Chapter 5 Accompanying His Wife Home

  • Life is perhaps a long journey. When the time comes, one naturally finds their destination.
  • Now that he was married, Lewis could no longer stay at the hotel. He checked out and moved into his new home to live with his wife. They slept in separate rooms in their two-story villa in Petunia Park. Winona had arranged for Lewis to sleep in the guest room.
  • After tidying up his room, Lewis hummed an unknown tune as he wandered downstairs. He was ready to explore the neighbourhood and get familiar with the area.
  • "Lewis, wait a moment," Winona called from behind.
  • "Darling, what's up?" Lewis quickly fell into character.
  • Winona forced herself to stay calm in the face of Lewis's casual flirting. She coldly replied, "Come with me to visit my parents. After all, we are married now."
  • "Oh! Got it. I promise to make a good impression on your parents," Lewis declared, raising his right hand solemnly.
  • Five minutes later, Winona drove a red Porsche out of the garage and stopped in front of Lewis.
  • "Can you drive?" she asked.
  • Lewis nodded.
  • "Good. You drive, I'll navigate," Winona said, stepping out of the driver's seat and moving to the passenger side.
  • Lewis got into the driver's seat, buckled up, and the car slowly exited Petunia Park.
  • Their destination was Silverwood, which was located in the southern suburbs of Kloria. It was where Winona's parents lived.
  • Half an hour later, the car stopped in front of a standalone villa. Just as they were about to enter, two black Audi cars suddenly pulled up behind their Porsche. A tall man at about 5'9'' with a handsome face, wearing a white suit and black shoes, showed up. He was sporting gold-rimmed glasses as he stepped out of the car with a bouquet of roses. He was followed by four robust bodyguards in black suits and sunglasses.
  • "Winona, your father said you'd be back tonight, so I came to see you," the man said, offering Winona the bright red roses.
  • Winona's eyes were cold as she spoke, "Don't bother. I'm married and can't accept your flowers."
  • Lewis, standing beside her, wrapped his arm around Winona's waist. He smiled as he said, "Darling, how can we refuse a gift? We can always use them as fertiliser later."
  • The man sneered coldly and rebuked, "What do you mean, kid? Let go of her right now, or I'll make sure you regret it!"
  • Despite Lewis taking liberties, Winona couldn't get frustrated at him, as she needed his cooperation. She remained expressionless and said, "Jeffrey, we are not that familiar. Please stop bothering me. I'm married now, and he's my husband. So, please leave."
  • "What? He's your husband?" Jeffrey Lawson asked, his anger evident in his voice. He was confident in his looks and status; Jeffrey couldn't believe Winona wasn't swayed.
  • Rolf Lawson, Jeffrey's father, ranked tenth on the country's richest people list. His family owned the Lawson Group. It was a multinational corporation involved in energy, real estate, hotels, and tourism. Despite his wealth and efforts, Winona remained uninterested. From the moment Jeffrey first saw Winona, he was determined to marry her, even gaining favor with her parents. But now, his dream has been shattered.
  • Jeffrey not only helped her in her career but also ignored all the other women to win her favour. However, his dreams were shattered. Jeffrey, unable to accept the reality, became angry and lost his usual calm demeanour. He grabbed Winona, longing for her even for one night.
  • He reached out to grab Winona, but Lewis moved swiftly. He delivered a quick and fierce leg sweep to Jeffrey.
  • Thud!
  • Jeffrey's body landed on the nearby grass.
  • Winona knew of Lewis's skills but was worried that Jeffrey's injury might provoke retaliation. Hesitantly, she spoke, "Let it go. His background is formidable. We shouldn't cause more trouble."
  • Hearing Winona's words, Lewis grinned and agreed, "Alright, I'll listen to my darling."
  • Jerk, even at this moment, he still tries to take advantage. He's such a jerk! Winona thought to herself.
  • By this time, Jeffrey's bodyguards had helped him up. Seeing the couple still flirting in front of him, he fumed and roared, "Kill him! I want that b*stard dead!"
  • At his command, the bodyguards rushed towards Lewis and attacked him.
  • With four bodyguards launching an attack at the same time, Lewis should be down by now. After all, they were highly skilled former Special Forces soldiers he had hired at great expense. Jeffrey thought, That pretty boy will be on his knees and begging for mercy soon enough.
  • Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud!
  • In a series of quick moves, the bodyguards were lying on the ground, unconscious.
  • Winona intervened to prevent Lewis from killing Jeffrey. They headed towards the mansion's entrance.
  • Watching the two walk away, Jeffrey clenched his fists tightly. You sl*t! I treated you so well, but you don't appreciate it. Just wait; I'll make you pay.
  • They rang the doorbell, and a middle-aged woman opened the door.
  • "Eva, are my parents home?" Winona asked.
  • "They're in the living room watching TV. Go see them. I need to finish making dinner," Eva replied before turning away.
  • Winona came from a well-educated family and had a younger sister studying abroad. Her parents were both university professors. They had focused on their careers before starting a family in their thirties. Now retired, they enjoyed a quiet life at home. Eva was a middle-aged housekeeper who was hired by Winona to take care of her parents.
  • An elderly man in a suit sat on the sofa in the living room. His neat hair and dignified appearance, despite the wrinkles on his face, indicated his advanced age. He wore reading glasses, exuding a scholarly aura.
  • This was Winona's father, Henry Tate. Beside him was a woman in her fifties, still charming, with features resembling Winona's. This was her mother, Lara Riley.
  • Lewis felt right at home. He started chatting with Winona's parents. His witty humour had them laughing heartily.
  • During dinner, Winona announced her marriage to her parents. They were supportive, both culturally and in terms of understanding the importance of love in marriage. They had pressured Winona to marry early, hoping she wouldn't miss out on her youth as they did by marrying late.
  • Their daughter had chosen Lewis, and they had already registered their marriage, so they accepted him as their son-in-law. Lewis's attractive looks and eloquent conversation made a good impression on them.
  • Watching Lewis interact with her parents from a distance, Winona found herself puzzled by him. His handsome appearance, excellent conversational skills, incredible fighting ability, and a bit of a rogue attitude made her extremely curious about his background.
  • When a woman becomes curious about a man, it usually means she is beginning to fall for him.
