Chapter 5 Change Of Heart

  • What does he take me for? Her heart ached as if it was being torn apart, making it difficult for her to breathe.
  • Stavros' gaze darkened when he saw the tears welling up in her eyes. His expression turned even colder after that. “I have my reasons. Not telling you is also a way of protecting you.”
  • “Ha!” With a cold laugh, Tallulah held back her tears, her voice chilling. “I'm telling you, I won't divorce, so don't even think about it!”
  • She turned around and walked away without hesitation.
  • “You wouldn't want to lose this job, would you?” From behind, the man's cold voice echoed. “You're an orphan, barely managing to find your footing in this city. This job must mean a lot to you.”
  • Tallulah glared at him angrily. “What are you trying to do?”
  • Stavros said, “As for the divorce papers, my previous words still stand.”
  • He was threatening her.
  • Tallulah was so furious that her hands were trembling. If it weren't for the distance, she would have loved to slap him right across his face.
  • “Stavros, you're utterly shameless!” she roared. In such a brief span of time, how could he have changed so drastically? Could it be that he was always such a cold and detached person, and the past year was nothing but an illusion?
  • With a casual motion, Stavros pulled out a tissue. He walked over to her, his actions naturally gentle. He tenderly wiped away the tears at the corner of her eyes.
  • Tallulah abruptly pulled away from his grasp, her almond-shaped eyes filled with defiance. “If you have the guts, fire me!”
  • Divorce? Impossible! Tallulah turned and left, and by the time she exited the office, her emotions had already settled down.
  • Stavros' hand froze mid-air, his handsome face tensing up.
  • He reached out, pressing the intercom on the table. “Notify the HR department that...”
  • As he was speaking, his mind was suddenly filled with images of Tallulah patiently teaching him sign language and how to read.
  • No matter what, he just couldn't continue his sentence.
  • “Mr. Luzzatto, what do you want to do?”
  • From the intercom came the cautious voice of the secretary.
  • “Nothing.”
  • After Stavros ended the call, his expression carried a hint of irritation.
  • When a coworker asked Tallulah what Stavros had said to her, Tallulah simply brushed it off with a smile.
  • She then sat at her workstation, deeply contemplating her next move. If Stavros resorts to forceful measures to compel me to divorce, I'll expose our relationship to the public and cause an uproar, ensuring everyone knows he's my husband. Wouldn't that prevent him from divorcing me?
  • Realizing what she was thinking, Tallulah suddenly froze, followed quickly by a self-deprecating laugh. However, his feelings have changed. The person in his heart is no longer me. If I were to do that, would it still hold any meaning?
  • When it all came down to it, Tallulah just couldn't accept it. How could he just whimsically decide to change his heart? Is it really that unbearable to spend a lifetime with one woman?
  • In the afternoon, Zayne Sutton, the CEO's executive assistant, called out to her, “Tallulah, could you come over here for a moment?”
  • Tallulah rose to her feet and moved over, at which point Zayne said, “These are some pieces of jewelry. You have a good eye. Pick a set out for me, so I can give it to a client.”
  • Tallulah was somewhat taken aback. Why am I being asked to do such a thing? There are so many fashionably dressed girls in the office.
  • Although she was puzzled, she still helped Zayne.
  • With a smile, Zayne said, “Thank you.”
  • Immediately after, he turned and left. Dumbfounded, Tallulah returned to continue her work.
  • In the evening, when she returned home, it was eerily quiet. She stood at the entrance, dazed for a while, and her heart began to ache again. Has Stavros decided not to return?
  • She was seated on the couch, turning on the television. She didn't want the room to be too quiet, as it would make her imagination run wild.
  • “Our report reveals that the third young master of the Luzzatto family, who was missing for a year, has made his first public appearance. Accompanied by a beautiful lady, he attended a charity dinner. What kind of changes will Mr. Stavros' return bring to Yannopolis? Please...”
  • The host was saying something, but Tallulah could no longer discern the words.
  • She stared intently at the girl next to Stavros, her eyes widening in disbelief. The necklace adorning the girl's neck was the very one she had chosen earlier that day.
