Chapter 7 There Is Still a Chance

  • "Mr. Quinn." Garrick suddenly spoke up. "Someone is saying that your painting is fake."
  • "Hmm? Who?"
  • Sean looked around. "Who dares to say the painting I brought is fake? If it is fake, I will eat it on the spot."
  • "I said it," Clinton calmly replied.
  • Janice was scared. She feared Sean would take his anger out on Clinton.
  • The Quinn Family was wealthy and powerful. How could they send a fake painting and risk being laughed at? If word got out, the Quinn Family would be disgraced!
  • Clinton was looking for trouble.
  • Garrick was pleased. He thought Clinton would deny it, so he was surprised to hear Clinton admitting to it.
  • This saved Garrick a lot of effort.
  • "How dare you! Mr. Quinn would never bring a fake gift."
  • Garrick immediately stood up and scolded Clinton, "Apologize to Mr. Quinn right now, or you will suffer the consequences."
  • On the surface, he was pleading on Clinton's behalf, but in reality, his words were meant to stoke Sean's anger even further.
  • "An apology is unnecessary."
  • Sure enough, Sean glared at Clinton. "If you cannot prove the painting is fake, you will kneel and grandly apologize to me."
  • Sean had never met Clinton before. Still, from Clinton's ordinary attire, Sean assumed Clinton was a guest from another family.
  • If he was going to humiliate someone, he would make sure that person would be incredibly humiliated.
  • This was Sean's principle.
  • "Fine. If I prove it is fake, what will you do? Will you kneel and grandly apologize to me?" Clinton asked.
  • "Of course. Not only will I kneel and grandly apologize to you, but I will also eat the painting on the spot," Sean responded.
  • "Alright. It is a deal."
  • Garrick was delighted. They say opportunities were for the prepared.
  • Now was the best chance to strike at Clinton. Of course, he had to step in.
  • "Mr. Quinn, I think he should not only kneel but also pay a million in compensation for the mental distress." Garrick said, "Of course, the final decision is up to Mr. Quinn."
  • Sean agreed to the deal without hesitation.
  • Clinton had no objections.
  • Janice, however, regretted bringing Clinton. If he lost, where would the one million come from?
  • If Clinton lost, he would be despised by the Shaw Family and looked down upon by Sean.
  • Janice felt miserable but could not do anything.
  • Even if she spoke up, Garrick would not cancel the bet.
  • Clinton had already offended him yesterday.
  • If she did, Garrick and Sean might start a fight over it, and she would not be able to resolve it.
  • The only thing she could do was leave it to fate.
  • Clinton gave Janice a reassuring look and stood his ground.
  • When Sean saw Clinton's glance at Janice, his anger flared. He wanted to crush Clinton.
  • Janice was his. No one else was to touch her.
  • If he knew Janice and Clinton had gotten married yesterday, who knew what his reaction would be?
  • "Johannes Vermeer signs his paintings as Meer with a J merged in," Clinton slowly said. "However, the signature on this painting is 'Johannes Vermeer' in full."
  • "This fake is so obvious a three-year-old could tell, yet you still treated it like a treasure and gave it to Great-Grandma for her birthday. Haha!"
  • That was the last straw.
  • Did he think everyone present was a fool?
  • Everyone glared at Clinton, but since Sean had not spoken, they kept silent.
  • However, some doubted Clinton and quickly looked it up on their phones.
  • They reluctantly had to face the truth. Clinton was right.
  • Janice looked at Clinton in disbelief. She did not expect the truth to be so easily proven.
  • He also left everyone speechless.
  • It seemed he was right. Sean's painting was fake.
  • "Alright, you lost," Clinton said to Sean. "You must keep your promise."
  • "A-Are you sure you want me to kneel and grandly apologize to you?"
  • "Was that not our bet? Are you trying to back out?"
  • "You… Fine."
  • Sean pointed at Clinton in anger. "No one has ever made me kneel before. You are the first."
  • "There is a first time for everything." Clinton remained indifferent. "You will get used to it eventually."
  • "You..."
  • "No more words. Keep your word and do it."
  • Garrick did not expect Clinton to be so assertive. Did he not know the power of the Quinn Family?
  • Then again, Clinton was just a security guard. How could he know the Quinn Family's power?
  • Garrick was delighted. The more Clinton offended Sean, the more Clinton would suffer in the future.
  • Janice was also very nervous.
  • "Forget it." Janice took a few steps forward. "We will see each other often. It is better to go easy on each other."
  • Clinton looked at Janice's sincere expression and softened.
  • After all, today was Elizabeth's birthday.
  • It was one thing to kneel to Elizabeth, but it was a little too much to make Sean kneel to Clinton.
  • "Since Janice pleaded for you, I will spare you this time."
  • Clinton looked at Sean. "You do not have to kneel, but you still owe me a million. Pay up."
  • Sean's face turned purple.
  • In Deelton, no one dared to treat him like this. Clinton was the first.
  • "There are 500,000 in here."
  • He unwillingly threw a bank card to the ground, "The password is six sixes."
  • He was confident the card would return to him before Clinton could spend a single cent on it.
  • It was just temporarily being stored with Clinton.
  • "You still owe me another 500,000." Clinton picked up the card. "Make sure you pay up soon. I charge interest, and it is not low."
  • He handed the card to Janice. She hesitated, unsure whether to take it or not.
  • With everyone watching, what should she do? How would the Shaw Family view her? How would Sean treat her?
  • "This card is yours. I do not want it."
  • Even as she stared into Clinton's deep eyes, she still did not take it.
  • Sean glared at Clinton.
  • If looks could kill, Clinton would be riddled with holes.
  • Still, Sean also thought that as Janice spoke up for him, she still cared for him.
  • While he lost, he was happy that Janice pleaded for him.
  • Sean and Garrick both glared at Clinton.
  • The others in the Shaw Family were also angry.
  • The Quinn Family was a strong supporter of the Shaw Family. Offending them brought no benefit to them, yet Sean was angered at the Shaw Family's party.
  • They had originally planned on embarrassing Clinton, but they ended up embarrassing themselves and Sean.
  • Clinton walked over and grabbed Sean's gift.
  • Sean's eyes narrowed in thought.
  • Since he did not have to kneel, he hoped he would not have to eat the painting.
  • Deep down, Sean was shouting at Clinton. 'Kid, don't push your luck!'
  • "Since this painting is fake," Clinton said, "I will take it to use as firewood. The price of gas has been rising lately."
  • Everyone was shocked. Did Clinton really say that?
  • He just received 500,00, and now he was talking about how gas prices were rising.
  • Garrick thought, 'Clinton really is just a security guard. Even a fake painting is worth his time.'
  • In his eyes, it was typical lower-class behavior, which was petty, thick-skinned, and stingy.
  • Janice was also speechless.
  • 'This is another chance!' Garrick thought.
