Chapter 63 Silent Standoff

  • Clara had been wracking her brain for a solution—anything to deescalate the situation before it spiralled further. Stopping the fire before it spread was the smartest strategy. But as the clock ticked past nine, the house remained eerily quiet, like an abandoned ghost town.
  • Her stomach had grumbled more than once in protest, so she got up and peeled a fruit, nibbling on it absentmindedly. By ten o’clock, she knew he wasn’t coming home tonight.
  • Sighing, she went to the kitchen packed away the meat she had prepared, and set aside the perishables to cook for breakfast. After cleaning up, she headed to the bathroom to wash up. By the time she stepped out, it was nearly eleven.
