Chapter 3 Find That Woman

  • "You... you..." Wynette stared unblinkingly at the man, and despite the dim lighting, she could see the well-defined muscles on his chest... and couldn't help but swallow.
  • There was a gash on his chest; what had wounded him?
  • Did he just ask me to help extract the poison?
  • This man was certainly taking liberties; why should I comply with such a request?
  • "Sorry, I can’t—"
  • Before Wynette could finish her refusal, the man forcefully pulled her down, her face almost crashing into his chest!
  • "Please, help me... I'll make it worth your while..." he began to gasp for breath, his voice growing weaker. Without immediate treatment for the poison, he would surely die.
  • Wynette had no reason to help a stranger, but she also couldn't stand idly by and watch a person die before her eyes.
  • "I... I'm not a bad person. You can trust me." Seeing her hesitation, the man spoke.
  • Their eyes met, unsure if it was a spell or if there was some kind of magic in his gaze. She found herself inexplicably bending down to suck the poisoned blood from his wound!
  • Her soft lips touched the bloody gash on his chest, and he involuntarily tensed up.
  • He watched her intently, his eyes shadowed and deep. She looked fearful and reluctant, yet she was extracting the poison for him.
  • As she bent down, the necklace around her neck slipped from beneath her shirt, revealing an dark jade ring.
  • Hudson Ziegler’s pupils sharply constricted; that ring looked just like the one he had lost four years ago...
  • Wynette’s scalp tingled as she drew the poisoned blood into her mouth and then spit it out several times to avoid poisoning herself.
  • "That should do it. Please don't bother me anymore. Whether you live or die is now up to fate." Having done what she could, she considered her duty fulfilled.
  • With firm resolve, Wynette got up, afraid he might grab her and not let go.
  • "Wait a minute..." Hudson said urgently, reaching out to pull her back, but she moved quickly this time.
  • Wynette didn’t look back as she ran out of the alley.
  • Just after she left, several men in black suits finally arrived. "Mr. Hudson, sorry we are late."
  • Hudson's eyes narrowed slightly. "At all costs, find the woman who was just here!"
  • That night four years ago, he had been drugged, and Raelyn Morgan had been his antidote.
  • But his dark jade ring also disappeared that night, though Raelyn claimed she hadn't seen the ring.
  • The dark jade ring was a symbol of authority for the Ziegler Family, passed down from generation to generation, and it couldn’t be lost on his watch!
  • If he wasn’t mistaken, the dark jade ring was on that woman.
  • How did the ring end up with her?
  • ...
  • Wynette returned cautiously, feeling somewhat guilty, afraid to face Frederick.
  • She didn't know what had happened after she fled their wedding; had he been ridiculed by everyone?
  • Besides finding her child’s father, she returned to uncover the truth about that night.
  • Four years ago, it was her sister, Hannah Fancey, who had told her that Frederick was waiting for her at the hotel. But she was knocked unconscious upon arrival and then violated by a stranger.
  • In her panic at the time, she hadn’t thought it through, but upon reflecting, she realized something was amiss and she needed to find out the truth.
  • Before coming back, Wynette had submitted her resume to a piano training school; she was scheduled for an interview today.
  • Arriving at the school, the receptionist told her, "Please wait here. I’ll inform the principal."
  • "Thank you," she replied.
  • She waited a moment, then heard footsteps approaching, not just one person.
  • "Ms. Halt, we'll be counting on you to find a good piano teacher for our Charlie."
  • "Mrs. Ziegler, don’t mention it. It's my duty."
  • Wynette recognized the familiar female voice. Mrs. Ziegler?
  • She turned around and found herself locking eyes with Hannah.
  • "You... Wynette?!" Hannah's eyes showed undeniable shock, disbelief etched across her face.
  • Wynette remained composed. "Hannah, long time no see."
  • She noticed the boy Hannah was holding by the hand, a child with a face almost a carbon copy of Frederick!
