Chapter 9 The Lizard's Remus

  • Lewis and Sacha sat facing each other in a cosy private room near the school.
  • Lewis had a smile on his face as he asked Sacha, "Graduation is coming up. Any plans?"
  • Sacha confidently answered Lewis's question, "I want to intern at a company for a while and then think about my future."
  • "Have you found one yet?" Lewis asked gently.
  • "Not yet. There are so many graduates. Nowadays, you need connections or referrals. Otherwise, you have to go from company to company for interviews," Sacha replied with a slight pout.
  • "Alright, let's eat first. We'll talk more after," Lewis warmly served Sacha some food.
  • Manfred often talked about his adorable younger sister in front of Lewis. He frequently mentioned Lewis's name to Sacha when communicating with her via letters. Though they were familiar with each other, they had never met. Today was their first meeting, and the atmosphere was pleasant, with both enjoying the conversation.
  • Lewis sipped his beer and smoked, gradually preparing himself emotionally. Thinking about the words he would bring up soon made him feel a bit nervous.
  • "Hey, Lewis, why aren't you eating?" Sacha asked Lewis with an adorable smile, noticing he was drinking.
  • "I'm full. You eat more. After we finish, there's something I need to tell you," Lewis said with a slightly uneasy expression.
  • Watching Sacha's lively and adorable demeanour beside him, Lewis honestly struggled to break the news about Manfred. But as Manfred's only sister, Sacha had every right to know. Lewis felt he couldn't selfishly keep it hidden any longer.
  • "Sacha, you should be prepared for this," Lewis calmly told Sacha.
  • Hearing Lewis' words, Sacha had a sinking feeling in her heart. Could something have happened to her brother? He hadn't written to her in a long time.
  • Lewis took out a butterfly knot woven with red string from his pocket and placed it in front of Sacha. Slowly, he began, "Your brother sacrificed himself."
  • Boom!
  • When Sacha heard Lewis say those words, she froze. The worst thing she feared had finally happened. When Lewis had warned her to be prepared, she had a hunch. She couldn't believe she had been right.
  • Tears streamed down Sacha's face uncontrollably. Sobbing, she choked out, "How did my brother die?"
  • A heavy silence filled the room. Seeing Sacha's tear-streaked face, Lewis comforted her gently, "It's all my fault, a mistake in command. Cry if you need to. Let it all out. Don't hold it in."
  • Sob.
  • With tear-streaked cheeks, Sacha picked up the butterfly knot from the table, her mind involuntarily recalling the scene from back then. "It was a sunny morning. I stayed up all night making this lucky butterfly knot with red string, and I gave it to my brother, who was about to go abroad for work. But then my brother ... "
  • Meanwhile, Lewis and Sacha were having their heart-to-heart in the private room. Dominic, who had been beaten, had already contacted Remus, the leader of the Wolf Gang from The Lizard, and was preparing to seek revenge on Lewis.
  • With a history spanning hundreds of years, The Lizard boasted prominent associates like the War Gang, Tiger Gang, Wolf Gang, Leopard Gang, and the Punishment Gang, all renowned in Kloria. These associates alone had over 20,000 members, not to mention countless peripheral associates.
  • Finally, a student spotted Lewis's car parked outside the restaurant and pinpointed the private room where he was. Dominic was waiting in the restaurant for The Lizard's men to arrive. Being slapped in public and then fleeing had greatly embarrassed him.
  • Fifteen minutes later, Bison, underboss of the Wolf Gang, arrived with a dozen burly men in black. Remus still hoped to ally with Dominic, considering the intimidating title of Commander of the Kloria Garrison. Hearing Dominic wanted to teach a young man a lesson, he promptly dispatched his proud underlings.
  • The group forcefully kicked open the door to Lewis's private room.
  • Lewis had been consoling Sacha when suddenly the door burst open. His expression changed as he pointed at Dominic and cursed, "It's you again. Do you want me to finish you off?"
  • Dominic, encouraged by his numbers, was fearless of Lewis. Seeing Lewis embracing his goddess Sacha only fuelled his rage. "Bison, kill him for me. I'll take responsibility if things go wrong."
  • Bison, a stout man, had been carefully eyeing Lewis since entering the room. He noticed Lewis's imposing stature and muscular build, likely a formidable opponent. However, remembering the boss' orders, he was quick. A dozen men in black pulled out their distinctive machetes and charged at Lewis.
  • Sacha had never witnessed such a scene. Still shocked, she saw Lewis swiftly lift the dining table before him and smash it towards the charging men. The room echoed with the sound of crashing tables and bodies, and within moments, a dozen men in black were sprawled on the floor, unable to get up.
  • Just as Dominic was astonished by Lewis' speed, Lewis was already in front of him. He grabbed Dominic's collar with his left hand and delivered a resounding slap with his right.
  • Smack!
  • Dominic's already swollen right cheek puffed up even more.
  • "Didn't I warn you that if you bother Sacha again, I'll finish you?" Lewis's menacing voice echoed in Dominic's ears.
  • "Since you don't know how to behave, today I'll finish you off," Lewis declared with a ruthless expression, sending chills down many people's spines.
  • "Lewis, don't!" Sacha's voice suddenly appeared behind Lewis.
  • Sacha couldn't describe her feelings when facing the man in front of her. She only knew he was a good friend of her brother's, as her brother often mentioned him in his letters. Seeing his concern and protection towards her now, she felt deeply moved. However, knowing Dominic's influential background, she didn't want Lewis to get into trouble because of her. So, she spoke up to stop him.
  • "What's wrong, Sacha? Are you asking me to let him go?" Lewis turned to Sacha with a smile.
  • "Lewis, Dominic is just being arrogant. Besides, his family background is quite influential. I think it's better to let it go," Sacha explained.
  • Lewis always followed the motto: "If you have a problem, let's settle it." However, since Sacha spoke up for Dominic, he let it slide. After all, she was Manfred's sister.
  • "Listen to me carefully. Today, I'll let you go because of Sacha. But if there's a next time, I won't show any mercy," Lewis said coldly to Dominic.
  • Lewis left the chaotic restaurant with Sacha, leaving Dominic and his crew staring at each other in disbelief.
  • Dominic's face was swollen and burned with anger. Being humiliated twice in front of Lewis and seeing his crush, Sacha, seek comfort in Lewis's arms made him seethe with frustration. How could he endure this humiliation?
  • Bison cautiously suggested beside him, "Mr. Dominic, that guy is too skilled. Maybe we should have the Boss come in person. With the Boss handling it, it'll be a piece of cake."
  • Dominic, consumed by rage, had lost all rationality. He nodded in agreement, forgetting Lewis's warning completely.
  • Bison, whose body was primarily fat, dialled a number and called his boss, Remus, "Boss, that guy is too tough. I think you need to handle it yourself. We're getting beat here."
  • Remus, whose real name was Marcus Voss, had joined The Lizard at 16. Known for his boldness, meticulousness, and cruelty, he became the leader of Wolf Gang before he was 30. Now, hearing that his men couldn't handle one person, he was furious. If this guy could take down a dozen of them, could he take down a few hundred? Gathering over two hundred of his men, Remus headed straight to where Bison and his crew were.
