• We were all gathered in the living room, but my mind was far from the conversation. Mom was talking about wanting to adopt a new dog, but all I could think about was Coraline. Knowing that she was the one behind the threatening calls had me on edge, and I was seething with anger every time I looked at her. I had known this for some time now, and I knew I needed to confront her, but that would have to wait. My focus had shifted entirely when Ava told me about what my dad had done to her mom.
