Chapter 8 She Fought Back

She said to him, "you will have to forgive me. It has been a very busy day. I am kind of tired from running around and would be very happy to have an early night."
He perfectly understood, he has also experienced the house search and he knows how tiring it was.
Little did he know that this was not the real reason why she did not want to discuss such things. She was trying to avoid the topic about her mother.
He said to her, "then I guess I will see you when you come back from the farm. I am working a night shift and you will probably be gone by the time I come back from work."
She smiled and said, "I think so, I will be leaving first thing tomorrow morning."
Brandon said, "then I guess, this is a goodbye."
She said, "thank you so much for your help. I will see you when I come back."
He closed the door and there was a smile on his face. It seems as if the Heavens have brought the girl he has always had a crush on very close to him.
He only prays that there was no man in her life but then he thought if there was a man then she wouldn't have done the shopping on her own, now wouldn't she?
He shrugged his shoulders, he will only have answers to his questions once he spends more time with her.
She locked the door after he got out then she decided to go take a bath. She soaked herself in the bathtub and felt refreshed after taking the bath.
She sat on the bed and a part of her wanted to search online about Elic. She was still curious on the things he was doing back there.
She then told herself that she will never be able to heal properly if she will allow herself to think about a man that has broken her heart.
She will need to teach herself not to look at any news that have to do with the man that she is trying to heal herself from.
She took her phone and read a novel. She was trying her best to distract herself from thinking about Elic. She fell asleep while reading the novel. That is just how tired her body was.
When Brandon got back to his flat. His mom saw a smile on his face and said, "hmmm, that smile is not a smile I have seen for quite a long time. Who is the girl that has stolen my boy's heart?"
He frowned and said, "no one has stolen my heart mom."
His mom said, "you can fool someone else my boy and not me."
He did not answer his mom's question but he said instead, "Faith is the new tenant you called me and told me about earlier on."
His mom was very shocked, she has not really seen the face of the person moving things into the flat. However she did see the back of the person.
She saw that it was a female who seems to be young too. She said, "is she moving in with someone?"
Brandon said, "no mom, she will be living on her own."
His mom smiled then said, "then I guess you should invite her over for dinner."
Brandon shook his head and said, "she is tired mom and she will be leaving very early to her grandfather's farm to get her things from there. She asked to have an early night."
His mom understood then said, "it's ok, we will see her when she comes back. So she is the reason why your face is glowing?"
He shook his head but was afraid of facing his mom. So he stood up from the chair and said, "no mom, let me go freshen up."
He left his mom there on her own and she only just shook her head. She did not need to be told that her son seems to be into Faith.
Time flew and it was finally her first day at work. Most people in the department were already waiting to see the new employee.
Some of them were not happy because their friends and relatives did not manage to get the job.
They have even placed a bet on whose friend or relative will be hired for this job. They were very shocked to be told that they have hired someone who was very new in the industry.
Not only was she new in the industry but she is also coming from another country. She is also not related to anyone.
They did not want to believe this though. They felt like she must be having an affair with one of the managers.
She can not be interviewed and be hired on the same day. She must really have a connection with someone who has a higher position in the company.
When they saw her coming in, those that had those thoughts concluded that what they have been thinking about it probably true.
They looked at how young and beautiful she was and assumed that she must be someone's mistress.
She was also dressed in an outfit that most of them only admire from the shop but can not afford to buy it because of other commitments they have to do with their salaries.
She was introduced into the team and was given a desk that she will be working in. She could see that some had faked smiles on their faces.
She also saw those that welcomed her genuinely. She decided that she will not dwell too much on those that were faking smiles.
She is not here to seek to be loved but she is here to work. She wants to make her name known in the industry.
She sat on her desk and looked at the tasks that have been given to her. It was her first day at work but she has already been given lots of tasks.
She tried to work on them and she only realised that it was lunch time because of the noise that was in the department.
One of the ladies came over and said, "we usually go to the nearest restaurant for lunch. Do you care to join us?"
She shook her head and said, "sorry not today, I brought myself a lunch bag from the house."
She smiled and said, "not a problem at all. We will be happy to have you come join us one day."
Faith smiled and said, "one day."
That was the only response she gave her. She then turned back to the work on the task that was before her. When the whole department was out.
She stood up and went to the kitchen area, she heated her food on the microwave and sat on the table then started eating.
She ate as fast as she could because she was given a task that should be submitted first thing in the morning the following day.
She went back to her desk and started working again. Some of her colleagues were not happy when they were told that the new girl decided not to join them.
They felt like she thinks she was better than all of them. This made them to develop an attitude towards her.
When they came back from lunch, some looked at her with that attitude while others did not have a problem.
She did not bother herself in getting to know what the problem was. She continued doing her work.
When it was around four o'clock, she stood up and went to the toilet. She found three ladies in there and walked past them.
She was really pressed and needed to relieve herself. She got into the toilet and when she came out. The three ladies were still there.
They certainly looked like they were ready to start a fight. One of them said, "so which one of the managers are you sleeping with?"
She smiled and said, "excuse me?"
The second woman said, "you heard her loud and clear. Do you know that all the managers we have in the company are either married or engaged? You certainly look very young but you are a disgrace to your parents for sleeping around with married men. You have made yourself so low such that you even sleep with a man just to get a job."
Those words infuriated herself very much. She said to them, "if you guys got the job by sleeping with someone on the higher ups. You shouldn't think that we all do that. Some of us have gotten the job through merits. You shouldn't worry about your boyfriends, I am not here for them. I am only here to work, you should actually be worried about their wives. I am very sure that when they hear that you sleep with their husbands they will not be happy to hear that."
These ladies were very shocked to hear her say this and they could not even respond back to what she has said.
