Chapter 8

  • Jane’s spine was rigid, and she came to a halt before turning her head to face Damien.
  • He, what does he want?
  • Mr. Dickson was apprehensive about offending Damien, and thus had no inclination to show any compassion or mercy.
  • He glared at Jane irritably and spoke, “Miss Jane, you collided with Mr. Damien earlier, and yet, you simply walked away.”
  • Jane scrunched up her eyebrows, knowing full well that they were the ones at fault.
  • If they hadn’t tried to force her, she wouldn’t have bumped into Damien.
  • She glanced over at Damien and impatiently inquired, “What do you want then?”
  • Did he lose his memory while he was abroad and not recognize her?
  • Damien stared back at her, his expression indecipherable.
  • Ciara felt a pang of suspicion, and her eyes flickered towards Jane, her heart filled with envy.
  • Even though Jane was all over the place, she was still young and beautiful.
  • Otherwise, Mr. Dickson wouldn’t have taken an interest in her earlier.
  • No, she couldn’t let Jane ruin her plans.
  • Ciara earnestly spoke up, “Mr. Damien, I am her boss. I failed to train her well, and she is not very sensible. Please don’t embarrass her. Let me apologize to you on her behalf.”
  • Jane glanced at Ciara, finding her words more pleasing than her singing.
  • If she didn’t have an ulterior motive, Jane would never have believed her.
  • “Really? That’s great!” Damien’s tone was filled with interest.
  • Jane was taken aback by his sudden change in attitude. Perhaps he had really developed feelings for Ciara.
  • His taste was impeccable, too!
  • “Jane, hurry up and thank Mr. Damien,” Ciara reminded Jane.
  • Jane’s lips twitched, “Thank you, Mr. Damien.”
  • She turned to face Ciara, “Thank you as well, Ciara. I hope you get what you want.”
  • Ciara had a gentle smile on her face, her tone softer, “Go home early and stay safe.”
  • Jane smiled, turned around, and as soon as she was out of sight, the smile on her face vanished.
  • Observing from the side, Betty Grayson glanced at Damien and his companions before following Jane’s lead.
  • Once Jane had departed, Ciara turned to Damien with a flirtatious smile, “Mr. Damien, shall we go inside?”
  • With the obstacle out of the way, she was confident that she could win over the number one eligible bachelor in New York with her beauty.
  • Even if it was just a one-night affair, her worth would double.
  • As the voices faded away, Jane turned around to find no one outside the room.
  • Being with an enemy was a strange feeling for a newlywed.
  • Even if she was married to Damien, it would greatly reduce her opinion of him.
  • As expected, men were creatures driven by their desires.
  • “Jane, was the most attractive man earlier Damien Wolfe of the Wolfe family in New York?” Betty asked suddenly.
  • Jane nodded, “It appears so.”
  • “He doesn’t seem very old, I wonder if he has a girlfriend.” Betty sighed.
  • “Why, do you want to be his girlfriend?” Jane joked.
  • “How could he fall for someone like me? I was just speaking casually.” Betty smiled before sighing, “I envy Ciara for being able to get close to him.”
  • Jane remained silent. In all honesty, no one could resist Damien Wolfe’s charm.
  • Aside from being handsome, the most important attribute was his wealth.
  • These days, there was no shortage of women who wanted to marry into wealthy families.
  • Ciara had struck it lucky this time, and her arrogance would likely only increase tomorrow.
  • “Let’s go,” she said. There was no way she could compete with that woman now, so she would wait.
  • “Okay!” Betty took Jane’s hand, and the two walked away.
  • In the exclusive chamber, there were numerous people, all of whom were smartly dressed, and it was apparent that their backgrounds were complex.
  • Damien was lounging on the leather sofa, swaying the glass of red wine in his hand, his beautiful eyes were half-closed, and he appeared quite nonchalant.
  • His features were delicate and attractive, and his disposition was aristocratic. Regardless of the situation, he was the center of attention.
