Chapter 15 This Is Your Home From Now On
- "I think you'd like a beautiful girl like Dr. Preston."
- Anne raised her head and smiled brightly. On the other hand, Zeke's expression was gloomy.
- "We're just colleagues."
- "Well, you can be more than colleagues. Plus, I think Dr. Preston likes you, Uncle Zeke."
- However, Anne did not know how hard Zeke was suppressing his anger. She continued, "Let's invite Dr. Preston to dinner sometime. I owe her a favor."
- Zeke wanted to refuse, but he did not want to miss out on the opportunity to have dinner with Anne.
- "Alright then. You can decide when we'll have dinner."
- "Really? Then you have to come along, Uncle Zeke!"
- "Of course!"
- Xavier handed the coat to Zeke while they were talking.
- Zeke put on his coat, and it grabbed Anne's attention.
- "You're so cool, Uncle Zeke! I also want my future boyfriend to be a soldier. Please introduce me to any soldier friends of yours that are as capable as you."
- Anne's words caught the attention of the other soldiers.
- Zeke glared at them and asked, "Are there not enough missions for you today?"
- "No, sir!" The soldiers ran away.
- They did not want to risk angering Zeke.
- Anne laughed after watching just how much Zeke terrified the soldiers.
- "Oh, you're so stern, Uncle Zeke. You scared all of them away."
- "Stern? Hmph, Let's go. I'll take you home.
- The duo left the base soon after.
- Anne's heart sank when she realized what Zeke was talking about earlier.
- "I don't wanna go home, Uncle Zeke."
- "I want you to return home and pack your things. You will be moving in with me from now."
- Anne was shocked to hear what Zeke said even though he was not speaking loudly.
- "I'm not going to Grandpa's place!"
- "I didn't say that you'd be living with Mr. Miller anyway."
- "You told me that I'd be living with you."
- Anne bit her lip while she pleaded with him.
- Anne groaned in pain when Zeke flicked her forehead as he sighed.
- "Why did you do that, Uncle Zeke? It hurts!"
- "I mean you're just too dull right now. I thought I'd be able to make you smarter by doing that."
- "You'd only be making me dumber by hitting me."
- "So you're admitting that you're dumb?"
- Anne was rendered speechless after hearing that.
- "You!"
- "Alright, I don't wanna argue with you any longer. I'm the chief of the military region and have my own house there. You can move in with me first." Zeke explained.
- Hearing that made Anne realize something as she said, "Oh yeah, I forgot. You're the chief now. You don't need to live in a dormitory. Plus, I happen to be pretty upset lately. Thanks, Uncle Zeke."
- Anne was beaming and felt much better after that.
- Just then, Anne's phone rang.
- She looked at who the caller was and her heart throbbed after noticing how familiar the string of numbers were.
- She clenched her fists and it seemed that her mood had turned sour from that call.
- "You don't need to answer it if you don't want to."
- Zeke knew who the caller was after noticing Anne's reaction.
- Who else could make her feel upset besides Shawn?
- Anne nodded and turned off her phone.
- "Uncle Zeke, can you help me apply for another card? I don't want to use this one anymore."
- "Alright."
- Zeke would always do his best when it came to Anne's requests.
- Anne felt better after that.
- It was already time for lunch when they got home.
- Anne looked at the door and her expression changed.
- "What's wrong?"
- Zeke waited for her to get out of the car and noticed the anguished look in her eyes.
- Anne shook her head and said, "Ever since my mom passed away, this place doesn't feel like home anymore. I feel so unfamiliar with it every time I return. He's my dad, but I feel like I'm getting more distant from him every time I see him."
- Zeke opened his arms to embrace her.
- "My place will be your home from now on."
- "Thanks, Uncle Zeke."
- Anne teared up when she hugged Zeke.
- "Come on now, I'll head in with you."
- So, the duo exited the car.
- Perhaps Anne felt much more comfortable because of Zeke's presence.
- She opened the door and walked into the hall. She saw Jaiden, Amy, and Harper sitting on the sofa talking about something.
- Amy looked very gitty while hugging Harper's arm. This ached Anne's heart.
- She wondered when was the last time her father had hugged her like this as she could not remember anymore.
- She could not remember what being embraced by Harper felt like. Moreover, they would always fight whenever they meet.
- However, it just seemed like he favored Amy much more than her.
- Watching that truly hurt her as she felt like a stranger in her own home.
