Chapter 4 I Can Give Him Back to You
- Hannah, her own sister.
- She was clad in luxurious designer clothes, holding a limited edition designer purse, and leading a boy who looked to be about four years old by the hand.
- Why did this boy look so much like Frederick?
- Could this be his child?
- Has someone just called Hannah Mrs. Ziegler?
- Don't tell me that this was the child my dear sister had with Frederick!
- "Mommy, who is she?" the boy beside Hannah asked.
- Hannah, still not fully recovered from her shock upon seeing Wynette, struggled to suppress the turmoil inside her and managed a forced smile. "She... You should call her Aunt Wynette; she's Mommy's sister."
- "Oh... she's the aunt Grandma mentioned who eloped with a random man."
- Wynette's brows furrowed. They thought she had eloped when she fled her wedding.
- "Is this your son?" she asked Hannah, her gaze fixed on the boy, feeling a surge of emotions inside.
- Hannah regained her composure, hiding the complex look in her eyes, and with feigned difficulty, she said, "Charlie is mine and Fred's son."
- Wynette's suspicion was confirmed, and her heart shook violently, "Your and Fred's son?" She repeated the words, her face turning pale.
- "When you disappeared on your wedding day, Mom had me stand in for you at the last minute with Fred," Hannah observed her reaction, suddenly changing her tone and angrily said, "Why did you stand Fred up? Do you have any idea how disgraceful that was for him? In front of all those relatives, friends, and media reporters, everyone was mocking him!"
- "I…" Wynette felt indeed guilty towards Frederick, but then she found it wasn't right; she fled her wedding because of Hannah!
- "The night before the wedding four years ago, you told me Fred was waiting for me at the hotel, but I was knocked out as soon as I entered, and Fred wasn't even there. Why did you lie to me!" Wynette stared at her sister, demanding an answer.
- Hannah's gaze flickered, then she noticed a familiar figure approaching from outside, and the words she was about to say changed, "Wynette, it wasn't that I wanted to steal Fred from you. It was truly because we couldn't find you, and Mom asked me to replace you. Now that you're back, I can give him back to you…"
- "Am I some sort of object to be passed around?" A man's voice, cold with anger, suddenly erupted.
- Wynette's body trembled slightly; even after four years, she recognized his voice in an instant.
- Frederick Ziegler, the man she was supposed to marry!
- Frederick never expected to see Wynette here; she had actually come back!
- Remembering how her running away had turned him into a laughingstock, anger surged within him. "Wynette, how dare you show up here?" His teeth clenched, his eyes filled with ferocity as if he wanted to tear her apart.
- "I…" Faced with the furious Frederick, Wynette opened her mouth but didn't know what to say.
- Hannah watched silently, then stepped closer to Frederick, taking his hand, and unexpectedly spoke up for Wynette, "Perhaps Wynette had her unavoidable reasons. Don't be angry at her."
- "Reasons?" Frederick scoffed coldly. "Fine then, let her tell us what reasons she had to leave me stranded on our wedding day?"
- "Wynette, come on, tell us what really happened?" Hannah seemed more anxious than her.
- "I…" Wynette wanted to reveal the reason, but thinking about what happened the night before the wedding... she had been violated by a stranger. How could she possibly say it out loud?
- "So? Can't say it?" Frederick's gaze turned even colder.
- "Daddy, Grandma said she eloped with a random man." The child suddenly spoke up.
- Hearing this, Frederick's eyes turned completely frigid. "Ha, right, how could I forget, you shameless woman!" He couldn't help but berate her.
- Wynette was utterly confused; why would her mother spread such lies to ruin her reputation?
- Even if her mother had never liked her, favoring only Hannah, she shouldn't treat her this way.
- "Wynette, I don't want to see you again. Go back to wherever you came from, or else I won't be so courteous," Frederick suddenly spoke harshly.
- "And furthermore…"
