his refrigerator, so I made some pierogies. When we're hungry, it can fill us up. After all, it's healthier than buying quick-frozen pierogies."
  • The old man was touched. "This fellow married a wise, kind, and good girl!"
  • "Grandpa, is there anything Isaac doesn't eat? I made four different stuffings. There should be at least one he likes, right?" The girl poured a glass of warm water. "Grandpa, have a glass of water and sit on the couch. I'll finish up here."
  • "Alright, alright." The old man took the glass. "He eats everything! There isn't anything he doesn't eat."
  • "That's good."
  • Old Mr. Marrow chatted with his granddaughter-in-law for a while. Meanwhile, Isaac rushed home. He entered the house, and Wilfred showered down criticism on him before he could explain.
  • "Don't get angry, Grandpa. It's bad for your health." Amelia immediately intervened. She smiled as she covered it up. "It's a special occasion today. Isaac promised to come home earlier. He would've come home even if you didn't call him."
  • The old man was afraid his beloved grandson would stay out all night and leave his newlywed wife in an empty house, so he had deliberately left the hospital earlier. He had to ensure they spent the night together!
