Chapter 5

  • Izzy’s P.O.V.
  • I am a few hours away from the Golden Star Pack, when the sun starts to come up. “Should we stick to our routine or not?” I ask Evie.
  • She doesn’t answer me right away. “Stick to the routine. We are more likely to catch her at home in the evening.” I agree with her and start looking for a place to rest.
  • To my left I see a dense forest and decide to take a look. After half an hour I find a huge tree, the further I look up, the denser it becomes and I know I have found the ideal spot to rest my eyes for a while.
  • I climb the tree and I am already halfway up, when I spot the perfect place. The branches are thick and so close together that I can lay down to sleep for a while.
  • After getting comfortable I close my eyes and soon I drift off to sleep.
  • A cry for help wakes me up and from my spot in the tree I can see the person standing under the tree. I see three rogues surrounding a Human female and I do not think twice, I just jump down.
  • The first rogue is dead before anyone has time to realize what is happening.
  • The second one tries to put up a fight, but it is in vain. I am too fast and to well trained for him.
  • The third one is a bit bigger then I am, but that has never made me back away from a fight. He lunges at me, I step aside and I barely avoid his claw as he lashes out. It pisses of Evie, she pushes forward a bit and I swing my claw toward his neck, slashing it wide open.
  • Before he hits to ground he is dead, Evie gives me full control again and I turn toward the woman.
  • “Are you okay?” I ask the young woman in front of me. She nods her head, still looking terrified. I can smell the fear coming from her and I take a small step back.
  • “I am not going to hurt you. I just want to know that you are okay. Did they hurt you?” She shakes her head and then says quietly “Thank you for saving me. Why did you risk your live for me?”
  • I look at her and for a second I actually think she is kidding. But the look on her face tells me that she is serious.
  • I tell her that I took an oath to protect those that cannot protect themselves. That I am very well trained and that I am a Lycan, unlike those rogues.
  • Her eyes widen as I mention that I am a Lycan, but she stays where she is.
  • After getting my back-pack from the tree I introduce myself to the woman. She tells me her name is Christa and that she was on her way to see her Aunt when she ran in to those rogues.
  • “Where does your aunt live?” I ask her and I start smiling as she tells me that she is on her way to the Golden Star Pack. I tell that I am heading there as well and we decide to stick together.
  • Seeing that it is close to lunch-time I ask her if she knows a good place to go, she tells me there is a small bistro about half an hour down the road.
  • So we start walking and along the way we get to know one and other better.
  • Christa was raised by her parents and has an older brother. Her Aunt lives at the Golden Star Pack and works as a housekeeper for the Alpha.
  • Other than that she has no family, she is single and even though she is only twenty-two, she does not long for a family of her own.
  • “Well, you never know what the future may bring you.” I say and a smile spreads across her face.
  • We have lunch and then walk for a few more hours towards the Pack where her Aunt lives.
  • It is almost dinner-time when we arrive at our destination, the Guard recognizes her and lets us through without asking any questions.
  • I am puzzled because this is something that would get us in to real trouble with Alpha Maddox. We had to question everyone, who wanted to enter our land, even if they were accompanied by someone we knew.
  • Christa looks at me and asks me what is wrong. I know the Guard can hear me, when I tell her my thoughts and I hear a gasp behind me.
  • I know he is going to tell the Alpha what he overheard and from which Pack I am.
  • I walk next to Christa, when she points at a small cottage and tells me that that is where her Aunt Jean lives. I ask her how it is that her aunt works for a Pack of Werewolves, knowing that Humans usually stay far away from Werewolves and Lycans.
  • She tells me that about fourteen years ago her Aunt had found a pup and that it took a few days before she find out that the boy was a Werewolf and belonged to the Golden Star Pack.
  • Her Aunt had returned the boy home and Alpha Chris had told her that she could have anything as a reward. Her Aunt had asked for a job and a place to stay.
  • At first he had been reluctant until he found out that Jean had been attacked by her neighbors and family for helping Werewolves.
  • The only family member that had never ignored or mistreated her was Christa and for that reason Christa was free to come and go whenever she wanted.
  • And Jean had found a new family with the Golden Star Pack. Jean had raised the boy, named Peter, and he was a Warrior now. And Christa visited her as often as she could, because she felt at home here.
