Chapter 8 My Leg Hurts

  • Tallulah looked at him. “Am I allowed to have questions?”
  • Zayne smiled. “No.”
  • Rolling her eyes, Tallulah took the documents and headed to Stavros' office.
  • Zayne tried to stop her, but he couldn't.
  • Tallulah pushed the door open and walked right in.
  • Stavros, with his tall and slender figure, stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, engrossed in a phone call. Upon hearing a sound, he turned his head to look, his brows immediately furrowing in response.
  • “Let's leave it at that for now,” he said and hung up the phone.
  • “Who gave you permission to come in?” Stavros asked.
  • He gazed at Tallulah, his eyes cold, his tone chilling by several degrees.
  • Tallulah slammed the documents onto the table. “Are you doing this on purpose?”
  • Stavros glanced at the documents, his voice icy as he said, “Isn't this part of your job? What's the matter? Do you not want to do it? Fine. You can quit. There are plenty of people who want this job.”
  • Tallulah was livid. This sc*mbag is definitely doing it on purpose! He's retaliating because I slapped him last night! Therefore, he was quite harsh with me last night, and then today, he's sending me off to the construction site.
  • Stavros' gloomy mood inexplicably lightened a bit when he saw her visibly upset yet unable to articulate her feelings.
  • “Leave, and remember to knock next time you come in.”
  • With that, Stavros withdrew his gaze and continued with his work.
  • Tallulah stared at him, her hands abruptly bracing against the table as she leaned her upper body toward him. In a soft voice, she said, “Fine, but before you come in next time, you'll need my permission.”
  • With that, she took the documents and left immediately.
  • Stavros was rendered speechless. What kind of nonsense is she spouting? Had she not enticed me last night, how could I have possibly touched her?
  • Just like that, his uplifted mood instantly turned gloomy again.
  • Tallulah was responsible for the commercial building project, which was currently under construction. She stepped out of the car and looked at the uneven road surface, which completely unsettled her.
  • As she continued forward, she noticed an elderly woman not too far away, seated on the concrete ground, her face a picture of confusion and helplessness.
  • People passed by her, yet no one approached to inquire, fearful of being implicated.
  • Tallulah took a moment to size up the elderly woman. Her attire was rather sophisticated, even adorned with an emerald bracelet on her wrist. She didn't seem like a scammer.
  • After a moment of thought, she walked over and inquired, “Ma'am, what's wrong?”
  • Brenda Keeble looked at her, her eyes suddenly lighting up. “My dear granddaughter-in-law! You are my granddaughter-in-law! I can't find my way home, Dear. Could you please take me back?”
  • Tallulah froze. Something seemed off about the elderly woman. She appeared to be suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
  • In a rush, she leaned forward and asked, “Ma'am, do you still remember where your home is?”
  • Brenda was suddenly at a loss. “Where is my home? I don't know... Dear, can you help me find it? I've forgotten where my home is.”
  • Tallulah pulled out her phone, intending to call the police.
  • Brenda's eyes lit up instantly when she spotted Tallulah's phone! “Phone! Phone! My phone is here!” she exclaimed.
  • She pulled out a bag tethered around her neck with a string from under her collar. Unveiling its contents, she revealed a phone inside.
  • Inside the bag, there was also a slip of paper. Upon seeing the contact number on it, Tallulah immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
  • “Ma'am, how are you? Can you walk?” Tallulah asked with concern.
  • Immediately, Brenda felt aggrieved. “I can't walk. My leg hurts. Granddaughter-in-law, my leg is in pain. Could you soothe it for me?”
  • Tallulah was at a loss whether to laugh or cry. “Well, I'll take you to the hospital first.”
  • To err on the side of caution, she pulled out her phone and started recording a video. “Ma'am, I didn't hit you, right?” she asked.
  • “Correct. Dear, you didn't bump into me,” Brenda agreed wholeheartedly, even making a heart gesture toward the camera.
