Chapter 7

  • Jane took a breath outside before returning to the private room, but Ciara was nowhere to be found.
  • Betty asked, “Where did you go? I looked for you in the bathroom, but you weren’t there.”
  • Jane replied calmly, “I found a place to rest. Why don’t you sing?”
  • Betty looked embarrassed, “I’m not a good singer. I’m tone-deaf.”
  • Jane sensed that it might not be true, but rather a lack of confidence due to her social status.
  • Glancing at her watch, she said, “It’s getting late. I should leave.”
  • Since she and Ciara had severed ties, there was no reason to stay.
  • “I’ll come with you,” Betty said.
  • They left the room and turned a corner, where they overheard a woman’s whining voice.
  • “Mr. Dickson, it’s been so long. Do you miss me?” Ciara stood at the door of a private room, clinging to a pot-bellied middle-aged man.
  • “Of course, baby. You’re still as beautiful as ever,” he replied, his hands lingering on her body.
  • Betty was shocked, “Ciara...”
  • Jane remained unfazed, having already known about Ciara’s chaotic private life.
  • Ciara asked kindly, “Are you leaving, Jane?”
  • This caught Mr. Dickson’s attention, and he stared at Jane intently, “Why do I feel like I’ve seen you before?”
  • Ciara smiled, aware of men’s lustful nature, “She’s my substitute, Jane Austen. You’ve met her before.”
  • “Ah, Jane. What a fitting name,” Mr. Dickson’s eyes were glued to her.
  • Jane furrowed her brows slightly, wondering what Ciara’s intentions were. Ciara smiled at her and said, “Jane, why don’t you stay and play for a while?”
  • Jane declined directly, knowing full well that Ciara had ulterior motives. She wasn’t foolish enough to stay and be at her mercy.
  • Ciara checked her watch and teased, “It’s only two hours until midnight. You don’t want to miss work, do you?”
  • Jane smiled wryly, “It’s quite late. Do you still have a scene to film?”
  • “Why not? Life is a stage, after all,” Ciara replied with a smirk.
  • Jane’s expression darkened. Was Ciara really asking her to accompany a man? Did she have no self-respect?
  • “It’s not about missing work,” Mr. Dickson chimed in with a smile. “Miss Jane is so beautiful, which man wouldn’t want her to themselves?”
  • Ciara nodded in agreement, “Jane, with Mr. Dickson’s offer, you’ll have a much easier life than most.”
  • “I’m sorry, but I prefer to support myself,” Jane snapped, impatiently brushing past them and walking away.
  • Ciara’s eyes turned cold as she grabbed Jane’s wrist and warned, “This is Mr. Dickson, you can’t offend him.”
  • “Let’s go, Miss Jane. I’ll buy you a few drinks,” Mr. Dickson offered, reaching for Jane’s waist.
  • Jane quickly pushed Ciara away and inadvertently fell backwards into an open door. She was about to hit the ground when she felt a pair of strong arms catch her. Looking up, she was surprised to see a familiar face.
  • Damien held Jane’s waist with one hand and supported her shoulder with the other. His light brown eyes looked a little dim under the dim light.
  • His voice was cold and lacked warmth. “Are you drunk?”
  • He appeared indifferent and his words sounded like he was blaming Jane for bumping into him.
  • Jane stared at him for a few seconds and realized that this was not her imagination. She quickly stabilized herself and thanked him. “Thank you.”
  • She was surprised to see him here. Wasn’t he on a business trip in London?
  • Damien frowned slightly as he noticed the faint smell of alcohol on her body. It was obvious that she had been drinking. The paleness on her face was also due to fright.
  • Mr. Dickson’s heart rose in his throat when he saw Jane bump into Damien. He quickly pushed Ciara away and apologized. “Mr. Damien, I am very sorry for disturbing you.”
  • Ciara staggered and nearly fell to the ground, but she wasn’t angry. Instead, she looked straight at the handsome young man in front of her.
  • She knew that Mr. Dickson had a distinguished guest here today, so she came to make friends. Little did she know that it was Damien Wolfe, the heir to the Wolfe family with a net worth of hundreds of billions.
  • She apologized on behalf of her assistant and said, “Mr. Damien, I’m sorry for my assistant’s recklessness. I will apologize to you on her behalf.”
  • Ciara was wearing a V-neck long dress, and when she lowered her head, the neckline was visible.
  • Jane looked at her with a hint of sarcasm in her eyes. It seemed that Damien was her new target. After all, there was no better benefactor than Damien Wolfe, who was young, handsome, and rich.
  • Damien didn’t seem to notice Jane’s gaze. He frowned and said, “Apologize on her behalf? Who are you?”
  • Jane felt embarrassed and ashamed. It was the first time she had been looked down upon so much since becoming famous. Damien’s indifferent face and the cold light in his peach blossom eyes were breathtaking.
  • Regrettably, she was unable to have a seizure.
  • Abruptly, a masculine voice emanated from behind Damien, “Damien, she is not an object, she is actress Ciara Tyla, who is currently very popular.”
  • Ciara’s countenance turned ashen, did someone really speak in such a manner?
  • However, shortly after, she felt a sense of pride once again.
  • It appears that I still hold some level of notoriety in the second-generation circle, Ciara thought.
  • Nevertheless, her heart was shattered once more in the next moment.
  • “I am unaware,” Damien spoke with a composed tone, as if casually discussing the weather.
  • Jane couldn’t help but glance at Damien, was he serious or not?
  • He didn’t recognize Ciara Tyla?
  • Although, come to think of it, men have very specific preferences when it comes to women, they always prefer the young and beautiful ones.
  • Who cares about a woman older than themselves?
  • However, if this man discovers that Ciara was indirectly responsible for “taking away his virginity,” I wonder how he will feel, Jane thought.
  • Regardless, upon witnessing Ciara’s disappointment, Jane felt quite content and even regarded Damien with a more favorable gaze.
  • Mr. Dickson noticed that the atmosphere was somewhat dull and spoke with an apologetic smile, “Mr. Damien, let’s not linger here, let’s go inside and have a few more drinks. I must make a sincere apology to you.”
  • Jane snapped out of her thoughts, the subsequent events did not concern her.
  • She apologized to Damien, “I am sorry for what occurred earlier. I will take my leave now.”
  • Before he could respond, she turned around and departed.
  • Damien gazed at Jane’s retreating figure, his eyes dimmed slightly, “Did I instruct you to leave?”
