Chapter 9 Finding Her

  • Adriana tossed the bag of clothes Jack had bought her onto the couch and turned on the computer in the room before pulling up a chair and sitting down.
  • She still remembered from her previous life that the problems occurring in Regency Crest Enterprises weren’t caused by mistakes or misconduct from the employees, but rather because Raymond had done it on purpose since the company was a dowry for her mother.
  • Raymond only wanted to use the pretense of bankruptcy to transfer all of the company's assets and shares to a dummy corporation he and Margaret had set up.
  • As soon as the computer was switched on, Adriana quickly opened the company’s website and accessed its system. Back then, she had learned basic hacking skills out of boredom but had never had the opportunity to practice them. Who would have thought those skills would come in handy now?
  • She checked the financial reports from the past few years and saved the evidence before clearing all traces of her intrusion.
  • Just as she was about to close the website, the piercing ringtone of a mobile phone suddenly echoed through the room, making her flinch in surprise. She instinctively looked in the direction of the sound and realized that it was coming from inside the bag.
  • Adriana immediately furrowed her brows before getting up and rummaging through the bag for the phone. When she found it, she glanced at the unfamiliar number on the screen and answered the call.
  • Jack's voice immediately came through. "Hello, Adriana, it's me, Jack. I'm calling to let you know that I've asked the restaurant downstairs to send lunch to you later today, so you don't have to bother coming downstairs." A smile could be heard in his voice as he said this. "If you need anything, you can call me anytime. I've set my number as the first on your speed dial."
  • Adriana rolled her eyes but still replied in a soft and gentle tone, "Jack, thank you so much. Other than my sister, no one has ever taken care of me like this before. I feel very lucky right now."
  • "Olivia and I are best friends. Her sister is my sister too." Jack’s smile widened, as if he could picture Adriana’s grateful expression.
  • Adriana was silent for a moment, pretending to be shy. After a few seconds, she finally spoke again, “In that case, will you protect me the same way you’ve protected my sister?”
  • Jack was immediately at a loss for words before he finally said reluctantly, "I will."
  • Adriana smiled in satisfaction and yawned deliberately, making an excuse that she wanted to sleep before ending the call.
  • Once the call ended, she tossed the phone back on the sofa.
  • The phone must have been slipped into the bag by Jack earlier when she was trying on her clothes, and she hadn’t even noticed it.
  • Buying her breakfast, getting her clothes, gifting her a phone, and now arranging lunch for her as well. It had to be said that Jack was a very thoughtful person. No wonder that even after Olivia got together with Sebastian, he still held her close to his heart.
  • With such a loyal dog like him fighting on her behalf, it was no wonder Olivia could always remain that pure, perfect white lotus.
  • Thoughtful or foolish? Either way, he would make an excellent pawn in her game of chess.
  • Adriana sat back in front of the computer and pulled out a sheet of paper and a pen from the drawer. She then jotted down the evidence she had uncovered earlier, her brows furrowing in thought.
  • The financial support Raymond had been hoping to secure from the Kingsley family had already been destroyed by her, giving him the perfect excuse to declare the company bankrupt. So, what could she do to prevent this from happening again?
  • Regency Crest Enterprises had been a wedding dowry from her grandfather to her mother. However, not long after giving birth, her mother had fallen into postpartum depression upon discovering that Raymond had been cheating. In despair, she had eventually jumped from a high building, ending her life.
  • With that, Raymond had effortlessly taken over Regency Crest Enterprises and become the CEO, and Adriana, his biological daughter, had become nothing more than his adopted child.
  • Heh.
  • Adriana laughed cynically at the thought. She shut off the computer and went to lie down on the bed. After a moment of contemplation, she picked up her phone again and dialed Isla's number.
  • She could try exposing Raymond's conspiracy, but in the end, she was just an 18-year-old high school student. Who would believe her?
  • If she wanted to fight him, she needed to find the lawyer who had drafted her mother’s will.
  • When the call connected, Adriana quickly lowered her voice and asked Isla if it was a convenient time to talk. Upon hearing a reassuring answer, she let out a sigh of relief and got straight to the point. "Isla, I need your help. Can you ask your brother to find someone for me? This person is very important to me."
  • She had no money and didn’t know where the lawyer was. Four years after discovering the truth about her mother’s death and about herself, the lawyer had already passed away.
  • "Who do you want him to find? Give me the details, and I’ll ask my brother to look into it," Isla agreed without hesitation. Adriana thanked her and hung up the phone. She immediately sent Isla all the information she knew about the lawyer.
  • Just as Adriana was about to lie down again, someone suddenly knocked on her door. The sound grew louder and more insistent the longer she didn’t open it.
  • Who could be knocking on her door at this hour?
  • Other than Jack, no one else knew she was staying here. Could it be the food delivery from the restaurant downstairs?
  • Adriana swallowed nervously and approached the door quietly like a cat.
  • Peering through the peephole, she saw that the person standing outside was Jasper. Her eyes widened, and she quickly opened the door. “Assistant Quinn? What are you doing here?"
  • "Young Master Kingsley is waiting for you downstairs. You have five minutes to pack," Jasper said expressionlessly.
  • Adriana pursed her lips and turned to pick up the bag of clothes Jack had bought for her, then calmly left the room with him.
  • Had Sebastian installed a tracking device on her?
  • If not, how did he know she was here?
  • The arrogant and dominant Knight XV was parked less than five meters from the hotel entrance, and the rear window was rolled halfway down, revealing Sebastian's handsome face.
  • Adriana took a deep breath and walked calmly towards the car.
  • Sebastian turned to her, his gaze sweeping over her body like an X-ray. With an indifferent expression, he said, "Throw it away."
  • Before Adriana could understand what he meant, Jasper, who had been following from behind, suddenly snatched the bag out of her hand and threw it into the nearby garbage can.
  • Adriana: "..."
  • "The room was booked by the young master of the Lawson family," Jasper said calmly.
  • Sebastian’s gaze darkened further, and Adriana’s body immediately shuddered. She could also feel her legs weakening.
  • Sebastian’s possessiveness was like that of a madman. He couldn’t possibly think she was having an affair with Jack, could he?
