Chapter 13 Not Cheating
- "Isn't that your medical report?" Isla immediately asked Adriana when she recognized the paper that had fallen out in one of the photos.
- Adriana nodded with a smile.
- She used to faint without any apparent reason, and when she mentioned it to Raymond several times, he eventually grew impatient and threw her some money to get herself checked at the clinic.
- Adriana was scared, so she dragged Isla along to accompany her. The results from her medical examination showed that she was suffering from severe anemia, and the report was still in her backpack.
- Adriana held Isla's arm, and the two of them made their way to their class. They were both in Class Four, one of the five classes in this school.
- Class One was for the smartest and most outstanding students, the elite. Classes Two and Three were for the students with average performance, while Classes Four and Five were for the students with lower academic ability.
- The moment they stepped into their classroom, the previously noisy and chaotic room fell silent. All the gloating eyes immediately turned to Adriana.
- She ignored them and walked to her seat with her usual calm expression.
- "Someone like her has no shame at all. She still dares to show her face at school. If it were me, I would have dug a hole and buried myself in it long ago!"
- “Exactly!”
- The female students began to mock and insult Adriana, while the male students stared at her in an unbridled manner, as if they were watching some thrilling drama.
- A few minutes later, her class teacher appeared at the door with a face as dark as ink. "Adriana, come with me!"
- ······
- All the teachers were present in the teachers’ office today. Adriana stood in front of her teacher’s desk with her head bowed. Her entire body also shrank like a quail.
- "What exactly happened during the midterm exam? Is it true that you cheated?" Philip Cross slapped his desk in frustration.
- Adriana's grades could be considered good among her classmates, but she was someone who did not like to socialize and rarely interacted with her peers. This was fine because some students had unique personalities, but her habit of remaining silent when something happened always made people frustrated.
- "Teacher, I didn’t cheat, nor do I need to cheat." Adriana slowly raised her head and looked at him with her tear-filled eyes. "The surveillance camera in that room is of very high quality. If you stop at the moment the paper falls and zoom in, you’ll be able to tell whether it was a cheat sheet I brought in or something else."
- She was born with an incredible photographic memory. She could memorize any subject just by reading it once, so why would she need to cheat to get good marks?
- "Philip, I also find it quite impossible for her to have cheated." The door to the office was pushed open, and a soft male voice came from behind her. "This school has a complete monitoring system. Surely you can clear this up after a quick check?"
- Adriana turned around and saw her math teacher, Tristan Graves, speaking up for her. His eyes, filled with a faint smile, fell on her.
- Philip looked taken aback. "Weren’t those photos provided by the school’s administration? They must have investigated it more thoroughly."
- This time, Tristan was the one who looked surprised. "Who told you that the photos were provided by the administration? The big screen system suddenly malfunctioned this morning, causing the photos to get stuck there. That’s why we are unable to reveal the student’s’ grades today. The maintenance team is still working on fixing the problem."
- Philip: "..."
- Adriana: "...."
- Adriana wasn’t sure whether she should say anything about this.
- "Wait here; I’ll go to the administration office to check the surveillance footage," Philip said to Adriana before hurrying out.
- The expressions of the other teachers in the office were somewhat subtle. They had overheard the conversation among the three of them and glanced briefly at Adriana before continuing with their work.
- Tristan pulled out Philip’s chair and sat down. A refreshing smile appeared on his face as he asked, "Are you not feeling well?"
- Adriana nodded. "The paper that fell down was my medical report."
- Tristan was a very kind teacher. He believed in each of his students and thought they would all become future elites who would raise the school’s reputation. Not passing the exam quickly didn’t matter to him. What mattered most was that the students didn’t give up and kept trying until they succeeded.
- Adriana was very grateful to him for his trust and guidance. If not for his help earlier, she might have been scolded by Philip for a long time.
- "Studying is important, but your health is even more important. Take a good care of yourself." Tristan gently advised her before returning to his desk to retrieve the lesson syllabus before heading to class.
- Adriana waited for Philip for another ten minutes before he finally returned from the administration office and told her to go back to class as if nothing had happened.
- There was nothing more to be said, as the answer was clear.
- When she returned to her classroom, her chemistry teacher, Sylvia Pembroke, was explaining the answers to the midterm chemistry exam questions at the front of the class.
- Adriana knocked on the door and calmly stepped inside.
- "Wait! Who gave you permission to enter?" Sylvia put down her chalk and turned to Adriana, her face filled with loathing. "Adriana, starting today, I don’t want you in my class. After what you’ve done, I won’t have you teaching your classmates how to cheat to get good grades. Get out."
- Sylvia didn’t like Adriana very much. Every day, she felt stressed. No matter whether it was the monthly tests or quizzes, her grades always stayed the same. This time, it was even more exaggerated. This girl had actually brought a small cheat sheet with her during the midterm exam!
- "Miss Pembroke." Adriana stopped in her tracks and looked up at Sylvia sharply. "I have never used such a disgraceful method to get good grades. If you still don’t believe me, I can answer the questions on that exam paper for you right now."
- Sylvia was taken aback by the sharpness in Adriana’s eyes. She panicked for a moment before quickly calming down and stepping aside. "All right, please answer questions 5 to 11. If you can answer these correctly, I’ll allow you to stay in the class."
