Chapter 12 I'm Busy
- Zeke grinned. He felt happy just by looking at Anne sleeping peacefully.
- Footsteps could be heard coming from outside. Zeke frowned then went back to his office.
- Lewis walked in as soon as he sat down.
- "Zeke."
- "What's the matter, Dr. Preston?"
- Zeke raised his head and glanced at Liz. He then continued to read the documents he was holding.
- Liz felt a little awkward.
- She rushed over to Zeke's office as soon as she heard everyone talking about him carrying a girl to his office. However, seeing how Zeke treated her indifferently, she could not help but feel a little disappointed.
- "Do the third and fourth military units need to be accompanied by a military doctor?"
- Liz paused for a long time and finally found a perfect excuse.
- Zeke raised his head once more. He looked at Liz with his piercing gaze.
- Liz froze, and her palms were getting sweaty.
- Zeke always had a powerful aura around him, which sapped her confidence.
- "I just wanted to be sure."
- "Military doctors should be on call at all times during the military drill. I think even a novice military doctor knows this rule. What's up with you, Dr. Preston?"
- Zeke's tone was not gentle, even when he was speaking to a woman.
- Liz felt her face burning up. However, she had to be sure of everything since she had already entered the office.
- "Yes, Capt. Garrett, it's my fault."
- Zeke remained silent after hearing her apology and lowered his head.
- Liz felt a little embarrassed.
- She bit her lip and looked around. However, she could not see any trace of a woman in the room. She started to question herself since everybody was talking about it.
- Where’s the woman? Is she in the lounge? Liz thought as she glanced toward the lounge.
- The door was ajar, but she could not see what was inside.
- Liz frowned, then grinned at Zeke. "Capt. Garrett, I was on duty this morning, so I didn't have the time to clean up the office for you. Please let me do so right now."
- After finishing her sentence, she immediately picked up the broom and walked toward the lounge.
- Zeke paused and said in a low voice, "Dr. Preston, just focus on your job. If you have nothing to do, just get out. I'm afraid there would be rumors about you if you stay here for too long."
- Liz halted. She gripped the broom tightly as she gritted her teeth.
- She wanted to cause a scandal with Zeke, but she knew he would not like that.
- "I only wanted to help you."
- "I don't need your help," Zeke said while flipping through his documents. "Close the door on your way out. Thanks."
- Liz no longer had a reason to stay there anymore.
- She was a little angry and unwilling to do so, but she could not do anything about it.
- Looking at his cold expression, Liz felt displeased.
- Zeke did not want to talk to her anymore, and staying there for a longer time would annoy him further.
- Liz took a deep breath and tried her best to stay calm. "Capt. Garrett, you still owe me a cup of coffee."
- "Yeah, I remember. I'll send you the best coffee the area has to offer when I'm having a military drill."
- Zeke's words almost made Liz choke.
- Zeke obviously knew that was not what she meant.
- "No, I mean…"
- "Dr. Preston, I'm really busy now. I have a meeting to attend later,” Zeke said coldly.
- Liz knew better than to be a nuisance to him.
- "I understand, I'll be leaving then."
- She bit her lip and left reluctantly.
- Zeke lowered his head and squeezed the pen in his hand.
- He did not know what Liz's intentions were, but he knew that she was not his type.
- He glanced at the lounge subconsciously and warmth glowed in his eyes.
- Zeke's efficiency improved because of Anne's presence in his office.
- Anne slept soundly. When she opened her eyes, she was taken aback by the unfamiliar sight in front of her.
- "Huh, where am I?"
- She jolted awake and rubbed her eyes. She then looked around and caught sight of a military uniform next to her.
- A military uniform?
- Is this Uncle Zeke's room?
- Anne got out of bed and opened the door of the lounge gently.
- It was an office on the outside. There was a bookshelf and a desk in it.
- Anne did not see Zeke.
- "Uncle Zeke?"
- Anne called his name twice, but no one answered her.
- She mustered her courage and went inside the office to look around. She found some military-related things, but they did not pique her interest.
- Anne opened another door inside the office, and her attention was caught by the scene on the training ground.
- There seemed to be combat training going on.
- Zeke stood there in a military vest. He had tanned skin and a sturdy physique, though his expression was harsh as usual.
- Anne noticed that Zeke was handsome and cool at that moment. Everything in her field of vision paled at the sight of him.
