Chapter 11 What Do You Have?

  • "Mom, you're really smart!" Lucas grinned and flattered.
  • Seeing him like this, Rosalie and Heidi exchanged mocking glances, with the latter sneering. "As we expected."
  • Heidi then looked at Lucas with disdain and mocked, "Do you know why Celine chose you? Because you're useless and pathetic enough!"
  • As the words fell, Lucas eyes narrowed slightly as he took a deep drag from his cigarette and slowly exhaled.
  • "I ... know!"
  • "You know?"
  • Heidi and Rosalie were both taken aback by Lucas' slow response.
  • The next second, Rosalie looked at him with disgust. "Since you know, why do you look so smug and pleased? My daughter must be blind to have chosen such a useless person."
  • As she spoke, she pointed at Lucas and said to Heidi, "Look at what Celine has found—a man who can't even sit properly. He's a little punk! I can barely stand to look at him!
  • "I'm going to check on her."
  • With that, Rosalie went straight upstairs as if looking at Lucas would dirty her eyes.
  • In an instant, only Lucas and Heidi were left in the living room.
  • "Heidi, aren't you going up?" Lucas asked with a smile.
  • Heidi wore a cold expression as if Lucas owed her a billion dollars. "Don't get too pleased with yourself. Don't think that your relationship with Celine is set in stone!"
  • "Hehe! Girl, do you really look down on me this much? I'd like to know what kind of man would be worthy of Celine? Hmm?" Lucas asked while blowing out smoke rings.
  • Hearing this, Heidi snorted coldly. "A good-for-nothing like you, with no background, definitely isn't worthy!"
  • "You're wrong!"
  • As soon as she finished speaking, Lucas extinguished his cigarette butt, exhaled two words, then leaned back and crossed his legs. "I may not have a background, but I'm certainly not a good-for-nothing."
  • He continued dismissively, "Moreover, in my opinion, while having a background isn't a shameful thing, it's definitely not something to brag about."
  • Heidi raised her eyebrows, looking at Lucas' serious demeanor, and subconsciously asked, "Oh? Why's that?"
  • In her circle, everyone valued backgrounds.
  • If your family background is good and your family is powerful, people will respect you. If someone knows you have no background, they won't hesitate to step on you.
  • So when Heidi heard Lucas speak so disdainfully about backgrounds, she became a bit curious.
  • "Because a background is something given by the family. What I have is the land! It's something I fought for myself!"
  • A flash of brilliance sparkled in Lucas' eyes as he declared resolutely.
  • In that instant, Heidi felt a sense of dominance emanating from this seemingly rogue man, making her heart skip a beat.
  • Adjusting her delicate glasses, Heidi secretly scolded herself, thinking, How could I be unsettled by a good-for-nothing?
  • After steadying herself, she scoffed, "You talk like it's a fact! Do you know what kind of man is the most despised? It's someone like you—capable of little but boasting a lot. Land? Don't you think you're being ridiculous?"
  • Lucas responded with a casual "Oh" and a chuckle.
  • "It is a bit ridiculous, huh? Why am I discussing this with a woman?"
  • Of course, the so-called land that Lucas mentioned was by no means empty bravado!
  • Without even touching on his status and power in the Daralian Kingdom, the forces he built during his missions around the world over the years would indeed qualify as a land.
  • He had formed mercenaries overseas, established assassin organizations, and even manipulated the situations in certain regions from behind the scenes!
  • To put it simply, the Blood Shadow Mercenary Corps, ranked fourth globally, was actually controlled by him, the Shadow Demon, Lucas!
  • So when Lucas said he had his own land, it was not an exaggeration at all!
  • However, he had no need to explain this in detail to Heidi.
  • But he was reluctant to elaborate, while Heidi was determined not to let him off easily.
  • This seemingly intellectual and elegant woman, who was just as proud as Celine at heart, appeared determined to completely psychologically crush Lucas, making him doubt his worthiness for Celine.
  • "Alright, let's take a step back. A man may lack a background and not rely on his family, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. As long as he has some skills, he can still be considered an outstanding man. But what do you have?"
  • At this point, Heidi raised her hand. "Don't tell me it's your combat skills. A man with strong arms but a simple mind is only fit to be used by others. I ask you, what's your education?"
  • It's worth mentioning that Celine's cousin had an academic background that was rather impressive.
  • She had been a top student since childhood and was now pursuing dual PhDs at Demonia University.
