Chapter 11 Spoiled Kid

  • The butler was taken aback by his imposing presence, unable to suppress a gasp as his gaze fell on the cat on Ruby's arms, clearly showing a look of concern.
  • Hearing the commotion, their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace stepped out. "What's going on? What is all this ruckus?"
  • Ruby quickly turned around and ran over to clutch her father's arm. "Dad, it's him, it's Ryan! He wants to get rid of my cat! Dad, look how cute my cat is, I really don't want to lose it!"
  • Mr. Wallace patted Ruby's hand and said, "And here I thought it was something serious! Alright, alright, it's nothing. Everyone, calm down."
  • Ryan suddenly spoke with a forceful tone, "I said to throw that animal out!"
  • The servants, who had started to move, froze back into place.
  • Clara was dumbfounded and didn't expect the situation to escalate like this. She could only look at Ryan as she was unsure whether she should speak.
  • Clearly, both siblings refused to back down.
  • Mr. Wallace furrowed his brow but softened his voice as he said, "Ryan, it's just a cat, and if Ruby likes it …"
  • "Can an animal be more important than a person? It bit Clara! If we keep such a vicious animal in the house, who would dare come visit us? Or do you see some people as more important than others? If that's the case, I have nothing more to say!"
  • Ryan's eyes narrowed, his voice calm yet resolute. The way he looked at his father was cold and piercing, he was clearly hinting at something more with what he said.
  • His father's face changed dramatically, as if recalling something. His lips trembled slightly before he finally spoke, "Someone! Throw the cat out! And from now on, no pets are allowed in this house!"
  • "Dad!!"
  • Ruby screamed in disbelief, clinging tightly to the cat in her arms.
  • "What are you all standing around for? I said to throw it out!"
  • When her father spoke again, his tone was harsher. Ruby clung to the cat, crying uncontrollably, but Ryan said nothing. He wrapped his arm around Clara and led her upstairs.
  • "Dad, please don't throw it out! I'll keep it in a cage. I promise not to let it out, okay?"
  • With a sigh, Mr. Wallace hesitated, then said, "Butler, send the cat to a pet store. Make sure they take good care of it."
  • Back in the room, Ryan, cold as ice, grabbed some ointment and gently applied it to Clara's wound.
  • Luckily, she was not hurt too badly. Otherwise, they'd have to get a tetanus shot.
  • Looking at Ryan's calm and distant demeanor, Clara suddenly felt warmth in her heart.
  • For a moment, she realized that maybe Ryan wasn't as awful as she had thought. At least in front of others, he always protected her.
  • In this way, he was Dominic's polar opposite.
  • Thinking of this, Clara suddenly reached out and hugged Ryan tightly.
  • Ryan's body went stiff, it felt as if all the blood in him froze. He stood still for a long time, his peripheral vision fixed on the woman in his arms, who was giving him a big, big hug.
  • "I'm sorry for causing you trouble. I didn't mean to cause any of this. I just wanted to spend some time with Grandma before leaving…" Clara said apologetically.
  • She was not sure why she wanted to warm Ryan up so badly. She didn't want him to keep suffering alone anymore.
  • They hugged for what felt like an eternity before Ryan awkwardly pushed her away. He glanced at the strands of her hair left on his clothes and, for the first time, didn't find it annoying.
  • "Stay away from her from now on."
  • "Okay, I understand," Clara replied obediently.
  • As they left their room, Clara walked behind Ryan. She made sure to avoid touching anything and kept as quiet as possible.
  • Naturally, Madame Teresa could sense that something was off. During dinner, she sent Mrs. Wallace to call for Ruby, who was still throwing a tantrum.
  • Ruby sulked as she sat at the dinner table, her eyes slightly red, "Grandma..."
  • Teresa responded with a simple "hmm," then said, "You're about to get married soon, yet you're still throwing a childish fit? You've all spoiled her!"
  • As Teresa spoke, she shot a sideways glance at Ruby's parents. Mr. Wallace said nothing, while Mrs. Wallace was angry but could only agree, "Mom is right. I've always told her that she's spoiled."
  • "Ruby, I'm just being fair. Your cat should have been thrown out long ago. It keeps hurting other people. This ends here, and no one is allowed to bring it up again! We're family, and harmony is what matters. It's rare for us to be together like this, so let's raise a glass together!"
  • When Teresa spoke, everyone, despite their discontent, took the opportunity to defuse the tension, and the family began to eat. The atmosphere improved somewhat.
  • As dinner was winding down, Teresa suddenly said:
  • "Clara, you're too thin. You need to eat more to help the Wallace family grow and prosper. I'll be waiting! If Ryan ever dares to bully you, just tell me, and I'll take care of him. Don't hold a grudge against him! Ryan, you need to work hard and treat Clara well, got it?"
  • Teresa bringing this up publicly at the dinner table was certainly unexpected. Clara's face turned so red she wished she could bury it in her food, while Ryan simply nodded in response.
  • Except for Ryan's father, everyone else showed a somewhat unpleasant expression.
  • After dinner, the two didn't linger long. They sat alone in Teresa's room for a while before deciding to leave early.
  • They had to go to work the next day, and since they hadn't been living together, Ryan dropped Clara back at her place. To his surprise, Clara's mother, Mrs. Hull, was already waiting at the door to welcome them.
