Chapter 11 Sean's Uncle, Cohen Dunn

  • "Mr. Hawke, are you okay? Are you feeling unwell?" Harvey's sudden question jolted Lucian out of his daze.
  • The noise caught the attention of the three people in the hospital ward.
  • Helen turned around and noticed them. She was startled and hurriedly approached them. "Mr. Yale, what are you doing here?"
  • Before Harvey could answer, Lucian interjected with a chuckle. "Who knew Deelton Hospital had such hidden talents." He smiled and continued, "Some of these doctors here seem to have more authority than you, Mr. Yale."
  • Harvey's expression darkened. If Lucian, the city's wealthiest man, spread such remarks, Harvey knew it could undermine his credibility. Despite Lucian's non-political stance, his influence in Deelton was immense. He held enough sway to remove Harvey from his position.
  • "Who do you think you are? You can't just say anything you want here," Helen retorted sharply. She was unfamiliar with Lucian, the city's wealthiest man, and she wanted to clarify her earlier remarks with Harvey. Lucian's provocative remarks only added to her annoyance.
  • "Haha!" Lucian laughed. He was unfazed by that.
  • However, Harvey was furious. "Helen, do you realize the gravity of your mistake?"
  • "Mr. Yale, I know I messed up. I spoke without thinking. Please don't take it to heart." She regretted what she had said earlier. If she had known Harvey would be passing by, she never would have said such a thing. Despite advancing partially due to her appearance, she did possess skills.
  • But Harvey's expression shifted between anger and frustration. Harvey might have let her off lightly if Lucian wasn't present. But now, he felt compelled to take a stand. Being a public hospital, they couldn't dismiss someone without a reason.
  • "You acted impulsively as an attending doctor and treated the patient's family poorly." Harvey stated decisively, "As a result, I've decided to demote you. You will no longer serve as an attending doctor. Instead, you'll be transitioning to an intern role."
  • Helen was shocked by his decision. She had put in so much effort to become an attending doctor, only to begin anew because of one careless moment. She felt resentful of the punishment. She had made numerous sacrifices to reach this position, enduring hardships and mistreatment. The idea of having to go through it all again was frightening.
  • "Mr. Yale, I admit I made a mistake. Please give me another chance." She suddenly kneeled and cried, "I promise I won't mess up again."
  • "If I hadn't given you a chance, you'd have been fired. Remember that." Harvey remained composed since he had already made up his mind.
  • While they were talking, Lucian's eyes gleamed with anticipation. He felt an urge to approach and greet Clinton.
  • Clinton noticed Lucian's excitement and subtly signaled to him.
  • Lucian understood the sign. Their first meeting was sealed with this silent exchange.
  • As Janice and Clinton departed the hospital, Lucian enthusiastically handed Janice his card. She hesitated and was confused by the gesture. So, she accepted it and thought it was simply his polite gesture.
  • Unbeknownst to her, Lucian's actions were all because of Clinton's.
  • Helen's demotion came as a bitter blow. Despite her reluctance, she accepted it to fulfill her mission. As she processed the news, a sudden recollection jolted her. She quickly returned to the infirmary to retrieve a syringe and headed to Terry's room. Her heart pulsated with a mixture of anger and bitterness.
  • ...
  • Meanwhile, Elizabeth's birthday banquet had just concluded.
  • Johnson's stern face betrayed his frustration inside the room as he turned to Garrick. "Hurry up and tell me what happened earlier. How did Mr. Quinn end up in that state?"
  • It was supposed to be Elizabeth's birthday, and Johnson had hoped to curry favor with the Quinn Family and impress his friends. Plus, he had even planned to arrange Janice and Sean's marriage during the banquet despite their strained relationship. However, Sean's sudden collapse and subsequent departure in anger had caught Johnson off guard. His meticulously crafted plans were thrown off course.
  • Garrick recounted the events and continued, "Dad, it's clear Janice brought Clinton to stir up trouble. They've also offended Mr. Quinn."
  • "Hmph! Regardless of what she did, she must marry Mr. Quinn." Johnson thought momentarily and continued, "But right now, our priority is smoothing things over with the Quinn Family."
  • "Since this is all Janice's doing, we should blame her." Garrick fanned the flames. "If we shift the blame to her and kill Clinton, everything will be resolved."
  • "I'll let you handle this matter. First, go to the Quinn Residence and smooth things over." Johnson continued, "We must ensure the Quinn Family's anger shifts to Janice and Clinton."
  • "Yes, Dad." Garrick left after saying that.
  • ...
  • "Uncle Cohen, you must avenge me."
  • After the incident at Shaw Manor, Sean didn't go home right away. Instead, he went to a bar—the headquarters of the Tiger Head Gang in Deelton. The gang was led by Sean's uncle, Cohen Dunn.
  • Cohen was renowned in Deelton for his ferocity and strength like a raging tiger. Locals whispered, "It's safer to break the law than to cross Cohen Dunn." That was how fearsome he was. He settled scores and stood by his family, regardless of who was right.
  • "Sean, what's happened to you?" Cohen quickly approached upon seeing his distraught expression.
  • " I've been set up and humiliated," Sean explained as he recounted the events.
  • "Clinton cheated me out of thirty million." Sean exaggerated his distress. "And he even tried to force me into buying those fake paintings. When I refused, he threatened me and demanded another twenty million within three days."
  • He continued, "I even kneeled down to apologize, but he wouldn't relent. It's not just an insult to me, but to our entire family and even your reputation, Uncle Cohen. You must avenge me."
  • "Don't worry. I'll handle this." Cohen was furious upon learning that someone had dared to cross his family. "I'll mobilize my people immediately to kill them."
  • "Uncle Cohen, Janice is my fiancee," Sean hastily added because he feared she would be harmed. "Just make sure Clinton suffers. I want him to beg for mercy in front of me."
  • "Got it." Cohen laughed. Then, he looked at Sean with a knowing smile. "A refined and graceful lady is a perfect match for a gentleman. Haha, I understand. And I've already decided what to do with Clinton." With that, he made a call to set his plans in motion.
