Chapter 6 Ryan's Frustration
- Teresa brought up Ryan's past and asked Clara about their relationship. Clara was mostly honest but avoided mentioning the pregnancy, unsure if Ryan had told Grandma. To be cautious, she didn't dare mention it either.
- Teresa pushed her to have children soon, and Clara obediently agreed.
- After 10 o'clock, the servant led her to Ryan's room.
- As soon as she closed the door, Ryan's cold voice demanded. "Throw it away!"
- "Huh?"
- Following his gaze, Clara noticed the envelope and box in her hand. They were gifts from Mrs. Wallace, who insisted Clara on keeping them.
- "Didn't you hear me?"
- "But it's money..." Was I supposed to throw this out? The money and jewels were valuable! Was he serious? How ridiculous.
- Clara couldn't help but grumble inside.
- "Should I throw you out too?" Ryan's voice grew darker.
- Clara clutched the items and murmured, "Then throw me out! I'll go stay with Grandma!"
- "Are you threatening me?"
- Ryan's face darkened further. Clara recalled Grandma's words.
- "He's like a wolf; you have to play along to protect yourself."
- Quickly changing tactics, Clara put on a pitiful look and pleaded.
- "How could I? Throwing these away is a waste! Let's donate it tomorrow, alright? Have you ever been homeless, hungry, cold, and still driven away by others? It's miserable..."
- Ryan listened to her chatter, irritated, and finally said. "Fine, do as you like!"
- The first round went to Clara!
- Just as she smiled, a towel hit her head.
- "Go take a shower! Don't dirty my bathroom, don't touch my things, don't leave hair behind, don't move anything in the bathroom, and when you're done with your toiletries, put them back in the right place, and don't smell awful. And don't..."
- Clara felt overwhelmed by his endless list of "don'ts."
- Where did all these ridiculous demands come from?
- Clara muttered internally, but seeing Ryan's cold, distant figure, she turned around and obediently made her way to the bathroom.
- Once the door was closed, Clara found herself leaning against the sink, surveying the spotless, gleaming bathroom. Just seeing the perfectly aligned shampoo and bath products made her realize just how much of a neat freak Ryan must be.
- How could anyone live with someone like this without getting exhausted?
- Her eyes were drawn to a red basket filled with travel-sized disposable toiletries. She didn't even have to think twice. Ryan had definitely prepared this for her.
- Remembering all the "don'ts" he had thrown at her, Clara felt a surge of frustration.
- He actually said I smelled?
- Clara raised her hand and sniffed herself, scoffing in disbelief. Ever since she was a child, people had always complimented her soft, fair skin and her fresh, natural scent!
- And yet, he had the nerve to say, I stink. Clearly, there was something wrong with his nose! Would the rest of my days be this miserable? This was only the beginning, and I was already at my limit! No way! Hmph, I should teach him a lesson about his obsessive cleanliness!
- Clara began by opening a bottle of body wash and carelessly using the products on the shelf. Then, she picked out a bottle of essential oil with a mild scent, unscrewed the cap, and spilled it onto the floor, letting the fragrance fill the bathroom.
- Once everything was set, Clara undressed, wrapped herself in a towel, and stepped under the shower. She laid a towel on the floor to muffle the sound of the water, then lightly wet her hair and body with lukewarm water.
- Finally, she kicked the towel away and turned the water to its hottest setting. Intentionally burning her arm, she screamed out loud.
- "Ah!"
- Sure enough, the door burst open, and Ryan stormed in, enraged. "What are you doing?"
- As soon as he entered, the strong scent hit him. The bathroom was filled with steam. Clara, standing in a corner wrapped in a towel, had made a complete mess.
- With water gushing out, Ryan felt his temper rise with every step.
- Just taking a shower, and she had turned the bathroom into a disaster!
- Ryan hurried over and quickly turned off the shower. "Clara! Did you just ignore everything I told you?"
- Ryan was full of frustration!
- Clara didn't argue. She kept her head lowered and began to cry softly, "I'm sorry, I'll clean it up right away!"
- This time, she wasn't acting. She hadn't expected the water to be that hot, and her arm was burning badly.
- Ryan gave her a fierce glare.
- It wasn't until then that he noticed her arm was reddened.
- Under the soft glow of the evening lights, her skin seemed especially pale and tender.
