Chapter 29 Silent Auction (Part Two)

• Balls, galas and auctions have never been my style.
• I hated these occasions more than anything. Too many fake smiles and greetings to handle in one night. Too much obvious courting. It was like bringing all the cheating and corrupt bastards under one roof and asking them to spend their money on an object that they obviously own in dozens.
• Of course, there were some genuine attendees too, but that was like looking for a needle in a haystack. With a mom like mine, I couldn’t get away without attending at least one gala every year, and even that was too much for me to bear. I’m sure these functions could be really enjoyable for some people, but I’ve never been that person. I don’t think I ever would be.
