Chapter 7 Striking in the Shadows

  • Lewis and Winona separated inside Westbrook Precinct to prevent them from coordinating their stories.
  • Lewis was escorted by two officers in the interrogation room and seated on a chair.
  • "Name, age, place of birth," a young policeman asked Lewis.
  • "Lewis Snow, 25 years old, from Kloria," Lewis replied seriously.
  • "You're suspected of intentionally causing bodily harm to two individuals in the mall earlier, who are now hospitalised in critical condition," the officer stated.
  • "They were harassing my wife. I acted in self-defence," Lewis replied coldly.
  • Just then, the lead officer entered the interrogation room.
  • The officers taking notes exclaimed, "Captain Samuel, he refuses to admit to intentionally causing harm."
  • "Son, the two guys we sent to the hospital are seriously injured after treatment. It would help if you told us the truth," Captain Samuel said icily, staring at Lewis.
  • Lewis sat calmly on the chair, silent. In his head, he was figuring out his next move. It looked like relying on normal ways to get out of there was unlikely. He'd have to ask for help.
  • "Look, I'm here to cooperate and explain the situation. I'm not a criminal. Now, I need to make a phone call," Lewis finally spoke after a pause.
  • "No can do. You can only contact people once we've sorted this out. Besides, we have the right to detain you for 48 hours," Captain Samuel replied firmly.
  • Lewis reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, swiftly dialling a number he had in mind.
  • "I said no calls. Do you not understand?"
  • Captain Samuel approached Lewis, trying to grab the phone from him.
  • Smack!
  • Lewis slapped Captain Samuel hard, knocking him to the ground nearby. Witnessing this, two officers pulled out their batons and swung at Lewis.
  • Bang! Bang!
  • After a few moves, the two policemen and Captain Samuel found themselves on the ground, unable to move.
  • The phone call connected, and a gruff voice answered, "Hello!"
  • "It's Lewis."
  • The voice on the other end responded, "You're back. Come visit me when you get some spare time."
  • "I'm currently detained at the police station. Can't make it," Lewis replied.
  • "Who dares detain you? You've contributed to the country. Have you gotten into trouble?" the voice asked.
  • Lewis briefly explained the situation. The person on the phone asked him to wait and that they would handle the rest.
  • After hanging up, Lewis looked at the three police officers in front of him with disdain. "I've said all I needed to say. You wait."
  • "Do you realise what you've done? You've assaulted an officer. This is a crime," Captain Samuel said, rubbing his face where Lewis had slapped him.
  • Lewis's fierce slap had left Captain Samuel's face swollen. He couldn't swallow the humiliation without sending him to prison. Besides, Matthew had promised him 750,000 dollars once the job was done. How could he not be tempted?
  • Lewis had just called his former superior, Ashford Steele, the leader of the Dragon Squad Association and the only general in Agron not bound by any constraints. So, he was confident.
  • "I'm a lawful citizen of Agron. I'm just here to cooperate with your recording. Put away your usual tactics. Please don't force me to act. Just wait!" Lewis's expression was icy, his eyes piercing like daggers as he stared at Captain Samuel.
  • This guy's presence is terrifying, like a bloodthirsty beast. Captain Samuel felt Lewis's aura and was so scared he broke out in a cold sweat, standing silently on the side. The two policemen stood quietly behind Captain Samuel.
  • Minutes ticked by. Ten minutes later, a black business car stopped at the entrance of the Southbrook Precinct.
  • Two men in black T-shirts entered the interrogation room. They stared at Captain Samuel and the others and asked, "Are you in charge here?"
  • Captain Samuel looked up, carefully observing the newcomers, and furrowed his brow. "I'm Captain Samuel Grant, in charge of the Southbrook Precinct. Who are you?"
  • One of the men threw a red notebook into Captain Samuel's lap. "We're here to take this person. Release him quickly."
  • Captain Samuel opened the red notebook and saw the words 'Captain Ashford Steele of the Dragon Squad Association.' His heart skipped a beat, and his hands trembled as he nearly dropped the notebook.
  • He thought to himself, Who is this guy? Even people from the Dragon Squad Association are here, an association with considerable influence in Agron.
  • Seeing the newcomers, Lewis spoke up, "And my wife. I'm taking her with me, too."
  • Captain Samuel immediately turned to the two policemen behind him and said, "Officer Rachel, Officer Megan, quickly bring the girl who just came in with this man."
  • Captain Samuel regretted a bit in his heart. If he had known, he wouldn't have tried to please Matthew. Not only did he get slapped, but he might also lose his job.
  • Lewis looked at Captain Samuel, whose expression kept changing and thought, Captain Samuel, though not that great, is in a position of power now. I'll probably have to deal with him in the future. Best to smooth things over now. It might come in handy for small matters later.
  • "Captain Samuel, don't worry about what just happened. We might have to get contact in the future," Lewis said with a slight smile.
  • Hearing Lewis's words, Captain Samuel felt relieved. It seemed Lewis was letting him off the hook. This will pave a new path for Captain Samuel's career.
  • "No problem, it's all about getting to know each other. Here's my number. Let's have a meal together sometime," Captain Samuel said with a smile. However, his swollen face from Lewis's slap looked quite unsightly, which Lewis found amusing.
  • Meanwhile, in the office, Winona was closely guarded by a policewoman, still worried about Lewis and thinking of ways to help him. If necessary, she might have to plead with Jeffrey to rescue Lewis. Unexpectedly, two policemen came to tell her she could leave and brought her to Lewis.
  • As for Matthew, he had been in Captain Samuel's office for a while, waiting for news of Lewis's punishment. After half an hour without any news, he was just about to leave to check when he saw Lewis and Winona preparing to leave. What was going on?
  • "Captain Samuel, what's happening? How can this suspected assailant just leave? Is this how you police handle things?"
  • Matthew asked, still needing clarification about the situation.
  • Captain Samuel felt like dying inside. Didn't Matthew see those two men in black? Can someone from The Lizard compete with the Dragon Squad Association?
  • "Now that we've cooperated and finished the interrogation, can we leave?" Lewis smiled at Captain Samuel.
  • "Yes, you can go now," Captain Samuel nodded in agreement.
  • Lewis walked up to Matthew with a smile, patted his shoulder, and quietly channelled some energy into his acupoints, gradually harming his kidneys. Matthew had no idea what had just happened, but within a month, he would be completely crippled.
  • As Lewis and Winona walked out of the Southbrook Precinct, the two Dragon Squad Association members said nothing and drove away.
  • "You better leave too, Mr. Matthew. That guy has serious connections. Those two men in black were here to take him away. Take my advice and take care of yourself," Captain Samuel said before leaving with the two policemen.
  • "You b*stard, just wait. I'll make sure you regret crossing me," Matthew snarled in the empty lobby, his face twisted in fury.