  • Ciara, holding a wine glass, approached him with trepidation.
  • She stood before him and lifted her glass, “Mr. Damien, I offer you a toast and apologize to you for the unpleasant events that occurred earlier.”
  • “Damien, the movie queen has proposed a toast to you,” the young man beside him said with a grin.
  • Damien raised his eyes slightly and spoke in a cold tone, “When did you offend me, and how can you believe that a single glass of wine will make amends?”
  • The air around them became heavy, and no one present dared to intervene.
  • Ciara’s face became expressionless. What did he mean by that? Was he trying to humiliate her as a woman? Impossible, a man is more likely to show compassion towards a beautiful woman.
  • She smiled and said, “Mr. Damien, if you are unhappy, I will drink until you are pleased. This is the first glass.”
  • After speaking, she raised her head and downed the wine in her glass.
  • To her surprise, Damien didn’t even glance at her.
  • Observing this, Mr. Dickson stood up and refilled Ciara’s glass, apologizing with a gesture, “Let’s propose another toast to Mr. Damien.”
  • Ciara complied and offered another toast.
  • But Damien remained silent, and the atmosphere in the chamber grew increasingly tense.
  • Ciara was apprehensive; she sensed that today’s matter might not be straightforward.
  • Damien appeared to be a difficult individual to handle.
  • She regretted assisting Jane with the top-up earlier.
  • “Mr. Damien, can you tell us what’s on your mind?” Mr. Dickson leaned over, cautiously.
  • Damien lowered his gaze and took a sip of the red wine.
  • His movements were graceful and dignified, but Mr. Dickson and Ciara had no time to appreciate them.
  • He glanced at Mr. Dickson, “Did you mention that you want to drink until I am content?”
  • Mr. Dickson was momentarily shocked and inquired, “I’m not sure how much will satisfy you?”
  • “I know that,” chuckled the young man next to him.
  • Mr. Dickson gazed at him and asked, “Please explain, Mr. Damien.”
  • The young man sitting next to Damien appeared to be only 23 years old, with a striking appearance and the cynicism of a family member in every gesture.
  • Felix Wilson smirked, “You’ll find out when the server arrives.”
  • “Sure!” Mr. Dickson replied quickly and asked someone to call the server.
  • Ciara sensed danger from Felix’s words and attempted to appeal to Damien’s kindness.
  • “Mr. Damien, I can drink as much as you want, as long as you’re happy.”
  • It wasn’t until she saw the six cases of liquor brought in by the server that she realized she had misjudged the situation.
  • Damien’s eyes froze, and he gazed at Mr. Dickson, “After we drink everything, today’s matters will be resolved, otherwise...”
  • He didn’t finish his sentence, but Mr. Dickson comprehended what he meant.
  • Although the task was difficult, it had to be accomplished.
  • “Mr. Damien, don’t worry, I’ll keep a watchful eye on her and make sure she drinks everything,” Mr. Dickson promised, almost patting his chest.
  • Damien placed his wine glass down, got up, and walked outside.
  • Before leaving, Felix glanced at Ciara and smirked knowingly. He didn’t know how this old woman had offended Damien.
  • Even if she doesn’t die now, it’s enough for her to learn her lesson.
  • “Mr. Damien, take care!” Everyone stood up and escorted him out.
  • “Mr. Damien, you can’t do this...” Ciara wanted to plead for mercy, but others stopped her before she could approach.
  • Mr. Dickson handed the wine bottle to Ciara, “Ciara, you heard what Mr. Damien said, thank you for your hard work.”
  • “I won’t drink!” Ciara gritted her teeth and declared.
  • With so much wine, she couldn’t possibly finish it.
  • “I’m afraid, it’s up to you.” Mr. Dickson’s expression became icy, and he bluntly instructed those present to have a drink.
  • “Um, um...” Ciara whimpered, consumed by endless remorse and growing animosity towards Jane.
  • She was enduring all this agony for that insignificant woman, but she vowed to reclaim what was rightfully hers.
