Chapter 9 End of Party
- "Ah, yes, yes."
- Scott explained, saying, "Pardon for our behavior just now. This bead is a precious item that's not easily bought, even with money."
- "It is not just difficult to buy. It's also extraordinarily rare for us to even see one of these," Milton said, chiming in.
- "Yes, that is true."
- He continued, "This is a Celestial agate bead. The Celestial agate bead is the finest among agate beads. It can ward off all disasters, increase and enhance the wearer's empathy and authoritative aura while bringing great benefits to the wearer."
- Despite Scott's explanation, everyone still looked at him in confusion.
- "Just tell us its worth," Sean finally said.
- This was what everyone wanted to know. No matter how good an item was, if it was not valuable, it was still worthless.
- More importantly, Sean was eager to get a clarification on what Garrick had said earlier.
- Hence, he urged Scott and Milton to speak clearly and then move on.
- "Young people today like to measure things by their price."
- Milton smiled. "Scott, you should tell them what they care about most."
- Scott shook his head and said, "This Celestial agate bead is priceless."
- Priceless? What did he mean by that?
- Priceless implied that it was extremely precious and beyond any monetary measure. Its existence and significance were very unique.
- However, few people present understood this.
- They doubted Scott's words.
- Priceless might just mean that the person did not have enough money to afford a certain item.
- "It is not exactly priceless and more extremely valuable."
- As a businessman, Milton understood the crowd's mindset better. "A few years ago, a Celestial agate bead was put up for auction."
- Everyone quietly waited for Milton to continue.
- Garrick and Sean began to sense that something was off.
- Was it not just a bead? How did it turn into a Celestial agate bead after these two entered?
- It was absurd and too far-fetched.
- Janice was incredibly nervous. She had been prepared to be further ridiculed.
- Why were everyone's gazes different now?
- Among all present, only Clinton remained calm because he had taken the bead from Janice's storeroom.
- More importantly, he had given this gift to Janice himself. How could he not know?
- "The Celestial agate bead sold at that auction was not even as fine as this one."
- Milton continued, saying, "Even so, it was sold for 120 million."
- 120 million?
- Not as fine as this?
- What did this mean?
- It meant this Celestial agate bead was worth more than 120 million.
- Everyone was stunned. This inconspicuous bead was worth 120 million. Really?
- Janice was equally stunned. Where did Clinton get this bead? Isn't he just a security guard? If he really has 120 million, why will he need to be a guard?
- At that moment, Elizabeth raised her hand, wanting her bead back.
- The two elderly men reluctantly returned it to her and left after greeting everyone else.
- Chills had been running down everyone's spines the entire night.
- The first wave happened when they heard of the gift worth 300,000.
- Then, there was the gift worth 10 million.
- Now, there was a gift worth over 120 million. That was a great shock.
- More importantly, the first two gifts were counterfeits, while the last gift was the real deal.
- How could it not be? One of its appraisers was the curator of the Deelton Museum, and the other was a seasoned collector.
- At their age, they would not say anything that would end up embarrassing themselves.
- "Who exactly are you?"
- Sean finally could not hold back and asked Clinton the question that was on everyone's mind while pointing at him. "How did you end up here?"
- Everyone turned to look at Clinton.
- "Me?" Clinton calmly responded. "I am Janice's husband."
- "When did you two get married?" Sean furiously shouted out. "Why did I not know?"
- Just as Clinton was about to explain…
- Someone outside suddenly called out, "Gloria Group has sent the 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' painting by Johannes Vermeer as a gift. It has already been certified as genuine."
- Sean's vision went black, and he spat out a mouthful of blood before fainting.
- ...
- Everyone panicked, not knowing what to do about Sean's rage-induced collapse.
- Clinton slowly approached Sean.
- "Do you not know basic first aid?" He knelt by Sean and looked up at everyone. "You are all so pampered that you are useless now."
- Everyone was angry. If Clinton could criticize, he should have the ability to wake Sean up, too.
- "Clinton, I am telling you, if anything happens to Mr. Quinn, you will be held responsible."
- Garrick quickly tried to distance himself from the affair, afraid that the Quinn Family would blame him or even the Shaw Family.
- "Clinton, come over here."
- Janice anxiously called Clinton back. "Do not get involved."
- Deep down, she hoped Sean would remain in medical danger. If he became comatose, that would be the best outcome.
- That way, she would not have to avoid Sean anymore.
- "I am just waking up this beast. There will be no trouble."
- Clinton smiled. "He still owes me 500,000. He cannot be allowed to get hurt yet."
- What? Was he still thinking about the money?
- Was he so afraid of hardship that he now only cared about money?
- Everyone looked at Clinton with disdain.
- Clinton pressed hard on Sean's philtrum.
- What they did not see was that when he pressed on Sean's philtrum, a stream of inner energy entered Sean's body.
- Clinton's actions caused Sean to quickly wake up.
- Upon seeing himself lying on the ground, he remembered what had happened and swiftly got to his feet.
- "What are you doing?"
- Sean was still angry. As he pointed at Clinton, he asked, "Were you trying to kill me in front of everyone?"
- What? How could someone as shameless as Sean exist in the world?
- No wonder no one wanted to be a Good Samaritan anymore.
- Janice could not believe Sean's actions.
- However, others were delighted to see Sean's anger, especially Garrick.
- The more Sean and Clinton clashed, the happier he was.
- "If I wanted to kill you, would you still be alive?" Clinton dismissively responded.
- "Wait and see. I will make you regret crossing me." Sean then turned to Janice. "Then, there's you. I pursued you for three years, and you cheated on me. You are unbelievable!"
- 'Cheat? Don't push too hard!' Janice screamed internally but said nothing.
- Whatever she said, Sean would still despise her.
- Still, at least he now knew she was married.
- Sean was done and about to leave Shaw Manor.
- "Mr. Quinn, wait! I..."
- Garrick chased after Sean, but before he could finish his sentence, Sean said, "There's also you. You used me as a tool. Expect retaliation from my family after this."
- With that, Sean left.
- ...
- After that, everyone dispersed.
- Janice did not even stay for the meal and left Shaw Manor with Clinton by her side.
- After all, she had paid her respects to Elizabeth. Staying at Shaw Manor would only subject her to more attacks from the Shaw Family members.
