Chapter 13 What's the Matter?

  • Uncle Zeke is so handsome!
  • Anne could not help but think. She did not want to take her eyes away from him.
  • "Ms. Lloyd."
  • Anne almost jumped up in shock after hearing a voice behind her.
  • She turned back and saw a soldier standing behind her.
  • "Yes?"
  • "I'm Xavier Sanders, Capt. Garrett's orderly sergeant. He ordered me to take you to the cafeteria to have something to eat once you wake up. This is a base camp, and it's inconvenient for you to go anywhere without a pass."
  • Xavier was not snooty, which made Anne feel a little relieved.
  • "Oh, is that so? Thank you."
  • Sure enough, the one who knew her best was her uncle.
  • "You're welcome, Ms. Lloyd."
  • "Just call me Anne. I think we're the same age."
  • Anne felt a little embarrassed after hearing Xavier calling her “Ms.Lloyd.”
  • "Yes, Anne." Xavier did not object.
  • "I don't want to go to the cafeteria though. Xavier, can you please bring me food instead? It'll attract a lot of attention since I'm a girl, and if they know my uncle brought an outsider to the base, he might be punished." Anne smiled awkwardly.
  • Xavier was surprised by the request, but he soon grinned. "Sure."
  • He did not tell Anne that she had already started a scandal at the base. Everyone already knew that Capt. Garrett carried a girl to his office.
  • Anne watched Xavier leave, then continued to watch Zeke.
  • Zeke was sparring with his colleagues on the field.
  • Every move he made was filled with masculinity.
  • The sun shone on his face as his sweat dripped everywhere. Anne suddenly had the urge to draw as she watched Zeke.
  • Hurriedly, she bolted to the office and took out some paper and pencils from the drawer.
  • She found something to support the paper, picked up a pencil, and started drawing.
  • When Xavier got back, he did not want to disturb her when he saw her absorbed in her drawing and left the food in the office
  • Anne's fingers were long and slender. Although her right hand was injured, it did not bother her strokes at all.
  • Her eyes were drawn to Zeke, and she outlined his charm that cannot be expressed in words.
  • Anne finally finished her drawing.
  • "Done!" Anne heaved a sigh.
  • Zeke's charming figure and strength were captured perfectly on the paper.
  • Anne noticed that Zeke was incredibly handsome.
  • "You draw very well, Ms. Lloyd," Xavier said with admiration.
  • "Huh, Xavier? You're back?"
  • Anne put away the pencils and stood up to look at Xavier.
  • "Yes, I didn't want to disturb you while you were drawing."
  • "It's fine, at least I entertained you."
  • Anne took the pencils and paper back to the office and placed them at the side of the desk. Then, she began to eat.
  • "The food here is delicious."
  • "It's not bad."
  • Xavier did not mention that he used Zeke's debit card. The kitchen staff thought Zeke wanted to eat, so they made a meal specially for him.
  • "Do you want to have some?"
  • "No, it's yours, Ms. Lloyd." Xavier said while rubbing the back of his neck.
  • If he ate Anne's meal, Zeke would have made him run six miles. It was not worth the risk.
  • "What are you guys talking about? You seem happy."
  • Zeke returned from his training.
  • "Uncle Zeke!" Anne called him, which made him smile.
  • Xavier finally understood that both of them were relatives.
  • No wonder Capt. Garrett was so attentive toward her.
  • "I'm going for training now, sir."
  • "Alright."
  • Zeke waved his hand as Xavier left.
  • "Uncle Zeke, you were so cool just now!" Anne held the drawing in her hand as she ate. "Look, I even drew a portrait of you!"
  • A trace of emotions flashed across Zeke's eyes.
  • He took the drawing from Anne and looked at it while grinning. His smile was a genuine one from the heart.
  • Anne was stunned.
  • "You should smile more, Uncle Zeke. That way, you'd attract more girls, and Grandpa wouldn't be worried that you can’t find a girlfriend."
  • Zeke paused, then put the drawing away as if nothing happened. He placed it somewhere close to his heart.
  • "What about you? Did my smile attract you?"
  • Anne froze at those words.
  • He glanced at Anne, picked up a towel, and headed to the bathroom.
  • Anne was brought to her senses after hearing the sound of flowing water.
  • Did Uncle Zeke just flirt with me?
  • "Cough! Don't you tease me like this in the future, Uncle Zeke!"
  • Anne shouted as if to prove something.
  • Suddenly, the bathroom door flung open.
  • Zeke stuck his head out with his shirtless body and said, "What did you say?"
  • His hair was drenched, and water droplets dripped down his handsome face, down his neck, and onto his firm chest…
  • The sight took away Anne’s breath. She quickly turned around.
