Chapter 2 Are You Pregnant?

  • Her heart suddenly ached as she tossed the earrings into the drawer. A wave of nausea hit her, and she rushed to the bathroom.
  • "Ugh..."
  • "Clara, are you awake? What's wrong? Come out for breakfast!" Her mom's concerned voice echoed from outside the room.
  • Clara quickly rinsed her mouth. "Coming!"
  • It felt as if she had vomited out everything, even the bitterness and heartache she had carried for so long. Some things should have been let go a long time ago.
  • A sudden wave of hatred welled up in her chest.
  • Her sharp nails dug into her palms, and her chest swelled with anger. Just then, her mom's voice called again. "Clara!"
  • "I'm coming!"
  • Clara instantly deflated like a balloon, wiped her mouth, and hurried out.
  • At the dining table, her mom had already served her breakfast. "Why do you look so pale? Is it work stress?"
  • Seeing how much her mom had visibly aged, Clara felt another pang of sadness. She picked up an egg and placed it in her mom's bowl with a smile.
  • "No, I probably just drank too much and didn't sleep well…"
  • She couldn't let her mom worry anymore.
  • Before she finished eating, her phone rang. Without a moment to dwell on her emotions, she put down her fork and rushed out.
  • "Mom, I need to work overtime and go on a business trip. Don't wait up for me!"
  • By the time Clara returned, more than half a month had passed. As soon as she got home, she heard the news that her mom had been admitted to the hospital.
  • Without delay, Clara rushed to the hospital. Just as she turned a corner, a familiar voice came from behind her.
  • "Clara? What a coincidence!"
  • That sickeningly familiar tone sent chills down her spine. Clara instinctively quickened her pace, but Angel quickly blocked her way.
  • "Clara, where are you going?"
  • Clara had no patience for her and turned to leave, but Angel swiftly stepped in front of her again, cutting off her path.
  • "I admit I drugged you that night, but it was you who ended up with someone else. If you're innocent, why didn't you resist? Who are you trying to fool?"
  • Clara frowned and shot her a cold glance. "Angel, I was blind before, thinking you were a friend. But now, I only have one thing to say to you. Karma will come for people like you. Now move. I don't want to see you."
  • As she tried to walk past, Angel grabbed her arm, her expression suddenly turning pitiful.
  • "Clara, you have to believe me. Dominic isn't as wicked as you think. He's never forgotten you. He's loyal to his feelings. These past two years, he's suffered too. I've often seen him staring…"
  • "Enough! I…"
  • Before Clara could react, Angel was suddenly crouching on the ground, clutching her stomach, crying out, "It hurts!"
  • What kind of act is this? I didn't even touch her.
  • Then came the soft murmur, "Dominic…" and everything clicked. Clara turned around just in time to see Dominic's furious face. The next moment, he had already brushed past her and kneeled beside Angel, holding her tightly. "Are you okay?"
  • "Clara was frustrated with me. I wanted to ask for her forgiveness, so... I accidentally hurt myself. Don't blame her."
  • "Clara, when will you stop?" Dominic's roar shook her to the core, as if her heart had shattered.
  • He glared at her, his eyes filled with malice. "If anything happens to Angel, I won't let you get away with it!"
  • Watching Dominic carry Angel away, Clara's chest swelled with a deep sense of injustice. Suddenly, nausea surged up, and she bent over, retching. "Ugh..."
  • A cold voice rang out from behind her, "Are you pregnant?"
  • Pregnant? Could I really be that unlucky, getting pregnant after just one time?
  • She quickly calculated the dates in her head. Her period was late!
  • A wave of panic gripped her, and her face turned deathly pale. She spun around in shock, only to be met by a pair of dark blue eyes, cold and piercing, filled with icy contempt.
  • Instinctively she stepped back.
  • "Mine?" The faint upward tilt in his tone carried an air of dominance.
  • She nodded, then violently shook her head. "No! It's not!"
  • Ryan seized her wrist and dragged her straight to the obstetrics and gynecology department.
  • Half an hour later, Clara walked out, clutching the test results, her head hanging low. She didn't dare look at Ryan, who was waiting in a chair nearby, but her expression said it all.
  • She had been pregnant for three weeks.
  • "Let's get married." Ryan's voice was cold and brooked no argument, his expression dark as a storm.
  • "No! It's less than a month. I can still take care of it." This is a mistake. How can I make it even worse by adding another one? Finally, the shock of the pregnancy began to lift, and Clara regained her clarity.
  • "Don't even think about harming my child! We're getting married now, or I'll drag you to the city hall!"
  • The sheer threat in his tone sent a chill through her entire body. Clara pressed her lips together tightly, her resistance clear.
  • Just then, the door behind her creaked open.
  • Her mom stood there, stunned. "You… you're pregnant?"
  • "Mom, I was thinking about..." Clara began nervously, knowing that being pregnant out of wedlock was nothing to be proud of.
  • Alice Sharp's face darkened. "Thinking about what? An abortion? Do you want a beating instead? You will have this child! And you..."
  • She pointed a trembling finger at Ryan's stony face, making Clara's heart quiver.
  • "You will marry my daughter and take responsibility for her and that baby inside her!"
