Chapter 6 It is Obviously a Fake

  • "What is going on? Did the vase break?"
  • Elizabeth, who had poor hearing, heard the noise. She looked at the fragments on the ground and said, "It is no big deal. I have other vases for flower arranging. Do not be upset about it."
  • Upon hearing that, Johnson and Garrick's faces twitched.
  • Janice did not know whether to be angry or to laugh.
  • At that moment, Clinton calmly walked over and picked up a piece of the shattered vase from the ground.
  • "The inner wall of a royal tribute item from the past has words written on it."
  • Clinton smiled. "The writing is even in modern spelling. Incredible.
  • "It was worth over three million."
  • At first, everyone did not react, but soon, someone sensed something was off about that statement.
  • Someone quickly caught on.
  • "There is writing on the inner wall of the vase, and it is in modern spelling. How? Modern spelling was only recently standardized."
  • "What? Does that mean the porcelain vase is fake?"
  • "Fake? Does that mean Garrick was swindled? It was over three million."
  • "Someone had the nerve to cheat him! Garrick, you absolutely must not let them get away with it!"
  • ...
  • Everyone chimed in with their own opinions.
  • Garrick's face suddenly turned pale.
  • He did not expect the item he bought for over three million to be a fake.
  • Even worse, he had broken it himself.
  • He wanted to seek justice from the seller, but he did not dare.
  • The seller was a well-known heir in Naporia.
  • Besides, the industry rule was that once bought, there were no refunds, and no need to take responsibility afterward.
  • Garrick felt a pang of pain.
  • Likewise, Johnson was distressed. The party had been ruined by Clinton.
  • It was all Clinton's fault. If not for him, the porcelain vase would not have fallen, and Garrick would not have been embarrassed.
  • Yes, in their minds, the culprit was Clinton.
  • "The heir of the Quinn Family has arrived!"
  • Just as Garrick was thinking of how to deal with Clinton, a voice called from outside.
  • "Wow, I did not expect Mr. Quinn to come himself. This is fantastic."
  • "Of course, he is a regular visitor to the Shaw Family."
  • "The important thing is that there is someone among us he cares about."
  • Everyone looked at Janice and laughed, completely forgetting about Clinton.
  • Garrick's face also changed color from the previously pale pallor as he thought of something and regained his composure.
  • Janice, however, felt different. Apart from the family members who forced her into marriage, the person she disliked most was Sean.
  • Rather, her marriage to Clinton was primarily because of him.
  • Her expression turned sour because she did not want to see Sean.
  • Clinton gently squeezed Janice's hand, making her entire body shudder.
  • She did not expect Clinton to be so bold as to hold her hand.
  • The agreement clearly stated that without her permission, he was not allowed to touch her.
  • Still, Janice understood that Clinton was trying to encourage her, so she temporarily let it slide.
  • Janice glanced at Clinton, then withdrew her hand with her facial expression returning to normal.
  • Clinton did not mind. He even brought the hand he used to hold Janice's hand up to his nose and sniffed it.
  • He then whispered in Janice's ear, "It smells nice."
  • Janice really wanted to hit him.
  • How could he be in the mood to tease her?
  • He truly seemed like a beggar and a rascal.
  • As Clinton watched this parade of clowns, he was rendered speechless.
  • "Great-Grandma, I am here to wish you a happy birthday!"
  • Even before he could be seen, Sean's voice was heard.
  • He felt really proud to see everyone standing around to greet him.
  • Recently, the Shaw Family had become like a second home to him. He visited every few days, coming and going freely, just to visit Janice.
  • He believed that by showing up so frequently, he would soon win her over.
  • "What is going on with you all? Even if you are welcoming me, you do not need to line up."
  • Sean chuckled. "Make way. I need to wish Great-Grandma a happy birthday first."
  • He called Elizabeth Great-Grandma so smoothly as if he were already half a member of the Shaw Family.
  • "Great-Grandma, happy birthday. I wish you a life as heavenly as the skies!"
  • Sean walked to Elizabeth. "I did not prepare much. I heard you used to love Johannes Vermeer's paintings, so I bought 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' from a friend to give to you. Please accept it."
  • "Haha! Thank you!"
  • Elizabeth remained the same, thanking him with the same line she had used.
  • Everyone let out a gasp.
  • They did not expect Sean to give Elizabeth "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer, his most famous masterpiece.
  • They never had the chance to see the painting before. Now, Sean had given it to Elizabeth and the Shaw Family.
  • This was good. That meant it became part of the Shaw Family's wealth. They might have a chance to see it again in the future.
  • Ha!
  • Everyone was preoccupied with their own thoughts of their futures.
  • "Mr. Quinn, you are indeed generous to present Johannes Vermeer's masterpiece."
  • Garrick hurried forward. "With such a great gift, how can anyone in the Shaw Family measure up?"
  • After saying that, he put on a bitter smile.
  • "It is nothing. Great-Grandma likes Johannes Vermeer, so I brought it over," Sean said.
  • "I must tell you, Great-Grandma does not particularly like Johannes Vermeer. She just likes the movie about the painting. You did not misunderstand, did you?" Garrick said.
  • "Ah? Really? Still, it is fine. It is just a painting," Sean said.
  • Sean remained indifferent as he continued, saying, "Besides, Great-Grandma can enjoy it whenever she wants."
  • "That painting must be very valuable, right?" Garrick finally asked what he truly wanted to know.
  • "Not much."
  • Sean proudly stated, "Just over ten million."
  • Everyone gasped again.
  • It was a painting worth over ten million, and Sean just gave it away.
  • He even said it was not worth much, and it was "just" over ten million.
  • The Quinn Family were indeed wealthy and generous gift-givers.
  • They could hand over a gift worth over ten million for no reason.
  • Impressive!
  • Anyway, it was now part of the Shaw Family's wealth. That was good.
  • The painting was unfurled, and everyone gathered around to admire it.
  • Though they did not know how to appreciate it, they wanted to see what was special about a painting worth over ten million.
  • Janice and Clinton stood at the edge of the crowd and did not move to admire it up close.
  • Janice did not want to.
  • Clinton did not care.
  • "Why don't you want to look at it?" Janice asked Clinton. "That is a painting worth over ten million."
  • Then, she realized how unnecessary her question was.
  • Clinton was a security guard. How could he appreciate art?
  • "It is obviously a fake," Clinton replied. "What is there to see?"
  • Clinton's words were overheard by Garrick.
  • He still had unfinished business with Clinton. Now, he had overheard something that he could use.
  • A plan formed in his mind.
