• Jason's hands gripped the wheel a little tighter as he navigated the empty road, the darkness outside feeling strangely like a weight pressing in on him.
• He was so deep in thought that it wasn’t until he reached to adjust the radio that he remembered his phone. It had been silent for hours, tucked away in the center console. He hadn’t bothered to check it, not when everything with Bethany had consumed his attention.
• He reached for it now, fingers stiff as he fumbled to unlock it, and his eyes widened when the screen flashed to life.
