Chapter 6

  • Ciara’s expression changed slightly, and she put on a smile and said, “Director Rebel, are you joking with me?”
  • “Do you think I’m in the mood to joke with you, Ciara? You know I have many options for the female lead, and it’s not up to you,” replied Director Rebel.
  • “No, no, Director Rebel, there must be a misunderstanding. I will definitely explain. Please don’t be angry. It’s not worth getting angry,” Ciara said.
  • “Ciara, you know how well I treat you. This is your last chance,” warned Director Rebel.
  • “Okay, okay, I understand. Thank you, Director Rebel. I will explain everything. How about I treat you to dinner tonight?” Ciara apologized with a smile.
  • Once she hung up, her smile faded. She called her agent Salem Blue and said coldly, “Director Rebel says Jane wasn’t in that room last night. What happened? Why did she disappear?”
  • “Didn’t she take the medicine? How could she disappear?” Salem was also surprised.
  • “I don’t know, find out for me immediately. This role is crucial to me,” Ciara roared.
  • After a week in New York, Jane returned to Hollywood to continue filming. Her contract with Ciara was about to end, so she would no longer be her stand-in after these few days of shooting.
  • On set, Jane made mistakes almost every time because Ciara was absent. As the lead actor, Ciara’s absence was noticeable, and the director was clearly unhappy.
  • On the last day, Ciara finally showed up. She wanted to embarrass Jane, but it was too late. The director didn’t say anything, but his displeasure was evident.
  • Ciara had no choice but to watch as Jane finished her scenes. In the evening, Ciara invited everyone to the clubhouse to make up for her absence. Jane was also invited, but she had no choice but to accept. The clubhouse was near Hollywood, and Ciara had already booked a private room.
  • The exclusive chamber is quite capacious, capable of accommodating up to 30 individuals. Jane occupies the corner, observing the revelers as they guzzle and brawl.
  • “Have you and Maltida ever been to a place like this before, Jane?” The young woman beside her inquired abruptly.
  • Jane turned to her. It was Betty Grayson, the actress who played the protagonist’s maid. She was rumored to be the same age as Jane and had an innocent appearance.
  • The two of them occasionally socialized, and they were on amicable terms.
  • “No,” Jane responded.
  • Betty looked at her in amazement. “Don’t you have a close relationship with Ciara?”
  • Jane frowned slightly. She also thought they had a good relationship. Just as she was about to respond, she heard a voice.
  • “Jane, come over for a drink. I miss you,” Ciara called out, smiling at her. The others ceased their commotion and gazed at her.
  • Jane stood up and replied nonchalantly, “Ciara, you know I’m not adept at drinking.”
  • Ciara’s smile deepened. “Didn’t you drink well with me last time? Everyone is here today, why are you so shy?”
  • Previous occasion? Jane’s pupils tightened slightly, and Ciara felt ashamed to bring up the past incident.
  • She couldn’t bear to imagine what would have happened if she hadn’t escaped.
  • The human psyche is truly intricate, and some individuals have valid reasons for their malevolent actions.
  • Jane concealed the animosity in her heart and walked towards Ciara.
  • Without touching the wine on the table, she grabbed the bottle and poured herself a fresh glass.
  • Lifting her glass, she gazed at Ciara and said, “Ciara has spoken, and I dare not disobey. I must show respect with this cup and thank Ciara Tyla for taking care of me for so long.”
  • Ciara narrowed her eyes, noticing the young girl’s agitation.
  • “You are punished with wine, how can you show me respect?” She chuckled. “That’s not fair.”
  • Jane raised her head and downed the wine in her cup.
  • Observing her reddened face, Ciara suggested with a grin, “One cup isn’t enough. You must drink three, don’t you think?”
  • The surrounding guests cheered, “Yes, yes, three cups!”
  • Jane smiled, “As Ciara said, I must drink if I can’t, right?”
  • Bravely, she picked up the wine glass and downed three glasses in a row. Her pretty face became increasingly flushed, and her body swayed unsteadily.
  • Watching her state, everyone believed she couldn’t handle her alcohol.
  • Ciara may have appeared to be bullying Jane.
  • Wanting to continue teasing her, Ciara saw everyone suddenly quiet down, realizing it was too late.
  • She generously said to Jane, “Alright, if you can’t handle it, I won’t force you. Eat, drink, and have fun. Make yourself at home.”
  • Jane smiled and said, “Thank you, Ciara.”
  • Ciara didn’t respond, turning to converse with the director and others.
  • Perhaps due to the flashing lights in the room, Jane felt even dizzier.
  • Shaking her head, she left the private room and headed straight to the bathroom.
  • In the bathroom, Jane splashed her face repeatedly with cold water. Finally, she regained her composure, and the double vision dissipated.
  • After splashing her face with cold water once again, she was preparing to exit when she noticed Ciara entering through the mirror.
  • She averted her gaze and left immediately.
  • Ciara observed Jane with a sneer and remarked, “Is this how you treat your seniors?”
  • Jane halted and slightly curved the corners of her lips, “I can’t afford to offend a malicious senior like you, or else my life would be ruined.”
  • Ciara chuckled, “I didn’t expect you to be so resourceful. You managed to escape from that predicament and left Director Rebel hanging.”
  • Jane’s expression darkened instantly and she spoke coldly, “Yes, I’ve disappointed you.”
  • Ciara straightened her hair in front of the mirror with an air of superiority, “Why do you seem so upset? I’m just pitying you for losing the opportunity to find a sugar daddy. However, if you regret it, I can make arrangements for you.”
  • Jane sneered, “You still want to use me as a tool? You have no shame!”
  • Ciara’s eyes turned icy as she suppressed her anger and spoke coldly, “Don’t you want to help your brother? Only I can assist you.”
  • “Whether you’re helping or harming me, we both know the truth. Don’t introduce Director Rebel to others, you two are a match made in heaven.”
  • Jane walked past Ciara with a cold expression and out of the bathroom.
  • “What did you say? Stop!” Ciara shouted, but Jane paid no attention.
  • This was a public place, and she couldn’t act too impulsively.
  • She strode towards the sink in frustration and hit the mirror with a loud “thud.”
  • Her beautiful face in the mirror was filled with resentment, and her eyes were full of malice.
  • “You little wretch!” she muttered through gritted teeth.
  • She had instructed Salem to inspect the hotel’s surveillance footage, but was informed that the footage from that night had been erased.
  • The hotel refused to divulge any information, which further convinced her that there was something suspicious in that footage.
  • She would get to the bottom of it, and as long as she had leverage over Jane, she was certain she would prevail.
