Chapter 1

  • In a poorly lit hotel room, Jane Austen wriggled restlessly on the oversized bed, her body aching and her head pounding from the excessive alcohol she had consumed earlier.
  • As she took a deep breath, she noticed two figures standing near the bed, one of whom was actress Ciara Tyla and her manager, Salem Blue.
  • Realizing it was getting late, Jane attempted to get up, but was stopped by Ciara’s impatient voice.
  • “She looks ready to go,” Ciara remarked.
  • Confused, Jane wondered what Ciara meant by her comment.
  • Earlier that night, Jane had received a call from Salem to pick them up at the hotel, but upon arrival, Ciara had taken her to meet the producer and director and had given her alcohol until she became dizzy and disoriented.
  • Salem looked at Jane with sympathy and sighed, “It’s a shame that such a beautiful girl is going to be used by Director Rebel.”
  • Ciara, however, was dismissive and snide. “Don’t sympathize with her. She’s just a stuntwoman, it’s her job.”
  • Ciara then went on to explain how she had been offered a role by Director Rebel in exchange for sleeping with him, and how she was planning to do the same with Jane.
  • Jane was shocked and appalled by Ciara’s plan, and wondered why she would be treated this way after all her hard work over the past six months.
  • Even though she was still feeling the effects of the alcohol, Jane knew she had to stand up for herself and refuse to be used in this way.
  • Just as she was about to rise and reveal their identities, Salem suddenly spoke up.
  • “Ciara, I’ve always been curious, you have no relation or connection with her, so why did you pay for her brother’s medical treatment?”
  • Jane’s heart sank slightly. Could there be something more to this?
  • “Help her? You’re mistaken,” Ciara chuckled. “I only spent 4 dollars to hire a rising star to give up her stardom and work as a stand-in actor for me for half a year without even paying her a cent. It was she who helped me.”
  • Salem was taken aback. “You mean...”
  • “When I first heard the rumor that Director Kurt was interested in her pure looks and wanted to cast her as the lead, I took notice of her.”
  • Salem knew which movie Ciara was referring to. It was said that the lead actress had not yet been confirmed, but it was only a matter of time before it was in Ciara’s grasp.
  • “So, you designed her to be your substitute to conceal her identity?”
  • Ciara checked the time on her phone and hurriedly said, “Oh, it’s almost time. I have to go. It wouldn’t be good if I ran into Director Rebel.”
  • Ciara nodded and turned to leave.
  • She thought about Salem’s question, looked at Jane on the bed, and said nonchalantly, “Of course, it’s not as simple as that. It’s all because she offended someone she shouldn’t have.”
  • A flurry of hurried footsteps receded, and the door slammed shut, muffling all sound.
  • Jane gazed at the dismal ceiling, consumed by an endless rage and regret.
  • When she first joined the entertainment industry, she was a novice, only able to land minor roles with a modest income.
  • Desperate to cover her brother’s medical expenses, she received unexpected aid from Ciara Tyla.
  • She sought to repay the debt, but Ciara adamantly refused, insisting that she was merely accruing good karma.
  • Ciara’s assistant informed her that Ciara was in need of a stuntwoman.
  • Disliking the notion of indebtedness, Jane offered herself up as a replacement.
  • Later, she discovered that her agent had secured her a lucrative commercial and two high-budget scripts, one of which featured her as the lead actress, an auspicious start to her career.
  • Now it was clear that Ciara had been aware of these developments, and had deliberately conspired to stymie her ascent.
  • Ciara was not as amiable as she appeared, and her exacting work standards bordered on cruelty.
  • She even meddled in Jane’s personal life.
  • Over the past six months, Jane had sustained numerous injuries, but refrained from complaint, as Ciara had been her benefactor.
  • Who could have guessed that the kindness she had held in her heart would be exploited by Ciara?
  • Ciara claimed that Jane had offended someone she shouldn’t have, but Jane could not fathom who that might be.
  • Perhaps she was referring to Jane herself.
  • Actress Ciara Tyla was not one to be trifled with!
  • Jane found the situation absurd, a consequence of her own folly.
  • Suddenly, she felt a wave of heat surge through her body.
  • She carelessly ripped off her collar, experiencing an inexplicable sensation.
  • She recalled Ciara’s earlier comment, suggesting that something had been added to the wine.
  • Was Ciara planning to use her as a stepping stone tonight?
  • No, absolutely not!
  • She could not allow Ciara to succeed, no matter what.
