• “Wait a minute,” Alan cuts in, his voice steady but cold. “First, contact our man in the company and all the branches. Tell them to stop taking orders from the Master—completely. But let the lower-level staff who only run errands still answer to him.” He dials and connects a call to Kellie, and Joel sends the audio recording from his phone to her.
• Kellie immediately informs Grandfather, initiates the first part of the plan, and instructs their contact to replace Vienna’s father in prison with another man. He’s to be brought to their third hideout. Once that’s done, she’s to inform Alan. He also instructs her to set up a meeting with his uncle in a secret location. Then he ends the call.
• “Is there a way you can hold off my blindness until everything is done?” Alan asks seriously. “I can’t afford to lose my sight now.”
