Chapter 17 Anne’s Matter Is Also My Concern
- "Okay."
- Anne nodded and walked past Harper. Suddenly, her wrist was grabbed by him as he yelled, "You're not allowed to move out! This is your home!"
- Harper's grasp was so tight that Anne felt like her wrist was going to break.
- However, she glared at him and questioned, "Home? Do you even understand what a home is? Home is a haven, a warm space where I can get some comfort when I'm having a rough day outside. Dad, ask yourself, have you ever given me the warmth and comfort I've been longing for? Have you ever cared about how I've felt in this household?"
- "What are you talking about? Everyone in this family tried so hard to please you, what are you not satisfied with? Jaiden wakes up early to prepare breakfast for you. Moreover, wasn't it always Jaiden who had your back when you got into trouble? Wasn't it Jaiden who said nice things about you? Look at your sister, she's afraid of you. We've always been giving you the best we can. What are you still unhappy with? Do you still have any conscience, Anne?" Harper was seething with rage when he replied.
- Anne knew that Harper would have hit her if Zeke was absent.
- She felt that she had nothing to say to Harper anymore.
- Jaiden was a good actor. She played the role of a good wife and mother in front of Harper all the time. Jaiden knew very well how she treated Anne behind his back.
- Anne could still remember what happened when she was a child. Jaiden would treat Anne with delicious food and would not even allow Amy to have a taste of it when Harper was at home. However, as soon as he left, she took the food away from Anne and forced her to do chores.
- Anne had been enduring Jaiden's abuse all this time. However, Harper was oblivious to any of that.
- Whenever she complained to Harper about this, he would always yell at her for it.
- Anne did not want to talk about Amy.
- Harper did not realize how Jaiden and Amy acted behind his back, so there was no point in bringing this issue up.
- So, this only disappointed Anne further.
- "Dad, I know very well whether I still have a conscience or not. I'm moving out today!"
- Anne was determined. It infuriated Harper so much that he raised his hand, but he was stopped mid-air.
- "Mr. Lloyd, I think you should ask why Anne wants to move out."
- Zeke was strong. Although Harper had trained before, he was no match for Zeke.
- "Zeke, this is a family matter."
- "Anne's matter is my concern, I made a promise to Mr. Miller. Mrs. Lloyd sent a beautiful woman and contacted media reporters to block the entrance the day I came back, and that beauty was Anne. Did you know about this?"
- Harper was stunned as soon as he heard Zeke.
- "What did you say?"
- "I'm saying that your wife drugged your daughter and had her delivered to my bed. She also made the reporters block the door so she could embarrass me. Although I'm not really an important person in the Miller family, I don't think I should be treated this way. Since you've already treated me like this, I'm suspicious of what you did to her for all these years. And so, I'm taking her back with me. If you're not okay with it, you're always welcome to take her back from the Miller family. I'm not someone that you can mess around with."
- Zeke let go of Harper after he was done talking. Then, hugged Anne tightly.
- "You don't need to pack your stuff anymore. I'll buy everything you need."
- Anne was tearing up when she fell into Zeke's arms.
- She had no intentions in telling Harper about how she felt.
- She knew that he would never believe her even if she had told him anyway.
- Anne was used to Harper turning a blind eye to her.
- However, Anne still felt uncomfortable when Zeke wanted her to speak her mind.
- Beady tears rolled down her cheeks and soaked Zeke's uniform. This ached Zeke's heart.
- "Don't cry, I promise that no harm will come to you as long as I'm here."
- Zeke stretched out his fingers and wiped Anne's tears before leaving with her.
- Harper was so stunned by what he heard that it took him a good long while before he regained his senses.
- He knew that Zeke was not the kind of person who would lie about anything. Furthermore, he was more surprised at what Jaiden did to Anne.
- "Anne."
- Harper suddenly stopped Anne.
- Anne turned around as soon as he called out to her.
- She wanted to hear what he had to say.
- She was holding out hope that maybe Harper might embrace her like any father would.
- However, she was greeted by Harper's bitter expression.
- He said, "This must be a misunderstanding. Jaiden would never do such a thing."
- Upon hearing that, any remnants of care she had for her father vanished instantly.
- "Misunderstanding? So be it. From now on, I will no longer have any relationship with the Lloyd family."
- After speaking, Anne turned around in anger and left while holding Zeke's hand.