  • Jane struggled to sit up, rose unsteadily, and made her way towards the door.
  • Upon opening it, the blinding light disoriented her.
  • Not knowing where the elevator was, she leaned on the wall and turned left.
  • As she took a few steps, she heard an indecent male voice from behind.
  • “Room 516, right? I’m here. I’ll go in and unwrap the present you prepared for me.”
  • Jane’s body tensed. Room 516 was the room she had just stayed in. She remembered Salem reading out the room number.
  • Could it be Director Rebel? She couldn’t risk being caught, so she had to leave quickly.
  • Jane’s heart raced, her breathing became rapid, and the strange sensation in her body intensified. She leaned against the wall, feeling weak and her vision blurry.
  • With gritted teeth, she pushed herself off the wall and continued walking. Suddenly, she collided with something and stumbled backwards.
  • Just as she thought she was going to fall, a strong hand wrapped around her waist, preventing her from falling.
  • A pleasant scent of cologne mixed with alcohol filled her nose. She looked up and saw a tall, handsome man standing before her.
  • Damien Wolfe had his hands on her waist, his hazel eyes fixed on her disheveled appearance with surprise and coldness in his voice.
  • “Jane, you...” His words trailed off as his pupils dilated. Before she knew it, his lips were on hers, silencing her.
  • Her arms wrapped around his neck, and they kissed passionately like vines entwining.
  • The door was banged open as the room card was inserted, and warm light flooded in.
  • The man strode in, carrying a woman in his arms, and shut the door behind him.
  • The room was silent as Damien carefully laid the woman on the bed, her shirt torn and crumpled.
  • What worried him more was her restlessness, as she tugged at his clothes and wriggled in his embrace.
  • It took all his willpower to resist the impulse in his heart as he held her close.
  • Breathing a sigh of relief, Damien felt like he had just climbed a mountain as he placed her on the bed.
  • He noticed her flushed cheeks and shortness of breath, and a chill crept across his handsome face.
  • Judging by her appearance, she must have been drugged.
  • Otherwise, why would she be so eager for him?
  • A wave of hostility rose in his heart, and his eyes darkened with anger. It seemed like someone was daring to mess with him.
  • He couldn’t bear to think about what would have happened if he hadn’t arrived in time.
  • If someone else had touched her, he might have lost his mind and gone on a rampage.
  • Suddenly, the woman’s voice interrupted his thoughts.
  • He turned to see her struggling, and quickly went to get a towel to wipe her face before taking her to the hospital.
  • “It’s so hot!” she whimpered.
  • Damien turned to comfort her, but was shocked to see her sitting up, her shirt unbuttoned.
  • He immediately covered her chest, trying not to look at her.
  • “Don’t move, I’ll take you to the hospital,” he said, his voice rough with emotion.
  • Jane gazed at him and impulsively leaned in to kiss him.
  • She couldn’t get enough, and kept kissing him, lost in her desire.
  • Damien was no longer able to resist her advances, and his defenses crumbled before her enthusiasm.
  • He felt intoxicated, not just from the alcohol, but also from her presence.
  • Unable to resist any longer, he gently held her face and kissed her with reverence.
  • Dim lighting always sparks some form of inspiration in people.
  • However, he didn’t want her to be with him for the wrong reasons, and he regained his senses.
  • Now, she had no recollection of who he was.
  • If it were any other man, she would have reacted the same.
  • A dark glint flickered in his light brown eyes, and the urge in his heart receded like a tide.
  • Would she forget everything that had happened tonight when she woke up, leaving him as just a mere stranger?
  • He took out his phone, turned on the recording, and placed it on top of her head, his eyes glimmering.
  • Lowering his head, he kissed her lips once more before heading to the bathroom.
  • Upon his return, he found the woman on the bed had already drifted off to sleep.
  • He picked up the phone from above her head and stepped out onto the balcony to make a call.
  • “Come over immediately and investigate who entered room 516 tonight, as well as Jane Austen’s current situation. Everything must be fine.”
  • Damien stood on the balcony, the cool night breeze brushing against his face, his handsome features reflecting a sense of chilliness.
  • The person on the other end of the line hesitated before asking, “Master, who is Jane Austen?”
  • “My future wife!” he declared.
  • The person on the other end of the line was taken aback and asked, “When did you get a girlfriend?”
  • Are you not single? He wanted to ask, but dared not.
  • “Come over and we’ll talk!” Damien hung up and gazed out into the deep night, his eyes filled with determination.
