Chapter 8 A Pure And Gentle Girl
- The morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow on Adriana’s body as she lay in bed. She sighed softly and slowly opened her eyes before pulling the blanket off her and getting out of bed.
- She couldn't sleep well at all last night. Her nightmares had disturbed her rest, making her wonder if this new life of hers was just a dream. Fortunately, it was real, and she had returned to the age of eighteen, the year when everything had just begun.
- After a quick shower, Adriana left the room to have breakfast but bumped into Isla, who was standing outside the door with a troubled expression.
- "Are your parents and grandparents on their way home?" Adriana asked with a smile. "It’s okay; I have a place to stay."
- "I'm sorry, Riana," Isla hugged her apologetically. "If I could, I’d want you to stay with me. But..."
- Adriana gently pushed her away. "No need to apologize. Are they almost here? I’m leaving right now."
- Isla pursed her lips and nodded. Her parents didn't object to her being friends with Adriana, but the only ones who disliked Adriana were her grandparents, and they were here to spend the weekend together.
- Adriana playfully ruffled Isla's hair and quickly walked down the stairs.
- She actually had nowhere to go.
- She couldn’t go back to the Hudson residence, and her dorm was closed for the holiday, with no one allowed in at the moment. She could only go back there tomorrow. As for Sebastian’s apartment, she didn’t have the key, and to be honest, she'd had enough of him for one day. Her waist was still aching from his rough lovemaking.
- After walking down the hill for a while, she suddenly heard the sound of a horn from behind her. Adriana turned around, and when she saw Jack’s car driving toward her, a bright smile instantly appeared on her face, and she ran to stop the car.
- Since he had shown up here again, and so early in the morning at that, he probably couldn't wait to send her to her death. Fine, she would play the game his way, for now.
- With a sharp screech, the white Range Rover suddenly came to a halt in front of her, and Jack jumped out of the car with a ferocious look on his face.
- “Jack...” Adriana looked up at him with a pitiful expression, her eyes already reddening as she spoke. “What took you so long to get here?”
- Jack was like a loyal dog to Olivia, always barging in and attacking someone on her behalf.
- Right now, Adriana had no foundation, no power, and no money, so she couldn’t afford to act recklessly or impulsively. She had to rely on her inner strength to escape their control, endure, and slowly rebuild her power to fight back one day.
- “Adriana?” Jack froze for a moment. The reprimand he was about to hurl at her suddenly caught in his throat, and he found himself unable to speak.
- The girl in front of him had a beautiful face as pure as an angel’s, and her dark, bright eyes resembled grapes that had been washed, wet with tears. She looked like a small, helpless kitten that had been abandoned by its owner, and seeing her like this stirred a protective feeling in his heart.
- Olivia had always said that Adriana was ugly and eccentric.
- In his memory, Adriana had been shy and timid. Every time they met when he visited Olivia, she would lower her neck like a turtle, too afraid to look up at him.
- If a girl as beautiful as this could be called ugly, then what would you call those who were truly ugly? Monsters?
- “I spent last night alone in the forest. I was so scared..." Adriana blinked, and tears began streaming down her face. Her peachy, rosy lips trembled slightly, not from the crying, but from the laughter.
- The bruise on Jack's face from the beating he received yesterday was still fresh, making him look almost comical, like a panda.
- Adriana had to make a lot of effort not to laugh.
- "Get in the car first. I'll take you to breakfast." Jack's heart softened a little, and he opened the car door for her with a considerate gesture.
- "Thank you, Jack." Adriana held back the urge to vomit and threw herself into his arms. Then she spoke in a choked voice. "You're such a good person. My sister is so lucky to have you."
- Jack's chest rose and fell rapidly as she hugged him, and he could smell the faint scent emanating from her body, making him lose his mind for a moment. She... was so soft.
- Adriana held him for only a moment before pulling away. Then she smiled at him and got into the car.
- Jack quickly glanced at his empty hands, a feeling of disappointment washing over him. After a while, he reluctantly took his seat behind the wheel.
- Adriana’s tears continued to stream down her face, like a broken dam, as she looked at him in silence.
- Seeing her look at him like that, Jack felt like his heart was about to burst out of his chest. He quickly reached for a tissue and handed it to her. "No more crying. I’ll take you away right now."
- It was really strange.
- He liked Olivia, but he had never felt this way about her before.
- Could it be that he was starting to like Adriana?
- After entering the city, Jack first took her for breakfast and then took her shopping for clothes. Afterward, he brought her to a hotel and got a room for her.
- Adriana was as pure as a blank sheet of paper, and he couldn't bring himself to do anything to hurt her. She was a very sweet, cute, and gentle little girl.
- Yet he didn’t know that in the depths of this girl’s heart, it was as dark as it could be, and she despised him to the very core of his being.
- "Jack, you're so kind." Stopping in front of the room door, Adriana blinked her big eyes and hesitated for a moment before extending her hands to him. "This chocolate is for you, a thank-you gift from me for helping me with all of this."
- Her face flushed with embarrassment, and her voice sounded very soft and sweet, gently brushing against his ears. Jack looked down and slowly took the chocolate from her hands.
- The trust and reliance she placed entirely on him made him want to protect her, not harm her.
- Adriana lowered her head to hide the disdain in her eyes and slid the key card into the slot to open the door before stepping inside. Leaving a small gap in the door, she smiled shyly at him. "Jack, you can go now. I'll be fine here. I'm used to living on my own."
- Jack nodded absentmindedly and watched the door close in front of him. He felt as though his heart had been taken inside with her as well, leaving him feeling empty.
- As soon as Adriana entered the room, her innocent expression was instantly replaced by a sneer.
- Olivia liked to pretend to be an innocent girl and a good person to lure others into her trap.
- So it was no wonder that as soon as Adriana acted like this, Jack was instantly mesmerized by her.
